Gage Wood earns a spot in the rotation for Philadelphia on opening day
Mark P
2:47
Wood didn't pitch great at Double-A, so such a jump up to the majors is very unlikely.
Jocko Johnson
2:49
The Tigers seem flush with outfielders, What is Parker Meadows future and where does he fit in?
Mark P
2:50
It's fair to wonder if the Tigers are just ready to move on from Meadows after two seasons basically lost to injury.

How do you think Itoh and Taira would do in the big leagues?
Mark P
2:52
I'll be optimistic and say...they'll be fine? The real answer is who knows, given how there has been such a wide range of results in pitchers coming over from NPB.

Raniel Rodriguez will get an extension in St Louis before he plays his first MLB game.  Yes or no?
Mark P
2:53
Decent chance this happens.  It would seem like Rodriguez is on track to debut in 2027 but not on Opening Day, which makes the usual late-spring timing of these types of extensions not a fit
Jake Bauers
2:54
You really think Milwaukee lets me go?
Mark P
2:55
He may have priced himself out of the Brewers' range.  But, since the Crew have some money coming off the books, some extra playoff revenue is coming in, and Bauers has quickly become a hero in Milwaukee....maybe he sticks around?
Jarren Duran
2:57
Hello! Do I have ANY actual trade value? A lot of people don't think so. What do you think the Sox can get for an extremely streaky, 20-20 guy like me?
Mark P
2:58
Between Duran's projected $11.1MM arb salary and his brutal numbers last year, a non-tender might be the likeliest outcome here.  As with Yoshida, a trade at this point would be a pure salary dump on Boston's part.

Pick the most likely one.
A. Hoyer opens the wallet for Skubal.
B. Hoyer opens the safe for Skubal, Peralta, Holmes, Peterson

I get a date with Olivia Dunne
Mark P

Unless you're Paul Skenes, A is the likeliest option of a very unlikely trio of options.

should the Astros consider moving Yordan?
Mark P
3:01
They're not planning to blow things up, so no. Alvarez is still under contract through 2028 and still providing elite offense.
Cleveland
3:02
So after this run ends with us winning the World Series, how do we improve for next season?
Mark P
3:03
Probably with another quiet offseason, then we'll criticize the Guardians all winter for not making many/any moves, and then they'll contend again in 2027.  The cycle rolls on!
Tyler Stephenson
3:03
Do I still have a chance at a multi-year deal? My walk year was pretty underwhelming at the plate for a bat-first catcher.
Mark P
3:05
I'd be very surprised if Stephenson didn't get two years.  I'd be more surprised by a one-year deal than by a three-year pact, in fact.

As always, the catching market is thin.  Stephenson's numbers have been about average in comparison to the league as a whole, but for a catcher, they're quite good.  Plenty of teams could also see him as a higher-upside guy with a change of scenery.
Houston GM Fits
3:06
Who do you think are some of the best GM fits in Houston?
Mark P
3:08
Hard to guess on any specific names, but it may be likelier to be another first-time GM.  A more experienced executive might not want Crane and Jeff Bagwell looking over his shoulder
Kyle
3:09
How did De Paula rank so highly on prospect lists if he's basically unplayable in the outfield? He looks like I did when I was 15
Mark P
3:10
His bat is just that promising, plus he has some stolen-base ability.  The "young Yordan Alvarez" tag has floated around for a while, which is a heck of a comp
Ebenezer_Batflip
3:11
So the padres need a LHH in LF but duran has no trade value???
Mark P
3:12
Duran was the second-worst qualified hitter in baseball in 2026, with a 69 wRC+ over 608 PA.  The Padres could take a flier on him but not at an $11.1MM projected arb price tag.
Luis Campusano
3:12
What holes could the Padres possibly fill by trading me away?
Mark P
3:13
SD has enough needs that a Campusano trade shouldn't be off the table.  But, Salas is still so young and Fermin can't hit, so if Salas needs more seasoning in the minors, Campusano will again be needed behind the plate
3:14
Time to wrap things up.  Thanks as always for all your questions, and next weekend's chat will likely be back in the standard Sunday evening timeslot.
