How kind of MLB to pause the World Series for a day so we can run the Weekend Chat!  We'll open the queue in another minute....
Halos
7:43
How do you see free agency playing out with the transition to the new ownership? Any rumors on possible GMs?
Mark P
7:45
The news on Mozeliak didn't become official until a few days ago, and reports indicates that the Angels were just starting their search.

I wrote this in a recent chat, but it seem even more true now...the Halos probably won't be doing much of anything this offseason.  It'll take them at least a few weeks to hire a GM, and then they have to hire a manager (presumably on input from the new GM).  It's possible the new skipper might not even be in place when the lockout starts on December 1.
7:46
All of this to say, everything major roster-wise could be on hold for the Angels until after the lockout is over, which makes me doubt the team has anything big in store

Who shoulders the blame for the Yankees’ sloppy play over the last few years? The gm, coaching staff, players?
Mark P
7:49
All of the above.  Obviously the players are the ones on the field, but blame must be shared by the front office (for assembling the roster) and on the coaching staff for perhaps not doing enough to get the players prepared.  That said, I'd put the coaches third of the three groups.  For as much heat as Boone gets from fans and the media, for all we know, he and his coaches have stressed fundamentals on a daily basis, yet the mistakes keep happening.  Coaches can only repeat things so many times.

Do the Guardians make sense to land Suzuki?  What would it take to sign?
Mark P
7:50
Suzuki will get, at minimum, a $20MM average annual value and at least three guaranteed years.  (I'd lean towards four.)  This is simply so far beyond Cleveland's usual price range that I doubt they'll be involved on Suzuki to any real extent, even though a strong bat would so badly help their lineup
Mark
7:52
Gunnar Henderson in a deal for Paul Skenes.  Who says no. ?
Mark P
7:53
This would be an incredibly fun and fascinating trade, ha!  I think this is the type of offer that makes both front offices have a serious internal meeting, but all in all, i suspect Pittsburgh says no
Tyler Stephenson
7:54
What type of a deal would it take to land Tyler?  5 years 75 million a strong offer?
Mark P
7:54
Not anywhere near that.  Think 2-3 years at maybe $10MM per year.
Rockies
7:55
Do you see the Rockies as capable of making a free agent splash?
Mark P
7:56
They're capable, sure, in that sense that they have barely any money on the books. But unless they vastly overpay for someone, I'm not sure why a top free agent with options elsewhere would sign with a team that is years away from winning.
Along those same lines, the Rox don't feel the need to spend big when they know they're years away
Hmmm
7:56
Will Jarren Duran and Franklin Arias be packaged to bring a reliable slugger to Fenway?
Mark P
7:57
Arias is basically untouchable in trade talks.  With Arias lined up as Story's replacement, i find it hard to believe that Boston would move him for anyone.

7:58
There won't be a salary cap but more of a higher penalty and more deterrents for big spenders.
Mark P
7:58
I think this will ultimately be the outcome of the next CBA, as the players' union has been so consistently adamant in shutting down all talk of a salary cap
Cleveland
7:59
Jo Adell really a non-tender candidate?
Mark P
8:01
Yep.  A projected $9.6MM salary is pretty rich for the Guardians.  Adell had some timely hits and overall was pretty okay post-trade (107 wRC+ in 204 PA), but that's probably not enough for the Guards to sign off on a near eight-figure expenditure.
My guess is that right now, the Guards are working the phones trying to line up an Adell trade, so his tender decision can be another team's call

Yankees need more offense from their catcher. The A's can't sign a Boras client to a long-term contract. Who says no to this deal: Shea Langeliers for Austin Wells, Elmer Rodriguez, and Hunter Dietz?
Mark P
8:03
The A's will want more than that for a catcher with an All-Star ceiling

Is the Imai contract considered by the Astros to be bad enough to trade for another shorter term bad contract like Profar?
Mark P
8:06
Potentially, but in that particular case, the Astros are likelier to give Imai another look as a starter or see what he can do in an extended bullpen role.  Profar is a complete x-factor at this point.

Any chance Chaim moves a handful of prospects for a an All-Star-level bat or arm? The farm is as deep as it's ever been  with another top 12 pick next June too
Mark P
8:08
Unlikely, at this stage in the Cardinals' rebuild.  While they exceeded expectations this year, I doubt Bloom views them at the point where it's time to start reloading for a real pennant run.

8:09
Michael massey for Teo and alex freeman. Who says no?
Mark P
8:10
Dodgers.  I don't think Massey moves the needle much for them.  If Hernandez is moved, a pitching deal seems more likely.
Dubon
8:11
What kind of deal do I get?
Mark P
8:11
Two guaranteed years, maybe $8.5MM in AAV?
Somewhere in that price range

Is it worth it for the Rangers  to non-tender burger and use that money to sign someone like Lowe?
Mark P
8:13
First off, if you're ever at a restaurant and they serve you a non-tender burger, send it back.

Secondly, I floated the idea of non-tendering Burger as part of my Rangers offseason outlook (cheap plug!) and the idea makes a good deal of sense.  Foscue might be able to replicate most or all of what Burger provides at the plate.

Can the Tigers get enough offense in the offseason to make a run at an improving division?
Mark P
8:16
I believe so.  There's plenty of improvement to be found in the 1B/RF/DH departments, even if that means moving on from at least one of Torkelson or Carpenter.  Here's another team that would benefit greatly from Seiya Suzuki, if ownership was willing to make the investment.
And, the Tigers have at least shown some propensity to spend on bigger contracts, unlike the Guardians

Is it at all in the realm of possibility that the Giants release Adames in the near future? What else can they do to improve?
Mark P
8:18
Five years and $140MM remains on Adames' deal, so a release is completely out of the question.  The Giants should be adding at least one starting outfielder, at least two starting pitchers, and at least two reliable relievers to their roster this winter.
