Sorry for being tardy. I'll wait a few minutes for the room to fill and then we'll get this party started.
Brian
3:16
Sam dyson is struggling. Something to worry about?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Well, he wasn't exactly stellar last year - even after going to SFG - so I'd say he's worthy of some additional scrutiny. But I can't say I've examined this in any detail.
3:17
Generally, the pen and back of the rotation are two areas the Giants just couldn't afford to upgrade. They are going to have to hope for the best and look out for opportunities to improve as the season goes on (or at the end of camp).
There is still the possibility of cutting Dyson loose and not paying most of his salary. Not sure if that's a consideration for them though.
Trevor Cahill
3:18
When will the Red Sox finally just sign me to a cheap one-year deal?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
They probably would. He probably wants a chance to compete for a MLB job.
3:19
Cahill was having a good season before he fell apart in KC.
Giants
3:19
Giants are high in the rankings for runs scored, HRs, but majority of this improved output has come from players not projected to make the roster (see Jensen). Should we be worried?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Okay so that's the kind of thing where you're looking for spring stats to be more meaningful than they are. On the team level, they are not worth really paying attention to at all.
3:20
For an individual, depending upon what they are working on, etc, they can -- emphasis on can -- have some meaning.

Predict some March madness for the end of this offseason
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
Haven't watched a game all year. But I am a UVA grad so I will claim all rights of victorious fanhood if the 'Hoos can finally break through in the tourney.
Mike
3:21
Why haven't the cardinals signed Greg holland?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
They really may just not think he's all that good at this point. Or the price is still unrealistically high.
3:22
Holland really could be just hoping for an injury to some extent. Man, if he really turned down 3/50-ish from the Rockies though ...
Scherzer's Blue Eye
3:22
Will you rant about the stupid pace of play rule implemented in MiLB? If it gets called up to the majors....
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
I am pretty sure I would be vehemently opposed to starting extra innings with a guy on second.
Mr. Freeze
3:23
How do you see the Cubs finding any playing time for Ben Zobrist?
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
I don't think there's much evidence that the majority of the guys playing the same positions that he does are, say, 4+ WAR everyday type players. So, mixing and matching for varying considerations makes plenty of sense to me.
3:25
Not saying it's not possible, but to this point, the bulk of the evidence is that the Almora/Schwarbs/Happ/Baez/even Russell group is pretty handily utilized in a ~75% apiece type of time share with Zobrist.
3:26
Heyward, too, certainly. There's plenty of flexibility to increase or decrease time as appropriate as the season progresses.
dave
3:27
where will grimm land since he has been cancelled in chicago?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
Truly anyone's guess. Some GM or top talent evaluator somewhere probably likes him a lot and has a job opening he could compete for.
Bryzzohtani :(
3:28
Arbitration contracts are not guaranteed. What happens when the two sides settle before arbitration, are those contracts guaranteed?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
Only if they agree to that as a part of the deal. Some are, many aren't.
As you might expect, that's one provision teams can use to get concessions on dollars.
Padres
3:30
Do The Pads move Headley, Renfroe, Asuaje or Spangenberg. Gotta be moves coming right??
Jeffrey Todd
3:31
It's also certainly possible that somebody is exposed to waiver or shipped out for a rather minimal return. Every year we see guys who are still interesting or useful in some regards just end up without a real place.
The Marlins will surely be looking to absorb those kinds of players.
Palmeiro
3:32
Spring is almost over and still no team has even looked at me. Should I have showed up for the Detroit open tryout?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
I am shocked, shocked I say.
3:33
Gotta think the Skeeters would have some interest though.
TXmadman
3:34
Baltimore, Seattle or Oakland? All would be first time for me. You pick my away game this year.
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
Steve and I were just talking about meeting at Camden for a game or two. You have to go there.
Jeff Bridich
3:35
How long am I stuck with Ian Desmond?  I can't believe I might have to keep him and send McMahon down to AAA.
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
I'm not sure how those two really impact one another. The only reason McMahon is on the bubble is that the decided to re-sign CarGo for some reason. I guess they just believe in him, but I can't figure why they wouldn't want a quality righty bat to pair with McMahon.
Walter
3:37
Kluber-Carrasco-Bauer-Clevinger -Cobb why not? Especially the unreliable health of Salazar?
Jeffrey Todd
3:37
Because they have like 3-4 other quality rotation options and have bigger needs elsewhere if they had money to burn.
Adam Goldberg
3:37
What's going on at 1b for the Mets? Is there anything they can do to improve the position? Dom Smith, Adrian Gonzalez and Wilmer Flores don't cut it
