Howdy all. Sorry for the late start but I had to get something up on the site. I'll let the room fill up and we'll get moving ...

Watching the masters or day baseball today?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
I find it hard to care much at all for other sports while writing about baseball all day.

Should we concerned about Donaldson's arm?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
It is just so hard to have an opinion on injuries unless you have inside info. In that case, they say there's nothing and he's still hitting, so I guess maybe it's just something he'll have to try to work through and take a DL stint at some point if it's not improving.

Can the Mets contend with the Nationals for the division or is it all Nationals?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
As I have mentioned on the site, I think the health outcomes from the spring -- healthy rotation, Conforto return -- put the Mets back firmly into range of the Nats in terms of expectations.
3:20
I still think the Nats look better on paper, but it looks closer now than it did at the end of the 2017 season.
Also, if I may go back on what I said re Donaldson, Eaton's knee has looked pretty balky. And they are still waiting for Murphy.

What'd you think of the Blackmon extension?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
I think I share the general consensus that it was a solid move from the player's perspective. For the team? I mean, they know him, they like him, and they are going to be saying goodbye to Parra and CarGo after the year, so locking into one veteran lefty OFer makes sense.

Are MLBTR Live Chats proper law school classroom activities? Definitely asking for a friend and not myself
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
Absolutely. Just don't do what I did once as a 2L and pound your desk in frustration due to something happening on the computer. (Bad beat in online poker, in my case.)

As Ohtani continues to impress do think there will be an even bigger influx of Japanese players taking a shot at the mlb?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
What he has done to date is impressive just in that it confirms some of the raw talent. Still needs to build up a bigger sample to declare anything about his future.
Regardless, I don't see it having much of an impact. The door is already open in the right circumstances.

So is Harper a realistic free agent option for us, or should we go after Machado and trade for Chris Archer instead?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
After continually kicking the expectations can down the road, I see the Braves have succeeded in setting fans' sights high.
3:26
I'm not sure I really see Harper or Machado as clear targets for ATL. But I guess it's possible. I'm not sure why a hypothetical effort for Archer would make more sense with one or another of those position players, though. Both will be massively expensive.

With Nick Castellanos be a trade candidate? Position switch help or hurt value?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
He'll be available, yeah. I think it helps to try him out in the OF just b/c there wasnt much indication he was really going to cut it at third. Gotta find out whether he can stick elsewhere.

Can you explain the contract situation with Trayce Thompson. Does he have minor league options? If so why did the Dodgers DFA him
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
I know the Yankees suggested they had optioned him, but everything I've ever seen says he doesn't have an option year left, including the out of options post that we ran (which we compile from good sources, not just our own best guesses).

What was your take on the Twins being upset with the bunt single in that recent 7-0 game?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
It's ludicrous for many reasons. It would honestly take too long to list them all.
Jimmy
3:29
Do you watch much college baseball?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
No but I'd like to start taking my kids to some games at Virginia Tech and UVA, since both are within range of where I live now.

Miss me yet?
Jeffrey Todd

Always. You're the best.
Dave Roberts

Should I be concerned about Jansen?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
Of course. When velo drops suddenly, it is always concerning, even if there is zero evidence of injury.

Small sample size but see any surprise contenders so far?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
No, I just see a small sample.
Mr. Freeze
3:32
Can Preston Tucker do anything to further delay Acuna if he keeps playing like this?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
No, I just see a small sample.
3:33
I mean who knows, he's a pretty young guy that hasn't had a full MLB shot. But he'll only stand in the way of Acuna if the org wants someone to stand in the way of Acuna.
Charlie Blackmon
3:33
The Rockies will regret those player options right/
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
Eh it doesn't change the deal much. They committed to five years and $94MM. He'll be 35 and 36 for those last two seasons, so it doesn't convey nearly as much value to him as many recent FA opt outs have.

What's the future of Arenado and lemahieu in Colorado?
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
They have to at least explore a long-term deal with Arenado. I think DJLM is as good as gone. Just not a whole lot of reason to lock into him when they have younger, cheaper options on the rise.
