Oh, Gabe...
3:37
Kapler getting the business from Phillies fans!
Jeffrey Todd
3:37
We'll see how all that will turn out -- plenty of time yet -- but that was just so Philly that you have to kind of respect it.
Anthony
3:38
Is Yunel Escobar's career done because of his personality? Still seems useful-ish as a player
Jeffrey Todd
3:40
Could wonder the same about Brandon Phillips. It's just hard to know, though, b/c perception of reputation will vary by front office. I'm sure if there was any kind of sense that they'd provide a firm upgrade over an existing option, they would have received a shot. Doesn't help that so many teams really aren't competing and probably don't want to have any headaches, though.

Prior to today’s news, how has Eaton’s knee looked “balky”? I haven’t watched him, but sounds like he’s been raking and scoring.
Jeffrey Todd
3:41
He has been, but he looks awkward doing anything other than hitting and running in a straight line. Watch the replay of the play before he exited today and you'll cringe a little.
Stephen

Is it just me or are the Astros way better than they were last year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:42
On paper, they are clearly better than they were expected to be at the outset of 2017. Whether that means they'll actually significantly outperform ... that'll be tough to do.

Hey, Jeff.  Do you? Think that if I continue to to ignore my spelling, grammar, grammar, and player link errorrs that I could be a “writer” for MLBTR like like you?  Suck it.
Jeffrey Todd
3:43
Aw man that's a sick burn.
3:44
But when have I ever ignored an error? It happens when you write without an editor (or even if you do have one), but I always correct and acknowledge them.
Zac
3:45
what will DJ Lemahieu market look like if the offseason... does he sign for more than 4 years>
Jeffrey Todd
3:45
No way. Four is the max I can imagine and that'd only be with a huge season.

Jonah Keri wrote an article today saying that the Blue Jays would be better off with Donaldson being the everyday DH, Solarte the everyday 3B, and Morales simply being a bat coming off the bench.  Thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd
3:47
That seems plausible temporarily, sure. Though given JD's reputation as a grinder, if not also his pending free agency, I don't doubt he's lobbying against it.

At what point in time does the Yankees just let Jacoby walk? Cant stay healthy and hasnt been very productive. Seems like one of the worst contacts in baseball
Jeffrey Todd
3:50
There's just no reason to right now. They need the depth, and he has been a decent contributor when healthy.

smart move by friedman to claim a guy, then designate him later? shrewd way to beef up the minor leagues???
Jeffrey Todd
3:51
But they just lost another guy on waivers and exposed yet another guy to waivers. Marginal 40-man guys come and go.
Ben
3:51
Donaldson isnt getting 6 years like Blackmon, but would be say no to say a 4 year 120 Mil?
Jeffrey Todd
3:53
Blackmon got five new years since the deal includes 2018. I think Donaldson could get the same length even though he's a year old. (Ignoring his injury for purposes of this discussion). He's a superstar. But four years might be the place to set the over/under in a hypothetical FA deal after the season.

Finish this sentence: On August 1st, Josh Donaldson will be a member of the .............
Jeffrey Todd
3:54
Blue Jays, who will still be in contention.
Tank
3:54
I heard a rumor the other day that Alex Anthopolous might go after Josh Donaldson (given that he brought him to Toronto).  Do you see the Braves as a logical landing spot for him?
Jeffrey Todd
3:54
So far in this chat, just from what I've noticed and published, we have the Braves in on Harper, Machado, Archer, and Donaldson. Those rumors are just what they are: rumors.
3:55
I know MLBTR has "rumors" in its name, but we don't utilize pure rumor. We look for reporting on actual information. There's a difference between someone just making something up because they think it makes sense and someone reporting that, say, a team has actually held internal discussions about trying to acquire a certain player.
3:56
(I don't know what you're referring to on AA/JD, so don't take this as throwing shade at something. Just going off on that point since there's so much stuff that just gets made up.)
Ra dickey
3:57
Am i done?
Jeffrey Todd
3:57
Have to assume he'd have signed if he wanted to keep going.
Ben
3:58
is Preston Tucker the real deal? Seems like all he needed was a full chance. Assuming he is, what does that mean for the Braves outfield mix when Acuna comes to play?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
I addressed this above, but can't help but do so again. What has he played in, five games this year? Look back at some other early-season heroes. Jeremy Hazelbaker, say. It's way too soon to reach any conclusions.

Your opinion has been heard.

Are you surprised I haven't traded Keon Broxton?  Do you think he will be key to the Pacific Coast League Championship?
Jeffrey Todd
4:01
Could still be a summer trade asset.
Zac
4:02
Even though 2 starts is a small sample, What are the chances David Price opts out?
Jeffrey Todd
4:03
Still not good. Unless he just puts in an all-out Cy-caliber campaign, I think there will be too many questions of age/injury to do it. Minor point, perhaps, but he'd also get hung with a QO.
Kim
4:04
What do you think about the new Pace of play rules so far?
Jeffrey Todd
4:05
I'm just annoyed at reading tweets about how many mound visits a team has used/has left. It's like when replay was first introduced and everyone seemingly found it useful to write stories about each review.
Ben
4:06
So are you saying Jeffrey that if i say AA is interested in acquiring Vlad JR because he originally signed him that doesn't make it likely?
