Tim Dierkes

Hi everyone, Tim Dierkes here for another Monday chat.  All questions are welcome, including fantasy baseball.
Dave Roberts

Walker bueheler a fixture in the rotation yet?
Tim Dierkes
1:48
Yep, certainly looks that way.  I imagine they'll try to grab him extra rest here and there along the way.

Are you worried about the Twins
Tim Dierkes
1:50
Well, they're still alive as the last possible playoff team.  They're not the favorite for that slot, but they're not the Tigers either.  At least a few of Sano, Rosario, and LoMo seem like they'll start hitting, and Lance Lynn isn't this bad.

If the Braves stay above 500 who do they target
Tim Dierkes
1:52
Machado would be an interesting addition.  Certainly there could be room for any kind of pitching addition.  Not sure if they'd look long-term, like a Michael Fulmer, or short-term like Tyson Ross.
Nick Markakis
1:53
Off to a great start - trade value going up?
Tim Dierkes
1:53
The Braves have a legit shot at the playoffs, and Markakis isn't a great trade chip anyway, so I think they hold onto him.
Acuna
1:53
The hype is real, right?
Tim Dierkes
1:54
Five games in he's pretty much shown off every tool, hasn't he?  Obviously there has to be some return to Earth, but he's an incredible boost to the team.

Move Reed to closer for Minnesota?
Tim Dierkes
1:54
I would've started him in that role.
Anthony
1:54
Where do you stand on the whole "fun police" thing?
Tim Dierkes
1:55
I'm generally fine with a bit of celebrating.  I imagine MLB seems pretty staid to non-fans, and could use some livening up.

Five teams have 10 or fewer wins.  Which is the first to begin the fire sale?
Tim Dierkes
1:57
There are seven who have absolutely no chance of making the playoffs: Tigers, Orioles, Royals, White Sox, Padres, Marlins, Reds.  The Rangers and Rays are very close to joining that group.  I can see the Marlins and White Sox being on the front end of fire sales, simply because those teams do have veterans to trade and never expected to compete.

What starters may be on the block at the trade deadline that might interest the Yankees?
Tim Dierkes
1:59
I imagine some teams will make a play for Dylan Bundy, but he'd likely be inaccessible to the Yankees and will probably stay put anyway.  The more likely options: Tyson Ross, Michael Fulmer, Ian Kennedy, Jose Urena, Chris Archer, Cole Hamels, Danny Duffy, Wei-Yin Chen, Homer Bailey.

Will Verlander be on a regular season innings limit because of his age?
Tim Dierkes
2:00
I wouldn't expect a hard and fast innings limit.  Plus, he's 35 and durable.  And since I'm turning 36 next week, I cannot consider him to be old.  That said, since the Astros could be the first team to lock up a playoff spot, they could back off him in September to save bullets for the playoffs.

How high is this kids ceiling?
Tim Dierkes
2:01
I'm no prospect expert, but maybe a #3 starter?
Old dogs new tricks

When do the white sox call up kopech and whose spot  does he take?
Tim Dierkes
2:04
I feel like he's shown enough to get the call in May, probably with fairly tight innings and pitch limits.  He could bump Shields, or Santiago/Miguel Gonzalez pretty easily.
Bryce
2:04
Is Billy Hamilton going to hit above the Mendoza?
Tim Dierkes
2:05
Billy has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he's a no-power, .300 OBP who can wreak havoc on the basepaths when he does get on.  Fourth outfielder status is not far away.
Jeff Todd's an idiot
2:05
Jeff Todd said the other day in a chat that the Phillies are better than the Braves. ATL is 6-3 vs. PHI and has taken 2 out of 3 in all 3 series they've played so far. Your thoughts?
Tim Dierkes
2:06
Well, I hardly agree that Jeff Todd's an idiot.  In terms of which team I like more, it's tough, they're in similar positions.  I think I will vote for the Braves though.
Brody
2:06
Hey Tim, if you can start a franchise with any player other than Trout or Harper who are you choosing?
Tim Dierkes
2:07
Acuna would be a great choice.  Has to be a very young position player who is MLB-ready and has MVP potential.
Nice.
2:07
Thoughts on Christian Villanueva?
Tim Dierkes
2:09
The Padres have unearthed a gem on the free talent market.  I think he's a regular for them for years.
Yeen Peen the Mariner
2:09
Mitch Haniger is the next big thing! If he stays healthy is he a 40/120 guy?
Tim Dierkes
2:10
I'd peg him as more of a 35 HR guy.  In his career he has 31 HR in 157 games and I think in April here he's shown there's a bit more than that.
Nice.
2:10
Will there be much of a market for Moustakes at the deadline?
Tim Dierkes
2:11
I don't think so.  Even the DBacks, a speculative 3B suitor, should get Lamb back well before the trade deadline and wouldn't get a big upgrade with Moose.
Braves Homer
2:12
Chris Archer to braves makes to much sense not happened
Tim Dierkes
2:12
For the Rays' part, it would be nice if Archer put up some decent results first.  He's been BABIP'd to death this year.
Chris
2:12
Anything on relief targets with the Astros?
