Thanks for joining! Ask some questions and we'll get going shortly ...

How long is Wieters out?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
We don't know, but it's a very bad sign. Typically even a bad strain is going to be r&r. This suggests tendon involvement or some other complication. (I'm no expert, just spitballing.)
SOROKA
3:14
Oh no not my Soroka
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
This seems precautionary at this point.
3:15
But he's an exciting young pitcher, so feel free to freak out.
Eric
3:15
Should the Twins be thinking about Swihart? What might he cost?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
It really comes down to whether there's a team that particularly likes Swihart's bat and thinks he can catch at least passably in the near-term.
3:16
Frankly, it is a bit strange that the Red Sox aren't giving him any time at all behind the dish if he's to be marketed in any way. Maybe they really aren't concerned so much with his value as preserving depth as long as possible.
Don't expect he'll end up really costing anything ... maybe at this point he's most likely to end up moving after a DFA.

Are the Braves for real this season or do you think they will slide
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
I think they are a real contender. Also don't think they are the favorite in the division.

Your take on how the Card’s deal for Ozuna is playing/will play out? Good or bad deal?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Well, it's obviously not good. But it's just hard to judge any player on ~40 games and I'm not willing to do so here. In concept, at the time, it made sense and that hasn't changed.

Is there no chance the Cubs trade for Machado or no chance in hell?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Wouldn't rule it out.
Donaldson
3:19
Is there a realistic trade for Donaldson out there where the Jays get a win-now piece back?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
I don't think I understand the concept here. He is the win-now piece, no?
3:20
I mean, I know there are some theoretical worlds where you get a young player with some additional control and don't necessarily punt the current season entirely, but that's awfully complicated to put together.

In your opinion should the Dodgers try to make a major move or  just let it ride and maybe miss the playoffs but stay under the tax threshold.
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
I am not sure it comes down to an either/or. It is conceivable they give up greater prospect value in order to get a less costly addition, for example. That's especially plausible to imagine in the case of pursuing a quality young reliever.
Theo
3:23
Is Russell and Montgomery enough to get Machado?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
Well, the Orioles will be fielding offers from a lot of other orgs, so I don't know. But I do like the idea of a reverse-Feldman scenario.

Why does Bruce Bochy insist on keeping Blanco and Gorkys on the roster when Slater appears to be a clear upgrade on both of them?
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
It's not Bochy's call. But it is a bit confusing in some regards. Slater has been at Triple-A for a while, so it's not like he hasn't had time there and they haven't gotten a full look at him. You could argue it's about preserving depth ... but maybe it's about their attachment to those veterans. Or maybe they just really don't buy into Slater?
3:27
The old "we want to give him regular time" argument doesn't make sense here, I should make clear. There's plenty of ABs on the MLB roster and Slater has been stalled at Triple-A for a few years.
3:28
Cards are putting Adam Wainwright on the 60-day DL, btw.
Going to update the site real quick brb ...

Vizzy has been quite shakey this year (even though he went 1-2-3 yesterday,) would Wisler and Touki or a lower-level prospect net Herrera or Britton (assuming he comes back healthy.)
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
He has been shaky. The bullpen is one area I see some cause for regression in Atlanta. That includes Carle, who curiously has like a 15% swinging strike rate but just 6 K/9.
As for trades, they really don't need to push the envelope, certainly not now, but I think that' they'll sniff around. I think the Braves will likely be willing to do some things with guys who they'll have trouble carrying on the 40-man roster next year, too, as the Yankees have done in recent years.
3:31
That said, Wisler isn't going to be much of a trade chip. Otherwise, I can't guess at this point whether Touki is enough for one of those guys -- don't really know how the market will look just yet.
John
3:31
Will Tim Tebow be called up to the Mets this season? I see he's been hitting fairly well as of late
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
But ... 40+% K rate and .400+ BABIP
That said, I'm not going to hate on the guy for somehow figuring out how to be a passable Double-A hitter.
But there's zero indication he ought to play in the majors on merit.
Jeff Luhnow
3:33
Have pitchers figured out the Astros hitters?
Jeffrey Todd
3:33
I looked the other day and IIRC the Astros have been wildly unlucky in terms of BaseRuns compared to their actual (still impressive) record.
3:34
Yeah they have a -5 pythagorean -3 BaseRuns ...
Not exactly what you asked, I know, but I wouldn't be concerned with some variations here and there, right? Pitching will probably come back to earth a bit, and the bats will probably come to life some.
