Hey everyone, thanks for joining. I'll allow a few minutes for everyone to gather and then we'll get going.
3:05
In retrospect, those two sentences are awfully odd back to back, yet also weirdly work. Anyway, off we go ...
Mr. Mariner
3:06
Is there anything to the rumors of bringing Byrd back to the Pacific Northwest? What would we have to give up to get him?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
I mean ... I read that post.
Um.
They had interest two years ago.
3:07
Tigers really don't have much reason to part with a guy with that much cheap control remaining. And Boyd has been solid this year but is hardly an overwhelming pitcher. I don't really get it, honestly.
Would be very Jerry though, perhaps.

3:07
Will the BoSoxs deal Devers
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Don't see it. People have been speculatin'

3:07
What would it take for the Phillies to get Adrian Beltre?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
He's a special case. Let's suppose the Rangers decide they would like to deal him -- that they don't want to try to get him back for 2019. I bet they'd sit down with him and say "where would you be okay being dealt to?" before they go out and start taking offers.
3:09
Health and salary will tamp down his real trade value ... otherwise, situation is so hard to gauge b/c he's such a respected guy there.

If Robles/Soto aren't included, is there any package the Nationals could put together for Realmuto that would be fair to both teams?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Then you have to boost the volume. If the Marlins really like Kieboom -- who is a legit piece -- maybe he's enough of a headliner in a package that includes other good assets. Really hard to know specifics b/c it's going to be dependent upon internal views of some of these players.
(Oh also ... re above... Beltre has full no-trade rights. So, yeah.)
Jerry Dipoto
3:11
Should I pursue another outfielder and move Cano to 1st upon his return?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Sure. Still leaves you lacking a lefty slugger at first in the postseason, unless maybe they get a guy that can play in both spots, which would be nice.
Still a lot of ground to get to the playoffs, of course. That's the priority.
Dayton Moore
3:12
What prospects from the Braves do you think I could get for Mike Moustakas?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
It'll be less than Herrera returned, and Braves weren't willing to pony up for him.
Bill
3:14
Hey Jeff what do you think the Yankees do about starting pitching? Do they try to add one or two arms? Also who are they willing to let go?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
Volume will depend upon how health situation looks when the deadline approaches. Have to imagine they will at least look hard at several high-end, controllable arms. Otherwise, Happ/Hamels/Ross are shaping up to be the best rental guys -- solid additions to a staff, sure, but probably not exclamation point type arms.

3:16
What SP should the Nationals try and target as a deadline piece?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
With some future payroll capacity to work with, maybe Nats can put some of that to work to help get something done. Imaginable the Yankees could consider that, too.
3:18
Others, too. Phillies, say. Nothing in particular I'm thinking of here, just ... there are a lot of creative possibilities with some major heavyweights jockeying for position and lots of potential sell-side teams.

Where do you predict Brad Hand is August 1st?

Angels seems to be willing to make trades but aren’t going to move big names. Who makes sense for them given that they aren’t going to give up top prospects?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
If that's the case, maybe they wait a bit and hope a buyer's market develops?
3:20
They were reportedly in on Herrera, but that shouldn't be ready to suggest they were willing to be aggressive to get him. Makes sense they held talks, at least, since KC was marketing him.
John
3:20
Will the Nationals trade a MLB level outfielder this season? Michael A Taylor?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
The rest of the OF is left-handed and not really capable of playing center. Probably wont know enough about Robles before the deadline to feel comfortable moving Taylor, is my guess.

You said you play catcher a few chats ago.  Is that true or were you just joking?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
Havent suited up in the old man league in two summers, but yeah, I did through high school and then for about 6 years more recently in DC/Denver leagues.

Padres' 2020 third baseman is...?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Doubt I could give you an answer with more than like a 5% likelihood.

3:22
The Reds signed Suarez to a long-term extension, yet drafted another 3b with their 1st pick. Amd with Senzel gettimg close, is mow the time for them to cash in and get 4 or 5 pieces in return? Assumingly pitcher.
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Draft picks have more or less zero bearing on MLB decisions. Opposite also true.
3:23
Wacha is going on the DL for the Cards, as expected. Going to write something for the site real quick. In the meantime ...
