Hi everyone. Just because the trade deadline is in the past doesn't mean there's nothing to talk about!
Drop some questions and we'll get moving in a bit.

do you the o's trade more pieces come no waiver deadline
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Ehh it remains possible that Cashner, Cobb, Trumbo could be moved but seems awfully unlikely. Valencia might be likeliest.
3:08
Rangers just announced Chris Tillman signing.
AngelsintheTroutfield
3:08
Most likely post deadline trade Donaldson?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Harvey is perhaps the likeliest, though who knows with the Reds.
There are some complications w JD, as I wrote about this am.

Do you think the Twins need to move on from Buxton? Maybe try to trade him this offseason for a similar type of player who was highly regarded as a prospect but hasn't put it together yet at the majors?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
I just don't know that I see whythat'd be the case, really. He's their guy, they know him well. They are in a pretty good spot to take the risk on him. And what will they get back that will be more appealing?
Twins loyalist
3:11
Prospect wise, how did the Twins make out at the deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
People that know better than I seem to like the return. Built out the system with some young, high-ish upside types
Scott
3:12
What can you tell me about Kevin Gausman? Can he make anywhere near a Arietta like jump? Maybe a 3.30 ERA type guy?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
There aren't many true-talent 3.30 ERA starters in baseball, so that seems wildly optimistic. I guess maybe it's tempting to draw the analogy with Arrieta, since Gausman has always been seen as having premium stuff as well, but there's no particular reason to think they're on equal footing otherwise.
Mets

If Jeff Todd was the GM what would you do to be a contender next year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Demand that I be given a huge budget increase and spend it on all the best free agents.
Otherwise feels unlikely.  Crazier things have happened, I guess, but there are so many areas needing improvement.

Matt Harvey to the Phillies on a waiver deal?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
Never know how things might look as the month goes on, but if the Phillies wanted him on their roster, he'd probably already be there.
Mets
3:16
Based on the return for Archer, would you trade Degrom expecting even more than Tampa received and would you trade him?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Archer return doesn't have much bearing on one for deGrom, who'd have been in his own class. But that ship has sailed, at least until the winter.
Aidan
3:17
Do you think the Phillies will win the NL East?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
Slight favorite. Still open to all 3 teams.
Just a random person
3:17
How much does cueto's injury hurt the giants this year and next?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Huge salary stays on the books and you lose a guy who you might at least hope to be something like a 3 WAR player at this stage of his career. Yeah, that hurts.
3:19
How to value it? If they didn't have Cueto, they'd be out his ~3 WAR (making that up, obviously) but also not owe him $21MM. Huge opportunity cost.

3:20
the dodgers biggest need was a solid setup reliever. They didn't get one. do you see them making a play for one in the next week or so?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
August relief market doesn't look great. Most interesting possibility might be Addison Reed, if he looks better upon his return. Or maybe someone will consider Fiers et al as a relief arm.
Greg Holland is available!
It's me again
3:22
Look it's me the .500 Giants, help.
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
Dodgers to the left of me, Rockies to the right, here I am ... Stuck in the middle with you.
Braves fan
3:24
Did the Braves take on the entirety of Gausman's AND O'Day's contracts.
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
Far as I saw reported, yes. Good amount of coin. Explains the light return in prospects.
matt
3:24
why didn't more white sox pieces get moved? Specifically Shields and Abreu
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Total lack of demand for Shields and minimal demand for Abreu, who they don't want seem to want to trade anyway.
Ranger Fan
3:25
So I love my Rangers, win or lose, but what do you make of the trades they executed?  Only one in their new top 30 prospects.  I guess the stocked up some farm teams, but do you feel like they did enough trading or did they swing and miss with the other players on the roster?
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
Got an interesting arm for Kela. Otherwise ... they just didn't have much of value to deal away. Not surprising they didn't get much back.
C Kershaw
3:26
Why does it feel like our current front office never "goes for it" at the trade deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
The Dodgers? The team that landed Darvish last year and Machado this year?
nenehoff
3:27
Is it time for the Mariners to panic?
