Jeffrey Todd
3:01
Hey everyone. Gather round for talk of the old ball game.
3:03
This is like gathering my kids to the dinner table. Come on everyone, head on in to the chat room.
IF YOU AREN'T HERE IN 2 MINUTES WE WILL START WITHOUT YOU.
3:07
Okay sorry, my actual kids were just doing bad things and I had to yell at them. I am back!
Gio
3:08
Any chance you see the Yanks moving Sanchez in the offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
I mean, everyone knows about the issues in his game. It's not really a new thing. It should also be at least somewhat correctable. Not sure there's a lot of benefit in trying to offload him when it'd just mean opening a big hole behind the dish. Not to say it isn't possible to imagine something somehow coming together if they have a plan for a new backstop, but it's not really something I'd anticipate happening.

3:09
What will the Yankees do with Sonny Gray after the season?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Who knows ... if they want to upgrade the spot, I assume there'd be  a taker. But most clubs would be more than happy to have him at the back of the rotation, despite the troubles.
Aaron
3:11
If Machado really prefers to play SS on his new team, what do you think the Braves would do with Swanson if they could swing a deal with Machado? Package Swanson for an ace starter?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
I don't think Swanson is good enough to headline a deal for an ace starter. If he was, you would probably not be asking about pushing him out the door to make way for an obscenely expensive free agent!
3:12
I guess I'd expect the Braves to be in on Machado to an extent, but I'd be pretty surprised if they end up with him.
Loren
3:12
Could Austin Hedges be moved by the Padres? What would he bring back?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Not sure why they would do that. He combos well with Mejia, esp since there are doubts as to Mejia's future behind the dish.

What do you make of the Mets' reported interest in Mark Shapiro?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
They have reported interest in like a dozen people. Meanwhile reports say it's all preliminary and they haven't started a real search. So ... it's all just in the brainstorming phase, best I can tell.
Smith
3:15
How significant a role do the Cardinals give Wainwright given their competitive situation and his expiring contract?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
Whatever they think will help the team win games, period.
Julio Urias
3:15
what is going to happen to me?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Come up and relieve down the stretch, then rest up over the winter and hopefully enter 2019 camp at full health. Reports seem generally promising given the seriousness of the injury.
Chris
3:17
Can you see the White Sox adding two big free agents this offseason? Machado, Harper, Arenado?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
Arenado isn't a FA this winter.
Regardless ... no, I don't see both Harper and Machado landing in the same spot. You are talking about enormous investments.
3:18
I do think the White Sox will be very active in FA, perhaps in the manner the Phillies were this past winter. But they also haven't spent historically to the levels the Phils have. I could imagine them landing one of those guys, but obviously there'll also be competition and perhaps some better value to be found elsewhere.
Frederick
3:18
In order for Oakland to win the division next year they will have to make a blockbuster trade for number one starter This off-season. Do you agree?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
No, I don't think that's strictly necessary. But they will need to improve the rotation mix quite a bit.
Can't just hope you hit on a bunch of cheap veterans again.
Albert
3:20
With Gardner fading as he usually does, should the yanks start McCutchen in LF when Judge returns?
Jeffrey Todd

What would it take to get Sonny Gray in Anaheim?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
Acquisition price shouldn't be too high b/c he'll be fairly expensive in arb. Maybe 8 mil or so. But it really depends what the Yankees want to do. If they decide to keep him, there's no way the Angels will offer enough to force their hand.
3:22
(Just saying ... it wouldn't be worth it to the Angels to offer the kinds of prospects that would override a decision by the Yankees to go ahead and keep Gray on the staff, in all likelihood. Not that they couldn't in theory offer enough to get him.)
Chris
3:22
Could you see the Tigers/Avila trying to offload Zim or Miggy in the off season to save some money?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
I'm honestly having a hard time imagining Avila picking up the phone and trying to show Miggy right now. I mean ... he was hitting, yeah, but he's been out all year.
3:24
As for Zimm'nn, it's not entirely different. He showed some life at times, and his full no-trade rights are going away, but still -- they probably still want the innings and won't want to just pay his contract to pitch for another team. It's pretty hard to see it happening.
Russ
3:24
So Ohtani will be a DH next year coming off TJS ? What do you think ?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
I think so, yeah. What's interesting is the conflict it poses with Pujols needing to spend time there. They wouldn't put ShoOh in the outfield, would they???
JP
3:25
So why again did Ohtani come back to pitch,
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
Because he rested sufficiently to be cleared and you have to let him loose at some point. By testing it now, rather than just waiting -- perhaps, with no further healing likely to take place -- they got the results at a point at which it was still possible to limit the repercussions of TJ.
3:27
Basically: if his UCL shredded in March of 2019, or whatever, then you'd be messing with his hitting availability for all of 2019 and his pitching availability for some of 2020.
Matt
3:28
What would the Angels need in return to trade Mike Trout?
