It's chattin' time.
3:02
You know what to do. Leave reasonable, contemplative questions and I will respond with vicious takes.
3:03
We'll get moving in ~3 mins
Quintana
3:08
Do I have any trade value?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Absolutely. Not seeing a particular reason for the Cubs to move him, though.
rocky road

who playing 2ndB in colorado next yr
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
I think it is likely to be Hampson and McMahon with some possibility of other internal/depth type guys in the mix. They don't have a lot to spend and have other needs.
The presence of Rodgers is also a factor, b/c they can hope he forces his way up.
Bartolo Colon
3:10
What will Juan Soto do next year. Was this year just beginners luck?
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Beginner's luck might explain a total newb hucking a dart and landing a bullseye, but not squaring up big league pitchers and walking more than anyone but Trout & Votto for almost a full season. He's legit.

With the Dbacks resigning Escobar, is this the end of Goldy? Lamb to first? I think Goldy’s trade value is the highest now, compared to mid season. Just sucks to see him go
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
I think the Escobar signing is a move they probably feel they can justify regardless of whether they trade Goldy. It's good value for sure.
3:13
BTW I also think they ought to at least chat with Goldy about a new deal. You just never know when a guy will take a lot less than market value b/c he likes where he's at.
Also should be totally open to dealing him.
Zac

If Ian Kinsler gets his ring, do you see him going back to Detroit to fill the 2B spot?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
I don't know if this is a situation where he'd say "I got my ring, I'm done." If not, I think he'll still be in demand with contenders and would tend to think that's more likely.
3:15
Rebuilding teams really shouldn't tie up too many roster spots with old dudes. It's good to have veterans and fan favs and all that, but that also takes away a place you can give a guy a shot that you find interesting.
3:16
Rule 5, waiver claim, minor-league signee, etc. Suppose they sign Kinsler and bypass next year's version of Joey Wendle, for instance.

Did the Reds get it right?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
As always, I have little to offer on managerial hiring decisions. But that one seems well-conceived -- respected baseball guy who seems to have a modern take and who comes with local roots.

Is Kimbrel still looking at 100 million plus this offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Don't expect that, no. If he matched his unreal 2017 season? Then sure. But he was having trouble staying in the zone all year long, so setting a new record at 31 (IIRC) is a bit of a reach.

What will it take to sign Nate Eovaldi after the postseason he has had?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Still being debated in the front office of MLBTR Park. I'm going to ask you all ...

Charlie Montoya is the next Manager of the Blue Jays.  What can we expect?  Good Hire?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
No idea, but the hiring of Rays guys is probably at least in part about teams wanting to get a download of their approach and shortcut some of those ways of extracting value from a roster.

Any chance the Cubs find takers on any combination of Heyward, Chatwood, or Yu (while also giving prospects to the teams taking them to give full contract) and then use the money saved to try to get Harper AND Machado to come to Wrigley?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
On the first part of the question, no, it doesn't seem particularly likely to be honest.
On the latter, hell no.

Bryce Harper comes to Houston to form a juggernaut. Tried to win lotto to make this happen but will have to rely on Crane.
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
The 'Stros have a big move in them if they want, no doubt, but that doesn't seem like the one to make. Going after JT Realmuto, adding a big-time starter, getting a big bat (Goldy? Cruz?) to plug into the 1B/DH realm.
3:24
Or all of the above. Have to wonder if they'd also rather take Springer out of CF if they add an OF. Just doesn't feel like Harper is the right target, though if they love him, who knows.
Joe Kerr
3:25
Do you think the velocity drop for Kershaw will hurt the next deal he signs?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Yes, as will his repeat back issues and increasingly mortal peripherals. He's not KERSHAW anymore. Still will get a big contract.
Just a random guy
3:26
Would Goldschmidt get a lot of interest? Saw a bleacher report article that suggested that he wouldnt
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
One of the best hitters in baseball for the last five years. Still just 31. Cheap one-year commitment. Market has no comparable alternatives.
3:27
Yeah nobody will want that guy ...
I have not read that, but ... off the top of my head, he's the top rental player on the possible trade market.

What will it take for the Athletics to take that next step to being a serious contender?
