My first chat of the free agent season! How exciting.
Ask away, I'll start answering in a few ...

what do the marlins get for Realmuto? Victor Robles?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
They could have had Robles already and wanted more. I think they will get it. JTR is a monster trade piece. Two cheap years of the youthful best catcher in baseball. All-around player who'd be a big upgrade for several contenders.
3:11
Obviously not as loud a player as many, but you have to realize the backdrop here. There are so few true #1 catchers, let alone mid-prime, let alone available.
(This is also why Grandal's market is not going to collapse.)

Is it within reason to think Kimbrel could get 5/80ish?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
Yes I'm just answering this b/c of the handle, ha.
I think that's sort of the upward bound - something like the Chapman deal. But he's older and had a shaky season. He'd have set the record w a repeat of 2017.

Better odds? The Giants signing Harper or trading Bumgarner.
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Guess I'd say those are fairly close, both low likelihood. Really don't see them as the likeliest on Bryce, but then again you certainly can't rule it out. Dealing MadBum at a relative low point seems unlikely, but can never tell if another team presses. (We also don't know the front office hire or offseason approach.)

Who do you think Braves target this offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
I think it's a really, really good question in the sense  that ... we can guess fits, but what specific player do they really press to get? Some teams may not have a guy. They might let the market develop and seek value from their list of possibilities. You can imagine the Braves doing that, to a large extent, but I do also wonder if they really have their eye on someone.
3:18
Most likely, I guess, that'd be  a pitcher. Trade or FA? I don't know. Corbin is still young and could be a clear target, but same holds for other teams. In trade, there are not a lot of guys who are premium talents and premium performers who figure to be available. Robbie Ray and Marcus Stroman seem like good buy-low targets, but is that really what they'll be looking for? Can they find a way to structure a Greinke deal? He might be the best non-FA pitcher available.

How many free agents does the average team sign per off-season? 1-3?  More?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
It depends year to year but typically something like 90 to 120 players sign MLB deals, if I remember correctly.
Obviously quite a few more sign minor-league pacts.
So you're looking at an average of 3-4 per team.
Believe that number has also trended down a bit, worth noting.
Nationals
3:20
Josh Harrison to the Nats?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
I have been thinking about Nats 2B options. There are so, so many out there. Including some who could be picked up in a MLB-for-MLB type of trade (Roark, Taylor among the possibilities to be moved). It is really tough to guess. Difo and Kendrick factor in somewhat.
3:22
Gordon, Castro, Dozier, Lowrie, Kinsler ... so many
Just a random guy

Was eduardo Escobar on the top 50 list?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
For sure
3:23
That list is coming tomorrow. It's nearly done. Final tweaks.

I thought 2 was enough and it allowed me to start the chat on time. But if you all want to chill for like 15 minutes I can go write some more.

Is it feasible to think the Yankees could trade Stanton to LAD and sign Harper?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Not really, no
Machado
3:25
Am I hurting my value by wanting to play SS? Will the team that signs me have me play 3B?
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
We still don't know how this'll all play out in the market. He may bend on that preference. And after seeing his evidently improved performance in the 2nd half, teams may be more open to using him at short, at least for a few years.
I think I answered somewhat differently than this like a month ago, but that was before I was really aware of the changing views on the glove. And I also see more space for him to fit at short around the game.

Is Voit a good 1st/2nd piece in a deal for Goldschmidt?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
Negative.

Would a package of Rhys Hoskins, Sixto Sanchez, Adam Haseley and Mickey Moniak be enough to pry Blake Snell and Kiermaier away from the Rays?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
Doubt it.

3:28
How realistic is signing Harper, Kimbrel, and Andrew Miller?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
Nah
Reds fan...
3:28
Would a homer bailey for zack greinke trade make sense? Diamondbacks get rid of 2 years of contract and cincy is saying they are going to add payroll...

Come on now!
