We'll use this opportunity to round up the winter meetings action and discuss what might come next. I have not had time, really, to think about that, so we'll be going off the cuff!
3:06
Leave some questions and we'll starter going momentarily.

What veteran do you see the Marlins signing? SP, RP, OF?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
The thing about that kind of approach is that it truly could be anyone. I'm sure they have guys they like more or less for a variety of reasons, but they aren't going to drive the market for anyone. (Except perhaps Kikuchi.)

What do the Rays do at first base now?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Seems they could still land Encarnacion, though he'd be more of a DH, and there are a variety of trade/FA options still out there. Seems clear they want to improve there since they pursued Goldy and have now moved Bauers. Choi and some other internal guys are still possibilities, but I think they'll be looking for a short-term upgrade. Alonso, Smoak, Murphy, Adams ... lots of options still.

Any guesses on who the Cubs will sign
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Well that's the million dollar question, isn't it?
No, literally, one million -- no more. Budget can't handle a bigger contract.
3:11
But seriously ... they are either going to go into some kind of "budget signing/explore trades" mode or they are doing that while going after under-the-radar bigger moves.

Will the Reds give up meaningful prospects to land two-years of control of Marcus Stroman? Should they?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
I think he's sort of a perfect target for them. Metrics still liked him quite a bit last year. Obv Blue Jays still do as well, but the market won't be what it would be if Stroman didn't have some question marks. And TOR has to be prioritizing the ability to add farm talent. Reds should be willing to take some risk if they are going to do the ramp up they say they are.

I CANNOT BE STOPPED. Tradageddon is upon us!!!!! Who's next? EE? Mitch?
Jeffrey Todd
3:14
Would be fun if he kept dealing these bad contracts for other bad contracts while fiddling with money/prospect capital in those deals, around and around and around.
3:15
Still lots of big money contracts out there that could be moved in trades ...https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/11/2018-19-contract-swap-candidate...

Do you think Realmuto ends up being traded this offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
99%+ yes

Why so little news on Manny vis a vis Harper? Is Manny to the Yanks a fait accompli, or will the ChiSox jump in if they miss out on Bryce?
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
I wouldn't read much into it. They are unique assets and their agents will take their time in building the market.
Definitely still an open situation with no clear favorites.

Wtf are the Rays doing, man?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Bauers has yet to put up a .800 OPS in a professional season. The Rays know him well. I suspect they never were as high on him as prospect rankings.
3:20
I linked to Chaim Bloom discussing Yandy in the post on the deal ... seems they are really high on him. Whether or not that's justifiable, I can't say, but obviously they went into this with eyes wide open. Assume moving Bauers also creates space for another addition.

Would the Phillies have to give up Sixto to get Kluber? Should they?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
I don't know specifically, b/c it could be the Indians don't really want high-end young pitching to headline the deal, but generally ... heck yeah they must/should give up their best prospects. Kluber is part of a very small class of aces who have steadily delivered a large volume of innings over the past several seasons. He's not young but not terribly old, not cheap but hardly top-of-the-market expensive. He should require a haul.

Will anyone take Heyward off the Cubs' hands so they can land Harper?
Jeffrey Todd
3:24
Have we been following the same offseason rumors?
3:25
No indication of that sort of thing being in the works.

Your take on the Rangers moves so far?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
I am honestly having a hard time fully understanding what they are trying to accomplish. I mean I get adding established starters who are affordable and perhaps even have some upside. But 3/30 for Lynn was on the high side. They haven't really trimmed payroll much. Would-be core group really hasn't come together.
3:29
I guess they are just content to keep the fans coming who will anyway while they build for the new park. But as far as a path to creating excitement in advance of the stadium opening ... doesn't seem to have advanced much. But we shall see.

Why did LA spend big on Kelly but not on me?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
Their needs aren't precisely the same now. And perhaps they were worried about Morrow breaking down, which is just what happened.

What would a deal for Cervelli cost the dodgers? I’ve seen Ross Striplings name being thrown around. Would that be a one for one or would dodgers have to send a prospect over
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
Really depends what the Bucs are looking to do. Have to think they'd have interest in Stripling, who has been an effective swingman and had a really nice K/BB ratio last year -- even if he did trail off. Not sure the Dodgers would do that, let alone that they'd need to sweeten the pot. But hard to say exactly how these teams view a guy like Stripling who has had some high highs but also was shaky down the stretch.

Should I still be hoping for Harper in ATL next year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
You can hope for whatever you like, but ... I'm not seeing it.

3:36
Have I misplayed my hand and asked for too much on Gray?
Jeffrey Todd
3:37
Doubt it. Most all of the teams that made sense before still do now. I think the delay is more about Yanks waiting to see what will make the most sense for their situation (or getting blown away by an offer) than anything else.
3:39
Man, gotta love twitter ... send a link to our overnight Joe Kelly story and get lectured about how we're "late" or have missed that the deal is done. Guess a 12-hour old story is now old news and people don't click links.
