I'm no Cardinals apologist, but I can see why they have proceeded the way they have thus far. Fowler is a good bounceback candidate, they still have a bunch of fairly compelling young players on the roster, they landed Miller. I can certainly imagine ways they could or still could do more, but it's a pretty complete roster.

McCutchen will be the highest paid free agent by the Phillies?
Jeffrey Todd
3:38
Nah

Does everyone at MLBTR hate my giants? Can i make us a contender this year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:40
How's that? I think we rightly questioned the decision to push for contention last year. But there's no hatred for the organization and I am fascinated to see what Zaidi does there.
Braves/Gray? Looking like a no:

#Braves could make a trade for a starter, but it's not going to be Gray. They've not been in recent trade discussions about him.

#Yankees reportedly getting closer to trade of Sonny Gray:

Who is more entertaining: Brodie Van Swaggin vs Rockstar GM AJ Preller (even though he's been unusually inactive)
Jeffrey Todd
3:42
Easily the BroVan. Preller may have been labeled the "rockstar GM" and has undoubtedly pursued many wild scenarios, but he doesn't publicly talk trash and offer bold proclamations that will make him either a legend or goat.
It's gonna be fun to see how things shake out in Queens.

Are the A's a darkhorse candidate for Pollock?
Jeffrey Todd
3:43
I think so, yeah, but it really depends whether they a) have a way of dipping in for more 2019 salary or b) can get really creative in structuring a deal.

Are the Diamondbacks listening offers for Archie Bradly and Jake Lamb
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
I have to imagine that the AZ FO remains open to just about anything, but it doesn't seem they embarked with a specific plan to deal anyone. I'm a bit surprised they weren't more aggressive on Greinke, especially. Bradley, perhaps, though there's reason to think they can get value out of him at the deadline or beyond (whether on the field or via trade). Likewise, Ray. And I think holding onto Lamb and hoping he bounces back makes sense.
Billy Beane
3:46
How about bringing back Pomeranz? Using him in shorter stints and/or with an Opener to save his arm some?
Jeffrey Todd
3:47
Very sensible target. They still need to get multiple arms but are obviously content to wait things out.

Any chance a Jeffrey Todd bobble head becoming available to buy? Or any TR swag?
Jeffrey Todd
3:48
The bobblehead would clearly be a rousing success, but I'd have to license it and I just won't do it. Ha.
Should we sell some kind of swag?

If you had to predict the final 2019 standings of the NL East right now how would you predict they finish...?
Jeffrey Todd

Nats/Braves/Phillies/Mets/Marlins
But there's not a lot of separation between those top 4 teams.
Really could go any way.

Giants gonna go into the season with Slater, Shaw, and Duggar as their starting outfield?
Jeffrey Todd
3:52
I doubt you'll see 3 guys tabbed as clear starters. They will add some veterans, perhaps young-ish guys who Zaidi thinks could thrive if given a shot, and have plans of mixing and matching.
Okay one more market research question, since at least some people are interested in MLBTR branded merchandise.
I would totally buy a MLBTR ...

Mitch Haniger... he is the real deal right?

I think so, yeah. Good piece to hang on to.

Would love to hear your take on Kyler Murray as well, baseball or football
Jeffrey Todd
3:56
Not sure I have a "take," per se. It made sense, still, for him to enter the draft and sign the significant contract with the A's. That's guaranteed money up front. But it also makes sense for him to reconsider when the football opportunity changed. I'm assuming he loves football best, or at least as much as he does baseball. He'd be in the minors for at least 3 seasons, probably. Instead he's likely to be playing in the NFL right away.
3:57
All of which is to say ... I get why he took each step. I personally would prefer to keep my brain intact and stick with the hardball, but that's me. (And I did play football and rugby as a younger man, so not like I took my own old-guy advice. Also, goes without saying, I was never anywhere near his level of ability, so what do I know.)

3:58
If you were an Angel fan, would you be as disappointed as me with the moves this winter?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
To an extent, yeah, I would. I mean ... they sort of took their shots already with Upton and even Andrelton. And Cozart last year. Some big contracts committed. But picking around the edges of this roster feels like a missed opportunity when you have Mike frickin' Trout.
4:00
From a fan's perspective, I'd rather the Halos boost their payroll right now and go for it, even if it might mean some lean years down the line.

So of its only 25m/yr to sign machado, what is going on that nobody wants him?
Jeffrey Todd
4:00
I refuse to believe that is the case. I will deny it even if he signs for that amount.

AA talks about being 70% satisfied with a deal.  Why did he say that and what does it even mean?
