Howdy all. You may proceed with your questions and I shall begin answering them best I can in a few minutes.

Nomar Mazara breaking out this year! I think the Rangers will be pretty darn good in 2020 if we can find some pitching. Cole Ragans and Hans Crouse?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
I feel like it's way too soon to tell what that roster will look like in 2020. Even on the position player side, just loads of questions. And how many of the current pitchers will even still be in the organization?

Ozzie Albies the next Altuve
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
I believe I noted previously in one of these here chats that there were some similarities. If anything, Albies has a far more interesting profile at this stage of his career. Of course, nobody really foresaw Altuve fully blossoming as he did and that's still a very lofty standard, even for a player with such promise as Albies.

It is time to DFA Gattis, trade Marisnick for a free lunch and get Kyle Tucker to the majors ASAP, no?
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
Tucker isn't exactly destroying Triple-A. No reason not to be patient here, I'd say.

Are there any middle relievers the Nats could target this early in the season, would anyone useful potentially be available already?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
Any player who looks like they'll have deadline value will cost a premium this time of year. So, you're mostly looking at playing the waiver wire game or picking up guys on minor-league deals.
Buck Showalter
3:06
how hot is my seat???
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Guess I'd be surprised if they can Buck mid-season. But I would expect a change over the winter.

Albies is looking like an MVP candidate
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Folks, I like Albies. But he does carry a .319 OBP.
Zac
3:07
Who are the teams in the AL and NL that are farthest away from contention
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
It's probably Royals/Tigers/Orioles and Marlins.
Obviously the Reds aren't looking so hot, but I can imagine more near-term paths to contention there than the others.
3:09
I'm throwing the O's in b/c I think some kind of concerted rebuild is increasingly inevitable.

What will Dodgers do with all those injuries? Trade 4 inf, pitching or hold.  Thx
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Too soon to say, honestly.

Rockies are clearly in crisis mode wrt Desmond and their 1B situation. Any suggestions? Who's available out there who can at least hit at league average?
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
Matt Holliday? Feels unlikely, though, right? I mean, it's a problem largely of their own making. Strange situation. But the deadline ought to offer plenty of avenues to improve.
Scherzer's Blue Eye

Soto to AA. This just in, he's good.
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
I'm bummed b/c I was looking forward to seeing him at the end of the month when the P-Nats come to Salem. Oh well.
3:12
And yes, his output has been ridiculous.  Those kinds of strides increase the Nats' options in the immediate future.
Billy Barty

Best trade of the offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
In terms of early results, hard to argue with the Stros landing Gerrit Cole.

Phillies and Braves the 2 NL wild card teams?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
Shaping up to be a very competitive WC race.
3:14
Sorry need a sec ... time out!
3:16
Apologies ... I'm back

Is the 3,000 hit feat grant you an automatic entry into the HOF? Asking for the game's most underrated player: Nick Markakis
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
I sort of LOL'ingly addressed this on Twitter today. First off, whether or not it's a golden ticket, I don't know. I was criticized yesterday for saying Raffy Palmeiro (3k hits and 500 HR) would have been in but for the roid issue. So what do I know.
3:18
As for Markakis, no, just no. He's not getting to 3,000 hits. I know his output is way up right now, but I will be pretty surprised if he really carries that through a full season at 34 years of age. He has never ht like this. Looking forward, the notion that he'll remain an everyday player -- and one that can get enough hits to make this plausible -- through 40 and beyond is just unrealistic.
3:19
I shall eat my words if he somehow does it, but it just isn't a hypothetical scenario even worth considering.
Joey Bats
3:20
Chances I finish the season as Braves 3B?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
I can imagine a lot of scenarios where he would not. It's still in range of 50/50 for me but it's obviously not super promising that he isn't showing power early on.
Matt Harvey
3:21
If the Reds do indeed fix what flaw they think they see and I'm useful for a couple months, what could I possibly bring back at the deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
3:22
I don't know that it's about a flaw, per se. He is now the same guy he was because of an erosion of physical tools due to injuries. Now, that's not to say there isn't anything still there. Maybe they can help him map a way to being useful. But I doubt it's just a mechanical tweak away.
3:23
A hypothetical return will be complicated by his dreadful recent history, but otherwise dependent entirely on what he does in Cincinnati.

Reds fans just want to see Nick Senzel play but instead trade for Matt Harvey.. what message are they sending?
