Connor Byrne

Welcome to my first chat in a few months. We'll get going shortly.
Phil

How do you guys find stuff to talk about :-)
Connor Byrne
6:12
It's hard these days. We mostly have to come up with original content, which I hope readers have enjoyed.

Any chance of trades before we return?
Connor Byrne
6:13
No time soon. There's a freeze on transactions, though maybe we'll see some deals if that's lifted between spring training 2.0 and a resumption of the season.
6:14
a start of the season, I should say

I feel like all we’ve been getting is bad news this past week. Do you think any good news (like maybe an announcement on the start of the season) is on the horizon?
Connor Byrne
6:15
I expect the owners and players to reach some sort of compromise eventually, but whether they'll play, we'll see. It'll depend on health/safety, and nobody knows how that will play out.
Domingo German
6:15
If there’s a season do I pitch this year ?
Connor Byrne
6:17
If memory serves, German's set to sit 63 games this year, so he could return late in the year if there is one. No idea whether the Yankees will deem him worthy of a playoff roster spot (if they make it), though

Are we going to see organizations all release large amounts of minor leaguers?
Connor Byrne
6:19
Most or all, it seems. It's not out of the norm for teams to make these moves; it just usually doesn't take this long for it to happen.

Who has more value in trade to shed salary, Chatwood or Quintana? Who do you keep? And where could you see either going if traded?
Connor Byrne
6:19
It's easily Quintana, who's still a pretty solid starter. I think he's on an $11MM salary, which is reasonable.

Reds benefit the most from a shortened season and added DH?
Connor Byrne
6:21
Not sure about "most" off the top of my head, but  they'd be in a good spot: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/05/the-senzel-factor-2020-dh-would...

Who looks worse?  Players or Owners?
Connor Byrne
6:21
The owners

Does JTR get more or less than 110 million if he reaches the open market?
Connor Byrne
6:22
I'm going under, especially with less money likely to be thrown around in next winter's FA class
Clayton Kershaw
6:23
Is this my year for world series ring?  I KNOW it is
Connor Byrne
6:23
I'll be happy if it's anyone's year at this point.

6:24
Mookie re-sign with dodgers? They gave up a lot
Connor Byrne
6:25
Betts has said he wants to test free agency, and I still expect that to happen, but it's hard to believe he'll do as well as he would have under normal circumstances. The Dodgers figure to push very hard to re-sign him no matter what, but if there's no season, they should be all the more motivated considering what they gave up.
Chris
6:25
When a player finds success in new organization (ex: Muncy or Justin Turner), who should get more credit: the organization that found him or the player for making necessary changes to their game? Seems like the organization always gets all the credit
Connor Byrne
6:26
Boring answer: Both. The player has to be open to making the adjustments.

Will this years World Series winner be looked at as legit?  (Of course more legit than the Astros WS)
Connor Byrne
6:27
I think it should be. Everyone would be playing under the same rules.
Rolen on the river...
6:27
To Cooperstown?
Connor Byrne
6:27
Scott Rolen should be a Hall of Famer

What are the ramifications from a PR standpoint if the NBA, NHL, NFL and NCAA find a way to come back but MLB doesn't, regardless of whose "fault" it is?
Connor Byrne
6:28
It would look awful for the owners and players, which is why I think they'll reach a compromise. But whether the coronavirus will allow a season to happen, nobody knows.
Chris
6:29
Does Addison Russell play in the majors ever again? Definitely talented enough to be a backup somewhere, but it would be a PR nightmare for whoever signed him.
Connor Byrne
6:29
I think so. He's a reasonably successful player who's only 26.
I wouldn't sign him, but someone probably will.
Tim

Have fans forgotten about the Astros sign stealing scandal?
Connor Byrne
6:30
No, but it'll be nice for them if there are no fans in the stands (on the road, that is)
Crime Dog

I wish Fred McGriff was in the HOF. He instilled fear in opposing pitchers and criminals alike
Connor Byrne
6:32
He has my full endorsement

Does Rizzo & Lester play this season with their past cancer history?
