Welcome to the last Sunday chat of 2019!  Submit your questions now or else wait for a whole year to do it again!
Phil
9:11
Do you see the Phillies making any kind of significant pitching moves
Mark P
9:12
I feel like they have to, since they still seem very questionable to me beyond Wheeler and Nola.  Trade is probably their best bet at this point, unless they ink one of the lesser-light free agent SPs remaining
Nick
9:12
How do you expect Mets to finish off this offseason?
Mark P
9:13
Mets have been connected to a ton of rumors and possibilities, but they haven't yet done too much.  Seems like GM BVW has at least one big trade in him
Twins fan
9:13
how bout jon gray for Eddie Rosario and a B prospect
Mark P
9:13
The Rockies would want way more than that for Jon Gray
matt
9:13
Who’s better: Flaherty or Buehler?
Mark P
9:13
I'd say Buehler, but Flaherty is also an excellent talent
Ray
9:14
Will the Dodgers relent and finally include Lux to get Lindor?
Mark P
9:15
Moving Lux creates the problem of what the Dodgers would then do with Seager.  I guess move him to second base, or perhaps him to third base, Turner to 1B, and Muncy to 2B?

Seems like L.A. is intent on keeping Lux no matter what, even if acquiring Lindor makes all the sense in the world for them.  Maybe the Dodgers could figure out a three-team deal and flip Seager elsewhere to make it all happen

If the giants don’t get Castellanos do they have backup plans for the outfield
Mark P
9:16
Probably nothing too major in terms of signings, and some recent reports have even cast doubt on just how hard San Fran is pursuing Castellanos

Are the Red Sox not getting any reasonable offers for Price?
Mark P
9:18
I would assume not, or else he'd be in another uniform right now.  Boston is presumably trying to both get some kind of decent return back and still have another team eat a big chunk of Price's contract --- not a bad strategy to take, given the number of pitching-needy teams who could be desperate.

If teams are adamant about not giving up a lot of money AND prospects for Price, the tenor of the negotiations will shift.  I'd assume Boston then goes into more or less salary dump mode
9:19
Given on how desperate the Sox seems to be to carve out payroll space

I saw where the Reds are a team to watch for Akiyama. Does their interest with him have any significance to their interest in Lindor and using Senzel as a trade chip?
Mark P
9:20
It's possible.  Now, Akiyama is something of a wild card as he enters MLB for the first time, so the Reds could be planning to add Akiyama and then keep Senzel for CF depth while also moving him around the outfield.

But, if Cincy is indeed keen on Akiyama as an everyday option, then Senzel becomes a big trade chip

What could possibly be keeping me or the Braves from making a deal. Why so stingy on the 4th year?
Mark P
9:21
The Braves apparently don't have much money left to spend.  And, like many teams, could be wary about guaranteeing big money to Donaldson's age-37 season (notwithstanding how good as JD has been in his career)
Jordan
9:22
Are the Indians blowing it up or what?
Mark P
9:23
They're trying to unload as much salary as possible while getting back as much MLB-ready talent as possible.  It's a fine line to walk, and you can definitely argue that ownership should be more willing to spend to keep a contender together, but this strategy still seems preferable to a selloff
John
9:24
Do you think Kelenic and Rodriguez will be impact players?
Mark P
9:25
Both are very highly considered by the minor league evaluation sites, so it looks like the Mariners have a couple of winners
William
9:25
Yanks still looking for a lefty bat?
Mark P
9:26
Apparently so, though their lineup depth affords them the luxury of not having to look too hard.  Only a good fit is necessary
Noah
9:27
With the reports coming out saying the Sox couldn't match the guarantee given to Travis Shaw, why did they give almost $10MM to inferior players in Peraza and Perez?
Mark P
9:28
That $10MM filled two holes (SP and utilityman), whereas signing Shaw would've just addressed first base and sort of utility, though Peraza plays more positions.  Looks like the Sox were trying to be as efficient as possible with what money they had

9:29
What do you see as a more realistic option (Braves) going from here if they don’t go to 4 years on Donaldson. Wait till mid season to see how it turns out with Riley/Camargo at 3rd and add a LF? Or go after a big name trade candidate like Bryant or Nolan A ?
Mark P
9:30
If Donaldson goes elsewhere, I wonder if the Braves wouldn't give a harder look at Ozuna or Castellanos
I think they need a more proven bat than what Riley/Camargo could bring in a best-case scenario

Aren't teams waiting to see how Andujar does in spring training before a trade with the Yankees would take place ?
Mark P
9:32
This would make a lot of sense.  Andujar is mentioned in trade rumors all the time, though many seem to forget that his value is awfully low after missing almost a full season
who's your Padre
9:32
Is there any sort of market for Wil Myers?
Mark P
9:32
Not unless SD takes on another bad contract in return, or else eats a lot of money
Alan
9:33
If you were BVW, would you attempt to trade Cespedes, given the new contract, or see what he gives you in hopes he has a healthy year?
Mark P
9:34
Cespedes has a no-trade clause, so that could outweigh anything the Mets do.  But if I'm the team, I'm not counting on Cespedes to give me anything in 2020 after all of the injuries, so if he's open to a trade, I'd dump him to any interested party
Jimmy
9:34
What would it take for the Cardinals to get Joc Pederson? Carlos Martinez has one year left on his contract with two option years. Would he be enough given that the Dodgers are looking for relief
Mark P
9:34
The Cards have said they're looking for everyday outfielders, not another platoon guy like Pederson.  Some STL writers have cited Pederson as a specific example of the player the Cardinals *don't* want to acquire

If the Brewers are looking to trade Josh Hader, which team makes more sense: Dodgers or Yankees? And what would that trade look like?
