Do you think Boston has the financial flexibility to make a run at Betts in the offseason and if so what is the likelihood at such a pursuit?
Connor Byrne
6:31
They have the finances to do just about anything. It comes down to how much owner John Henry wants to spend. I expect them to at least kick the tires on Betts, but I'll be surprised if he doesn't stay a Dodger
Dr Fauci
6:32
Will I see fans in stadiums this season?
Connor Byrne
6:32
Definitely not everywhere, but maybe in some states. It seems more and more teams are experimenting with piped-in crowd noise for the time being.

Any insight into what the trade process might look like with COVID restrictions in place? For example, Blue Jays players face penalties for violating quarantine but what happens if a Diamondbacks or Marlins player gets traded to Toronto, etc? Has been there much clarity on how trades might work logistically this year?
Connor Byrne
6:33
Not that I've seen. It's going to be a weird deadline.

Do you think that the Phillies will outbid everyone for JTR?
Connor Byrne
6:35
I still think so, but I'm a lot less confident than before. Latest:  https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/07/jt-realmuto-rumors-extension-ph...

With the universal DH this year, do you see NL pitchers batting ever again?
Connor Byrne
6:36
Even if pitchers hitting does return in 2021, I think the next CBA will implement the universal DH

Any chance we see Pache, Waters or both this year? Or does the acquisition of Puig make that unrealistic?

How many in-season opt outs do you think might occur? Wheeler might be 1-2 starts and done.
Connor Byrne
6:38
I think it's inevitable, but there's no point in speculating on an amount
Rays Rotation
6:39
Best rotation in baseball right now? If not who’s better?
Connor Byrne
6:39
It's hard to top the Nationals', even though the Rays do indeed have an excellent staff. Hopefully, they'll get healthy seasons from Glasnow and Snell.

who will get expansion teams?
Connor Byrne
Those are two candidates, but there's a real effort underway to get a team in Nashville: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/07/dombrowski-la-russa-stewart-joi...

For years, NL fans have heard AL fans add caveats to the in-season successes of NL pitchers because the AL is the tougher league. Does that change with the universal DH?
Connor Byrne
6:42
Not necessarily. NL teams didn't expect to use DHs this year, so AL fans could easily just say, "Our DHs are better."

Over/under wins for San Diego 32.5.
Connor Byrne
6:43
I'll say 30-30, but it's an interesting question. Time for a poll...
Padres wins

Over 32.5 (29.7% | 49 votes)

Under 32.5 (70.3% | 116 votes)

With the DH in both leagues, is the bunt largely dead?
Connor Byrne
6:45
I'm not a bunting fan, so I hope so

Any word on the Opt-In discussion?  I'm not a fan of this idea, letting players who opt out come back for the post season, as an example.   If they want to take the year off, please by all means, but don't let them decide weeks before the playoffs that they want back on the field.

33-27 is a winning percentage of .550, I don't think SD can reach that even in 60 games.
Connor Byrne
6:47
it's a tall order, and I don't think they'll get there this year, but I think there's finally some light at the end of the tunnel for their long-suffering fans (just stop signing guys like Hosmer and Myers for big money)

Do you see anybody breaking Rickeys record for stolen bases? Like ever?
Connor Byrne

No way

How does the draft work next year?
Connor Byrne
6:50
There's no answer to this. We'll see if they have to shut down the season or something, which would obviously have a major effect on it.
Dennis
6:51
Does Peter Lambert have a chance of making the Rockies rotation or is he a bust?
Connor Byrne
6:52
Not a bust. He's a 23-year-old who was a top 100 prospect not long ago, so too soon to give up on him.

Are there more people in the chat now that the season is near?
Connor Byrne
6:53
Compared to recent weeks, I think so. Next Wednesday, the eve of the reg. season, should be a lot busier.
