Hey everyone, welcome to my first MLBTR chat. Bear with me while I adjust to this ...
reds
5:54
Should the Reds trade their pending frre agents?
Connor Byrne
5:55
I believe so. The Reds have expressed a desire to buy, but the way they've played lately, that would be difficult to justify. Guys like Puig and Roark would have value in trades. Puig may be a QO candidate, so I guess they could keep him, but I'd at least explore a deal there.

5:56
Will the Yankees get a SP, a reliever, or both?
Connor Byrne
5:56
I'd lean SP there, especially since Paxton hasn't been all that great since he got back from injury. The bullpen could get even stronger with Betances and maybe even Severino factoring in soon.

5:57
You think the braves get two new SP at the deadline?
Connor Byrne
5:57
Two's a lot to ask. I'll be surprised if they don't get at least one, though.

Is this going to be a very uneventful trade deadline? It feels that way with so many teams still “in the hunt” so to speak.
Connor Byrne
6:00
I wouldn't say "uneventful," but the league's lacking a ton of clear sellers at the moment. That could change over the next week, though. Teams like the Reds and Mets, for instance, may decide to finally throw in the towel.

Where does zack greinke end up?
Connor Byrne
6:01
I'm going to guess he'll stick with the Diamondbacks. The contract and no-trade clause are such complicating factors.
Cashman
6:01
Is my cell phone working?
Connor Byrne
6:01
Yankees GM Brian Cashman hasn't made it any secret he's looking for pitching. There just haven't been deals to come by yet.
Rick

Castellanos to the Cubs rumor, any legs to it and why would they want a negative defender?
Connor Byrne
6:02
Chris McCosky of the Detroit News, who reported it yesterday, indicated the rumor has legs. I don't love the fit because of his defense, however. I'd rather see Castellanos somewhere he could DH. That said, at least he'd help the Cubs' cause vs. LHPs.

What return do you think the Royals with get with the veterans they are trying to trade now?
Connor Byrne
6:04
Not a lot unless they decide to trade Merrifield, but GM Dayton Moore has said it would take something "crazy" for that to happen. Their vets on expiring/short-term deals just aren't that appealing.
LoU
6:05
Who do you Think the Yankees get?
Connor Byrne
6:07
i'm going to guess Stroman. He doesn't seem as if he'd wilt in the face of the NY pressure. Not everyone can pitch there, as we saw with Sonny Gray.
Bobby Higginson
6:07
Can Shane Greene net a back end Top 100 type or is that a little bold?
Connor Byrne
6:08
Not crazy. Greene's relatively inexpensive now, but he still has another year of control. He has been lucky this year to post the ERA he has put up, but as covered the other day, he's still been quite good: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/07/how-good-is-shane-greene.html
*and he still has another...
Jason
6:09
With Brewers losing their ace for about 6 weeks what do you see them doing at the deadline?
Connor Byrne
6:09
They needed a starter before Woodruff went down, and now it's only more obvious. I think they'll get one.
Matt Klentak
6:10
Am I calling every GM’s cellphone  for starting pitching?
Connor Byrne
6:11
It wouldn't hurt, but I don't know how "all in" the Phillies are in light of the comments Andy MacPhail made a week or two ago. They're probably playing just to get into a one-game playoff now, and those are a crapshoot.
Deep Dish Baseball
6:11
Would Starlin Castro make for a good fit with the Cubs? I know his stats aren't great this year, but he should cost next to nothing and he has been really gold against LHP this year.
Connor Byrne
6:12
I don't see it. The Marlins would have to eat most of the money. Someone like Sogard, whom the Cubs have been linked to, seems like a better fit.
Braves get?
6:13
Felipe Vazquez and Mike Minor?
Connor Byrne
6:13
Maybe they'll be able to reunite with Minor. I don't think Vazquez is going anywhere, though I do believe the Pirates should at least consider selling high on him.
Casey
6:13
Any chance the Giants extend MadBUM?
Connor Byrne
6:15
Certainly a better chance than there was when the Giants weren't contending. He loves playing for the Giants, their fans love him (as the organization surely does). I'd love to know what Zaidi's thinking.

Do the Padres trade Yates now that they are slipping out of WC contention? And which teams come knocking?
Connor Byrne
6:16
Every contender that needs a reliever would come calling. Whether the Padres will deal him, I don't know. Should they? I think so. He'd bring back a lot, and they don't look like real playoff threats right now.
Tim Dierkes
6:17
Your fav player of all time?
Connor Byrne
6:17
I'm guessing this isn't the real Tim Dierkes. Answer: Mariano Rivera.
Pirates fan
6:18
Should the Pirates try to sign Matt Harvey?
Connor Byrne
6:19
If they can get him for next to nothing on a MLB deal or add him on a minors deal, there wouldn't be much harm in it.
Mets :/
6:19
Do you see the Mets making any significant trades leading up to the deadline? If so, who do they sell, and what can they expect back?
Connor Byrne
6:21
If Wheeler's healthy, I think he'll go (maybe for a top 100 prospect). They could move a guy like Todd Frazier and maybe Jason Vargas, but not for much in either case. I think they'll hold Syndergaard for now.
