The Sunday night chat is upon us!  Let's open up the question window....
Theo
8:34
What could I realistically get in return for Jose Quintana?
Mark P
8:35
Some type of mid-range, non top-100 prospect.  Quintana is a solid rotation arm at this point but someone that projects as a fourth starter on a contender.  He isn't Chicago's top trade chip by a long shot, yet since the Cubs are seemingly having trouble finding deals elsewhere, a more modestly-shopped asset like Quintana might be their best bet if they feel they have to make a trade
Brett
8:36
What’s the deal with verlander?
Mark P
8:37
Today's removal was reportedly just precautionary, though it's something of a wait-and-see situation.  Can't be too careful with a pitcher of Verlander's age and importance, especially since he has had triceps problems before
Hoosier Guy
8:37
Are pitch clocks still coming to the majors?
Mark P
8:38
I think we'll see pitch clocks in MLB games within the next five years, at the most
John
8:38
What type of season do you expect from Corey Kluber?   Does he have anything left?
Mark P
8:39
The Rangers are hoping 2019 was just an aberration, and if Kluber is healthy, it's quite possible he could return to something close to his old form.  He wasn't pitching well before his injury last season, but that was something of a small sample size.

Dodgers over/ under 105 wins?
Mark P
8:41
Dodgers win total?

Over 105 wins (19.9% | 244 votes)

Under 105 wins (72.8% | 892 votes)

Exactly 105 wins (7.3% | 89 votes)

Total Votes: 1,225
8:42
I'd personally vote under just because a lot has to go right for a team to win 105 games, notwithstanding how stacked a roster L.A. has
Rick Hahn
8:42
Why aren't more teams copying my model for extensions?
Mark P
8:43
(Rick Hahn = White Sox GM)

Signing promising young players to early-career extensions isn't exactly a new strategy.
Jeremy
8:43
Jays or Red Sox? who has the better season
Mark P
8:44
I'd say Boston.  Still a lot of proven talent on that team, whereas the Jays need multiple players to break out
Dealin dave
8:45
Why no word of what’s going on with the Red Sox investigation?
Mark P
8:46
The latest word was that MLB's report would be released before Opening Day, so there's still some time.  It's been about two months since the investigation began, which is roughly how long it took MLB to investigate and publicly report on the Astros, so it could be any time now
Dodger fan
8:46
will we keep stripling and Joc
Mark P
8:47
I suspect the Dodgers front office has heard a lot of offers for either player since the Angels trade fell through.  They're obviously both available for the right price, though I also don't think the Dodgers mind keeping either Pederson or Stripling as added depth
John
8:48
Could the Cubs be big time sellers at the deadline?
Mark P
8:49
Very possible.  Then again, after two quiet offseasons in a row, maybe we should readjust our expectations of what "big time" moves mean to the Cubs
Jeremy
8:49
Who is your favourite actor named Chris?
Mark P
8:49
Plummer
Axel
8:50
Who’s the surprise playoff team this season?
Mark P
8:51
I'm not sure they're necessarily a "surprise," but....Philadelphia?  With a bit better injury luck and an experienced manager like Girardi guiding the way, I could see the Phils get into the postseason

8:51
what do you think if the Rangers sign Yasiel Puig to a 1 year deal?
Mark P
8:52
With Calhoun out with a fractured jaw, Puig might now be an option for Texas.

8:52
We had these kinds of injuries all year last year and won 103 games.  why do people act like the injuries will doom us?
Mark P
8:53
Most teams can't sustain that type of injury onslaught for even one season, let alone two.  The Yankees also probably can't count on finding more hidden gems like Urshela, Tauchman, etc.
Not saying that NYY is doomed by any means, but obviously it doesn't help that their biggest names keep going down with various injuries
Mason Saunders
8:55
Data says Bo Bichette got lucky last year. Think he can go 20/20 .300?
Mark P
8:56
20/20 seems reasonable, if the Jays give him the green light enough times on the basepaths.

I'd say under on the batting average, just because there's a lot of variance with that stat.  Fun fact: only 19 qualified hitters batted .300 or better in 2019
Dave Roberts
8:57
Am I on the hot seat if I don't deliver a championship this year?
Mark P
8:59
Potentially, though even despite some of his decisions in the playoffs, Roberts does more to help the Dodgers can hurt them.

Also, I can't help but wonder if Roberts should be evaluated a bit differently in the wake of the Astros scandal.  Do L.A. fans feel better about their skipper if they'd won the 2017 Series?

What do you see the A's outfield looking like? Can Laureano play every day?
Mark P
9:01
Outfield is the only weak-ish link on a very solid A's roster, so I can see them perhaps making a trade by midseason to shore things up.  Laureano looks promising and Mark Canha's unexpected breakout was a big help, though neither is a proven commodity
Paul
9:02
The Dodgers hate handing out long contracts. Betts is going to demand something like $400M/10+ years. Who blinks?
Mark P
9:03
I think Betts is the exception for the Dodgers.  They wouldn't have traded for him if they weren't open to the idea of giving him a major extension
Cy Old

If Barry Bonds signed as a DH with an AL team, how many homers does he hit this season?
