Connor Byrne
6:03
Hey everyone. We'll get underway in a couple.
Robert
6:05
Will Brandon Workman be dealt at the deadline?
Connor Byrne
6:06
Makes sense on paper. He's a pending free agent who's very good, and the Red Sox don't look as if they're going to contend.
Matt
6:07
Looks like plenty of teams are going to be looking for starting pitching. Who are some names to watch on the trade front?
Connor Byrne
6:08
Robbie Ray comes to mind immediately, though maybe Arizona will rebound from its shockingly bad start. Mike Minor if the Rangers don't get it together. Maybe more Matt Boyd rumblings, too.
Stroman could be another if he's healthy and the Mets stay in the basement
Matt
6:08
What’s up with Benintendi? Has he reached his ceiling?
Connor Byrne
6:10
I'm not ready to say that, but he is off to an awful start and has been pretty average in two of three full seasons. Even if he has hit his ceiling, though, he's still a pretty useful player relative to his price tag. Of course, that's assuming this year's horrid production is just a blip.
Cody
6:11
Are you surprised the Cardinals didn't promote Dylan Carlson with their recent round of call ups?
Connor Byrne
6:11
Sort of. Their offense needs a jolt. I do think Carlson will be up at some point this year.
Rockies Fan
6:11
Do we hold onto Arenado because of the good start to our season?
Connor Byrne
6:12
I wasn't expecting an Arenado trade this season regardless, but kudos to the Rockies for greatly exceeding expectations so far. I'm still skeptical, but it's nice to already have eight wins in the bank.
Jim
6:13
What do you know about Bryce Harper?
Connor Byrne
6:13
He's fine. Playing in Game 2 of the doubleheader tonight.
Guest
6:13
Any word on Yordan Alvarez?
Connor Byrne
6:14
Nothing lately. He was cleared almost two weeks ago. Hopefully, he'll debut soon.
Ed
6:14
Can the Rangers get some good prospects for Lynn and Minor.
Connor Byrne
6:16
For sure, but Lynn's more likely to stick around with another year on his contract. He's been a Cy Young-level pitcher as a Ranger. Minor's been great in his own right, but if the Rangers aren't confident about re-signing him (I don't know if they are or aren't), it would make sense to listen to offers if they're not in contention. If they don't like the offers, they could just qualify him at season's end.
Cubs/Padres/White Sox/Orioles
6:16
Are we for real?
Connor Byrne
6:16
Yes, yes, yes, no. And by "for real," I mean playoff contenders.
Jimmy Dugan
6:17
Also, a 7 IP major league baseball game is the stupidest thing I've seen since starting an inning with a runner on second which was the stupidest thing I've seen since making a rule that says pitchers have to throw to three batters or finish an inning...
Connor Byrne
6:18
In a normal season, I'd agree, but they have to do what they can this year to get it in. So, I'm OK with the extra-innings/seven-inning rules for now.
Josh B
6:18
If you were a betting man, would you bet on Manfred getting an extension after his contract is up?
Connor Byrne
6:19
That would be awfully hard to justify as of now, but maybe Manfred can turn it around during the CBA negotiations. He's under contract through 2024.
Joe Hardy
6:19
Do you think Ohtani can be successful as a hitter and a pitcher?
Connor Byrne
6:21
Someone asked me last week if I was worried about Ohtani and I said no. Oops. Bottom line is he has only thrown 53 innings in three MLB seasons. That's definitely alarming. I still have faith he'll succeed as a 2-way player if he's actually healthy, but who knows if that will actually happen. Worst-case, the Angels have a good hitter.
Scuffy McGee
6:22
Why are the A's trotting out tony kemp on a regular basis instead of Franklin Barretto. I dont get it
Connor Byrne
6:22
That makes two of us, though Kemp has been effective at the plate this year (tiny sample size, granted). It would be nice to see Barretto sink or swim.
Kurtis D
6:23
Do you think the Blue Jays will turn things around and make the playoff with the new format?
Connor Byrne
6:23
I don't think they're a playoff team this year, but I believe they're better than their current pace
which isn't really a bold statement - they're playing .375 ball
Nicholas
6:24
What’s your opinion on the White Sox right now.
Connor Byrne
6:25
I thought they were playoff contenders coming into the season & that hasn't changed, though some of these recent injuries are disheartening.
Cuba White Sox
6:26
Which Cuban Chi Sox has the better career Yoan Moncada or Luis Robert?
Connor Byrne
6:26
More White Sox. They're both fantastic, but I'll take Moncada

6:26
Is Kimbrel Done?
Connor Byrne
6:28
Remember all the hubbub when he sat in free agency for so long just over a year ago? Maybe these teams knew something we didn't. I was willing to excuse his struggles last season because he didn't have a normal spring training, but it's stunning that he continues to look so awful. Typical of most relievers to fall off a cliff, though. Never happened to Mariano Rivera, which is one of the reasons he's the best ever.
David Sterns
6:28
will yelich ever hit again?
Connor Byrne
6:30
I was looking at his stats before this chat. I knew they were bad, but a 40-something percent strikeout rate and a 3 wRC+? Yikes. I'm not worried about an elite player, but damn. He's very likely not going to be an MVP candidate this year even if he turns it around.
Rangers29

If you were the gm of the Rangers today, and you were forced to make one trade, what is the trade?
