You know the drill: start asking, and I'll start answering in a few.

What team am I playing for in October?
Jeffrey Todd
5:18
I think it'll be awfully hard to deal him during the season. If nothing else, it's hard to imagine the Indians will be out of it in a short season format.
Now, next November/December ... might be an open auction.

Just for fun—how long do you think we get into the season before a game is cancelled for COVID-related roster issues?  My guess is two weeks...
Jeffrey Todd
5:19
Well the testing results have been pretty danged promising so far. So long as the players keep it tight, maybe a mini-outbreak can be avoided.
5:20
That said, it does seem likely there'll be more than one occasion where a game or series is called off because of multiple positive tests.

So, are the qualifying offer draft pick compensation and penalty still in effect for this offseason, or did they temporarily waive that?
Jeffrey Todd
5:22
I am pretty sure that was something the league offered in the negotiations for the re-negotiation that fell apart. So, QO remains in effect.
"negotiations for the re-negotiation," there's a turn of phrase

Franchy Cordero to the Royals looks good for the Royals.  Does that trade make them a .500 team now or is that hoping to much playing vs the stacked nl central?
Jeffrey Todd
5:24
I can understand getting excited on the KC side of this deal, because the Franch man is tooled up and is a position player. But there's a reason the Pads were willing to let him go ... and let's not forget they've been watching him closely in spring and summer camp. If they thought he was an everyday outfielder, hard to imagine he'd be in this deal.
5:26
Not to say it's not worth it for the Royals when you're talking about moving a 30yo reliever. But as for near-term expectations, how much can that add? 1 WAR in a full season? Obviously if he breaks out that changes things, but they did also pare down a good pen arm, so ... general view of KCR remains about the same to me.

Are bets still the same with the shortened season? I have 20 bucks on the Angles at 50-1.
Jeffrey Todd
5:27
If you get to ride pre-shutdown wagers, any longer-odds bets would be looking much, much better now. Halos at 50-1 seems awfully nice.

What now for puig?

Man, who knows ... in theory I guess he needs to wait for 2 positive tests. But I suppose the deal with ATL is now out the window. If and when he's negative, that could be revisited? Certainly possible he ends up stepping in with some other team that needs to patch an injury.
5:29
Given the weirdness of pulling off trades this season, this could work out okay for him. Say he recovers pretty quick without symptoms. Now, you've got a guy that has already knocked out the rona and is ready to roll for only a pro-rated portion of salary.

How many games must be played before the "luxury tax" resets?   One inning of one game?   One "official" game?   50% of the sixty-game season?   Something else?
Jeffrey Todd

No clue, but good question. Presumably the language is clear in the agreement.
Of course I said the same of the whole spectator-free game thing, and ... yeah ...

Who do you have for rookie of the year? And will teams still hold prospects down for service time reasons? Thanks for the chat!
Jeffrey Todd
5:32
Someone like Carter Kieboom -- already had a taste, now being thrown into the fire -- seems likelier than a mid-season call-up, since there'll be such a short window. I think we'll see less mid-season roster tinkering for a variety of reasons (normally 2 months would be when you'd start worrying about a guy).
5:33
But yeah, same service time considerations as ever except it's even easier to keep em down for a couple games. And even less reason to burn a full year of control.

What is the best case scenario for my Fish team? How do you think they do this short season? I see a surprise wild card
Jeffrey Todd
5:34
I mean, I'd be shocked. Not outside the realm of possibility, of course, but the NL is loaded with solid-to-good teams and they'll need to hop over an awful lot of them.

Any reason to believe in Vince Velasquez? Reports are good...for the 4th year in a row

5:35
I get it, but ... you just never know. Others have figured it out. And the alternative (Pivetta) is in more or less the exact same situation, so ... gotta roll with one!

Is Kyle Lewis going to be the AL rookie of the year? He seems like he will end up with a lot of homers and tons of play time

Awfully tough to do it right now given that the Cubs don't know if they're going to get killed on gate revenue again in 2021.
