Hey there folks, let's dive into some baseball questions!
matt m
8:06
Should the Phillies trade and try to resign JTR?
Mark P
8:08
Phils would lose their chance at a qualifying offer, so that idea seems out of the question.  Besides the QO, Realmuto might not appreciate being dealt, or might really love it on his new team.  Not factors the Phillies want to deal with if they want him back in 2021
What's the deal with...
8:08
Backs? It seems like everyone had a back injury the last 3-4 days
Mark P
8:09
Many predicted we'd see a lot of muscle/back/ligament type injuries given the weird stop-and-start nature of the season, and that seems to be coming to pass.

8:10
what kind of package do you see The Giants getting for Kevin Gausman?
Mark P
8:10
Maybe one okay prospect, certainly nothing in the top-100 range.
Chris
8:11
Should the angels sell?
Mark P
8:12
7-15 record right now, so I'd give it another week before making a decision if I'm the GM.  Another losing week and I think you have to seriously consider throwing in the towel on 2020
Matt
8:12
Brodie good as gone once the Mets are sold?
Mark P
8:12
Most owners want their own people in place, yet it's premature to just assume that will be the case in New York.
John
8:14
What do you expect the Orioles and tigers to do at the deadline? Sell? Buy? Any chance they call up a top prospect?
Mark P
8:14
I don't think either team will go overboard on deadline trades if they're in contention.  But I could see one semi-notable addition or two, especially since both teams have some glaring weak points that could be shored up.
8:15
Mize will probably be up for Detroit at some point before the season is up.  Wouldn't it be cool if he gets off to a strong start and leads the underdog Tigers into the playoffs?

Blake Snell to Texas?
Mark P
8:16
Why in the world would Tampa deal Snell?
Guest
8:16
What will the Indians do with Clevinger and Plesac?
Mark P
8:17
What a bizarre situation that is.  You have to wonder what's happening behind the scenes in Cleveland, since some Tribe players were pretty vocally and publicly upset at the two pitchers.  Plesac's impossibly tone-deaf social media video also didn't help matters.
8:19
I guess we can't rule out either being traded, if relations have really soured to the Nth degree.  But assuming both pitchers are remorseful and realize they screwed up, things could settle down and both could be back in the rotation fairly soon
Trade deadline
8:19
Who would you say would be the better bet for a contending team? Matthew Boyd or Robbie Ray?
Mark P
8:20
Ray, and by a wide margin if Boyd keeps pitching this poorly
Chris
8:20
When will the trades start? On the 31st or earlier?
Mark P
8:21
You'll see at least a couple of moves come prior to deadline day itself, since a few teams already seem to be out of it
Ohio440guy
8:21
Will the Tribe make any moves ? Yastrzemski?
Mark P
8:22
Yaz would be a really interesting pickup.  The Giants can plausibly ask for a good return for him given his production over the last year, though I wouldn't expect a great return given Yaz's overall lack of track record.
8:23
For Giants fans aghast that Yaz would be a trade chip....he also turns 30 next week, and probably isn't a realistic candidate to be part of the next Giants contender.  Might be wise to sell high now
Royalsfan
8:25
Do you expect Merrifield to get traded before the deadline?
Mark P
8:25
Nope
Gashouse Gorilla
8:25
Can you see any theoretically playoff-competitive teams just make an internal decision that the season is too nuts anyway, so why not sell off pieces for talent and salary relief? Call it tanking-light?
Mark P
8:26
Since at least three-quarters of the league will still be "theoretically playoff-competitive" by August 31, this will definitely happen.
Mike Rizzo
8:27
Where the heck is my contract?
Mark P
8:27
Good question.  You'd think the Nats would have worked out a new deal with Rizzo before the confetti from the parade was cleaned up
Jon
8:27
Keibert Ruiz, the future long-term C for LA? Or Will Smith?
Mark P
8:28
It's funny, it wasn't long ago that people were saying "Austin Barnes, future long-term C for LA or Will Smith?"
8:29
If I had to pick one, Smith will be the Dodgers' guy.  Doesn't mean things couldn't change as both players get more MLB experience.  Given the Dodgers' love of depth, I could even see Ruiz and Smith both being used in a super-platoon, where one is in the lineup as a DH or first baseman when the other is behind the plate
Bogs
8:29
Can't imagine Texas would trade Lance Lynn, who has been baseball's best pitcher this year and controllable for next season. But, just for funnsies, what would the return be?
Mark P
8:30
Given Lynn's strong numbers and the fact that he's only owed $8MM in 2021, the Rangers could land something akin to what Toronto got for Stroman last year
8:31
But you're right, Texas is almost surely not trading Lynn
Aaron Judge
8:31
Not understanding why I was just put on the 10 IL when I’m 100% ready to go. This makes no sense
Mark P
8:32
After last year, I can definitely understand why NYY would be as cautious as possible with any injury scares.

Plus, they have the benefit of Tauchman and Frazier come into the lineup and immediately start hitting bombs.
