Time for the Sunday night chat, let's dive into some questions!
Jeffrey
6:52
predictions for the division series winner in each league?
Mark P
6:52
Dodgers, Marlins, Rays, A's
Guest
6:53
Division series with greatest chance of “upset” in your opinion?
Mark P
6:54
Good use of quote marks, since anything can happen in a five-game series.  I guess the "upset" that would surprise me least is Marlins over Braves since I just made that pick, but obviously the Yankees topping Tampa wouldn't be a shock.
Josh

Could you see the Angels hiring both a President of Baseball Ops and a GM?
Mark P
6:55
Quite possibly, sure.  Many reports have linked Dave Dombrowski to the job, so he could take the PBOp position and hire a GM to handle day-to-day stuff.
All options are on the table for the Angels, I'd imagine
Rocco Baldelli
6:56
Am I getting fired? If not, what changes does my team need to make?
Mark P
6:57
I think there is a zero percent chance Baldelli is fired.  Whatever the reason is for the Twins' inexplicable playoff curse, it isn't him.

In terms of changes, I'd suspect the Twins will continue to look for pitching, and also have to decide if the team is now for their younger outfielders (which would mean Eddie Rosario is moved)

do you think DJ leaves NY?
Mark P
6:59
If I had to guess, I think he'll end up staying.  The Yankees seem to love the guy, and DJ has been the best player on the team for the last two seasons.
7:00
He'll obviously get a lot of interest in free agency, with the caveat that some teams will be facing financial restraints.  The Yankees have enough revenue depth that they won't (shouldn't?) have such restraints

I'm a Pirates fan, what's the chance that Josh Bell gets traded this offseason, I'm bbn ot putting anything past our GM or owner.
Mark P
7:03
I would actually bet against a Bell trade, just because the Pirates would be selling low.  On the flip side, Bell has only really been elite for the first half of the 2019 season....since then, he's been a pretty ordinary or even subpar hitter.  I'm sure the Bucs would be open to moving him for a good offer.
Sandy
7:04
Do you think Hinch , Cora or Beltran will gets MLB jobs again ?
Mark P
7:05
It seems likely, and at least one of Cora or Hinch could get new jobs before the offseason is out.

To be frank, I'm not sure why either are necessarily such hot commodities.  Maybe hire a manager who doesn't have a major cheating scandal attached to his resume?

Odds on a Lindor trade and what they might get in return?
Mark P
7:09
I think Lindor is as good as gone.  I'd expect the return to be a lesser version of what the Dodgers gave up for Betts last offseason....an MLB-ready young player, a top prospect, and another decent but not top tier prospect.
Ricky
7:09
Why did the Cardinals let Ozuna walk?
Mark P
7:10
Ozuna was good but not great during his two years in STL, and the Cardinals thought they had a lot of good young outfielders ready to step in immediately.
7:11
It was a logical decision, though one that obviously doesn't look great in hindsight given Ozuna's huge year.  Maybe he just needed a change of scenery

7:12
Can the Braves get to the World Series with with Fried, Anderson & Wright plus using an "opener"?
Mark P
7:12
Teams made gotten through postseasons with less pitching than that, so sure.
Nico
7:12
Do you think there are any genuine chances the mets sign Bauer and Realmuto?
Mark P
7:13
Sure, there's a chance.  I will say that Mets fans are maybe getting a bit ahead of themselves in thinking the ownership change will suddenly lead to immediate $250MM payrolls or something, but I think at least one big signing is coming for the team once Cohen takes over.
The North
7:15
Jays chances of landing Bauer?
Mark P
7:16
I'd say they have a shot.  The Jays check a lot of Bauer's criteria in that they're a competitive team, they're trying to be on the cutting edge of analytics and player physical/mental health, and they might even let him pitch every fourth day.  Plus, don't forget that Shapiro and Atkins were in Cleveland's front office when the Tribe first dealt for Bauer, so there's a connection there.
Waino/Yadia
7:18
You think they will be back with the Cards? You think they need to add a vet to pitching staff or trade some young talent for one?
Mark P
7:18
I think both will be back, ultimately.
K.O.
7:19
Of the 2022 possible Cubs free agents, who would you try to trade now to get something in return
Mark P
7:22
Bryant, Baez, Schwarber, Rizzo are the big names in question, and unfortunately for the Cubs, they all ranged from average to bad in 2020.

If I had to pick one with the most trade value, I'd go with Baez (because of his overall package of defense and baserunning) or Rizzo, as Rizzo was the only one who had a decent year at the plate.

Klentak is out, is MacPhail next?
Mark P
7:23
MacPhail is already known to be retiring after the 2021 season, which kind of complicates matters for the Phils.  One theory raised today was that they'd just keep the interim GM for the entire season and then make an entirely fresh set of hires if need be during the 2021-22 offseason.
Legendary Pitcher
7:23
RIP Bob Gibson - I never saw him pitch but have heard so many amazing stories about him from my Dad.
Mark P
7:24
Gibson is one of the true all-time greats.  His 1968 season in particular is on the short list for the single best seasons in baseball history
Shane
7:24
If you had the first overall pick in the Candy Draft, which candy goes Number 1?
Mark P

Mike Trout
7:25
Should Angels start over and trade me?
Mark P
7:25
I'm not sure if "too good to trade" exists, but if it does, Trout fits the description
