Since we didn't have a chat last weekend, this weekend sees us double up with TWO chats.  What a time to be alive!  Let's check in on some questions....
Nats
7:17
Do we go after an outfielder(Springer, Ozuna), Realmuto, or both?
Mark P
7:18
Both seems like a pretty significant investment, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Nationals made one big splash.  Free agent signings are their M.O., after all.
alfredo
7:19
  • who do we see off the board first i. free agency
Mark P
7:20
I have a sneaking suspicion it'll be Robbie Ray, re-signing with the Jays for, let's say, oh, one year and $8MM
7:21
Serious answer: unless Gausman or Stroman accept the qualifying offer, I'm not sure you'll see any of the top tier guys grabbing offers until later in the offseason.  There's just so much uncertainty with teams' budgets at the moment, plus teams might wait until after the non-tender deadline to see who else might become available
That’s it Fort Pitt
7:22
Who is the most likely Pirate to be traded this offseason, and what type of return might they bring? And the same for 2021 deadline, assuming they’re well out of it and nobody gets extended.
Mark P
7:22
Anthony Franco just wrote a piece about Joe Musgrove as a trade candidate, and I agree that Musgrove is quite likely to move teams: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/11/trade-candidate-joe-musgrove.ht...
7:23
With two years of control at a reasonable salary, Musgrove could really be a fit on almost any team in baseball.  The Pirates won't be able to land an elite prospect since Musgrove isn't in that tier of pitcher, but a couple of decent youngsters seems reasonable.

Do you believe the Cardinals declined Kolten Wong's option , in order to allocate said funds to the retention of Wainwright & Molina , or to allocate those funds for a trade/signing ? Lindor has been mentioned , along with the seemingly obligatory Arenado talk .
Mark P
7:25
Could be none of the above, as the Cards might simply not have thought Wong was worth $12.5MM, or they think they can re-sign him for less, or they're prepared to just slot Edman into second base and go from there.
Irv
7:25
Do you expect the White Sox to spend more this year since LaRussa came on board.  Would he have agreed to come out of retirement without some assurance holes would be filled?
Mark P
7:26
I would imagine the White Sox aren't going to pump the brakes now, agreed
Chris Antonetti
7:27
Is the mystery AL Central team on Jackie Bradley the Indians?
Mark P
7:28
That would make an awful lot of sense, though the Royals and Tigers could also fit.  Even the White Sox, if they wanted to shift Robert to right field and really soup up the outfield defense, but they're likely more than fine keeping Robert in CF.

7:29
Will the giants have any chance to unload Longoria?
Mark P
7:30
Doubtful.  He's making just under $40MM over the next two years, and he's been around a league-average hitter for about the last four seasons.
7:31
Unless it's part of a bad contract swap, Longoria likely isn't going anywhere.  Teams can find third base help at a lesser cost.

7:32
All you here about these days is GM’s trying to exploit the market.  Does any team other than the Mets actually go for it this winter?
Mark P
7:33
I think teams like the White Sox, Giants, Dodgers, Blue Jays, and the Mets all have money to spend or are planning to "go for it."  But that being said, you'll always have teams like the Rays who "go for it" in their own way without big spends, so you'll see a lot more clubs trying to adopt a version of that approach (with more dollars than the Rays can offer, of course)
Dylan
7:33
Could Luke Voit be part of a package for Lindor?
Mark P
7:34
Sure, the Tribe would definitely have interest in Voit.  BUT, only as part of a deal, not necessarily as the centerpiece
Ohio440guy
7:34
Would the Tribe be better suited to blow up the team and trade Lindor, Ramirez and Carrasco ?
Mark P
7:34
That pitching staff is so good that this team can definitely still contend, so there's no need to blow things up
George Springer
7:35
Growing up in CT, can one assume my team of preference to sign with his the Yankees?
Mark P
7:36
Not necessarily.  Some notable players (Trout, Harper, Votto, off the top of my head) are on record as saying they like playing away from their hometowns in order to create some space between their professional and personal lives.
Anthony
7:37
How do you think the winter meetings will be this off-season?
Mark P
7:38
I don't want to say non-existent, but....basically non-existent?  I'm not sure if a "virtual" meetings will create anything close to the same kind of nonstop four-day rush of news and rumors that the normal in-person meetings bring
Your Name
7:39
Do we have any sense of how slowly this offseason's transactions will go? Will teams and players want to wait to make deals, or will they jump to lock things down to create some economic and roster stability amid all of the other uncertainty?
Mark P
7:40
Mostly slowly, but some teams could benefit by taking a more proactive approach.  I wonder if we might see a few more instances of the Robbie Ray/Jays situation ---- team likes their own free agent, makes a respectable offer right away, player takes it since they like the team, bing bang boom.
Charles Finley
7:41
Could Dejong move to 2B to accomodate Lindor?  What would a Cards trade package look like (Carlson-plus)?
Mark P
7:42
No way the Cardinals trade Carlson for one year of Lindor.  I could see a scenario where an O'Neill or a Bader is involved, maybe.
Cyndatu
7:43
Do you think the Rays could/should for Christian Vazquez? If so, do you think Kevin Kiermaier could be included in the deal to help replace JBJ in CF for Boston?
Mark P
7:45
It would take more pieces than just a straight one-for-one, but that would be an interesting concept.  I do think Vazquez is still a pretty valuable player on his contract, so the Sox aren't in any rush to move him.  They can find a good CF glove who is at least in the ballpark of Kiermaier's defense at a fraction of the price....reunion with Kevin Pillar wouldn't shock me
What???
7:45
I read somewhere that the Indians might just end up nontendering Lindor because no one will trade for him and that $21M probable arb number.  What you think?
Mark P
7:45
No way is that happening.
Kluber
7:45
Where do I end up? Major League contract? MiLB w/ invite to Spring Training??
Mark P
7:46
MLB contract, but may not for a lot of guaranteed money and a lot of incentives
Monte
7:46
Also, just so people know, is it worth submitting the same question twice?  Like, are you going back through questions or is it just a flurry of the most recent questions?
