Live from New York, it's Chaturday night!  Let's take some questions....

When do you guys think some bigger names will start to sign?
Mark P
8:02
It might not be for a while.  There is some feeling that free agency in general won't really kick into gear until after the Dec. 2 non-tender deadline, when lots of new players will be let go by their current teams.
8:03
Now, if you're at the VERY top of the market, the non-tender deadline isn't really a factor.  But the blue chip types are likelier to wait anyway until they fully explore their markets, or until teams get a better sense of their budges

Will Freddie Freeman accept my extension offer this winter?
Mark P
8:04
Depends on the years and money

Is this Jim Carrey or Frank Gorshin?

Who have the Mets interviewed so far for Vpbo and gm?
Mark P
8:06
Michael Hill is the only candidate known to have interviewed so far
Cubbieblues

Who is the cubs next gm/president of baseball ops after Theo?  Does it stay in house or do they go external?
Mark P
8:07
There seems to be some expectation that Jed Hoyer will take over.  The Cubs could just bump everyone up a level, making Hoyer the new POBO and promoting Jason McLeod to general manager (unless another team hires McLeod away first)

With kershaw, price, urias, may, buehler, gonsolin and every starting pitcher whose market doesn't develop (bauer, odorizzi, etc) wanting to sign in LA, who do you think is the odd man out? And should they trade someone while the value is highest?
Mark P
8:10
As we saw in the postseason, LA's "starting" depth is perhaps a touch overstated, since Buehler and Kershaw were the only pitchers the team truly trusted to regularly start games.  So I could see the Dodgers just hang onto everyone for the sake of getting through the regular season, and maybe adding another veteran arm for further depth
8:11
Now, if they decided to make a splash for someone like Bauer, that's obviously a game-changer that would make L.A. more likely to offer someone else up in a trade.  I would guess Gonsolin is the most expendable of the current bench, which is no knock on Gonsolin but rather a tribute to how many good arms L.A. has

Does the hiring of Ng give us any indication of Miami’s budget this winter?  Could they be a dark-horse to sign somebody like (bear with me here) JT Realmuto?
Mark P
8:13
Miami re-signing Realmuto would be kind of hilarious, and it might cause Phillies fans to revolt.

But, I doubt the Marlins will do anything that major.  Trading for Marte last summer might end up being their biggest 2021 move, but I do expect the team to be active in lower-level acquisitions

I wonder how many people on here know who frank gorshin is/was. Poll?
Mark P
8:13
Hey, I'm just wondering if I should have mentioned Paul Dano in that list......assuming the next Batman movie is ever released.

Are fans hypocrites for wanting their team to sign George Springer
Mark P
8:15
Maybe to some extent?  Fans tend to forgive a lot of transgressions when a star player is suddenly on their team.

Does Andujar, Frazier and Schmidt get me Lindor?
Mark P
8:16
I'd imagine Cleveland says yes to that offer, but I doubt the Yankees would give up that much

8:16
Ozuna to Chisox?
Andy
8:16
Marcell Ozuna to Boston ?
Mark P
8:17
Both colors of Sox to choose from!  Chicago is the likelier option than Boston, since we have a clearer idea that Chicago will be in "go for it" mode.

Ok is there any money on STL for landing a middle infielder w power. Are we going to resign Molina and waino
Mark P
8:19
I stand by my prediction that Molina and Wainwright will both ultimately end up re-signing in STL.  As for the power-hitting middle infielder, those types of players are harder to come by.  It depends on whether or not the Cards were trying to save $12MM by not picking up Wong's option, or if they're willing to spend that money but on a player better (or maybe more well-rounded) than Wong

8:20
Should I try to sign Realmuto instead of ozuna?
Mark P
8:21
That would be a bold move for a team that already has Travis d'Arnaud, though d'Arnaud would then become an interesting trade chip.  I'd say probably not for Atlanta, they seem likelier to spend their money on third base or the rotation

Are people getting a bit too crazy about their expectations for Cohen's budget with no track record of him as an owner? I just dont feel like him being a "fan" means he's going to break the bank to get every player under the sun or even that he's going to go over the lux tax.
Mark P
8:22
Cohen said himself during his press conference that the Mets won't be spending like "drunken sailors," so you're right, I wouldn't suddenly expect the Mets to sign all four of the qualifying offer guys or anything
8:23
But it speaks to just how starved Mets fans and media are to win (and how sick everyone was of the Wilpons) that Cohen's fairly standard new-owner press conference was treated like the Gettysburg Address

why is there so much delay in the decision to have the DH in the national league?
Mark P
8:26
The rule change can't be made without approval from the MLBPA, and since the players want it, the owners figure they can bargain it for some other kind of concession.  Since the players and owners tend to spend weeks arguing about anything more complicated than a pizza order, it may still be some time before we know about a DH

Now that Kershaw has his ring, does he retire to pave the way for Bauer to sign with LA?
Mark P
8:27
Pretty sure Kershaw isn't going to walk away from $23.3MM next year, and I'm sure he feels like the Dodgers can win another title in 2021 as well

What are your thoughts about the Rangers new stadium???? From the television,  it looked awesome.  Did you like the bubble and neutral site for the playoffs and World Series?
