It wouldn't be Wade, so either the Yankees get another lower-cost 2B or they move Gleyber to second base and get a shortstop

The Padres Will make the playoffs with or without Darvish, His profuction is to volatile for me to agree with that trade
Mark P
8:44
It's not about just making the playoffs now for SD, they want to make some noise in October

Can teams and players sign contracts with incentives based on attendance?  Seems to be fair and logical solution. Player gets guaranteed amount if no attendance, but has escalators based on attendance or percentage of occupancy allowed.
Mark P
8:45
There have been attendance-based incentive clauses in the past, so it would make sense if they were brought back in 2021 when attendance is more of an X-factor than ever

If the Jays trade for a Reds pitcher would it make sense to take back Moose and his contract to lessen the prospects needed.  He is useful.
Mark P
8:46
The Jays had interest in signing Moustakas last winter, too.

I think just about every Toronto fan had this same "Moose + Gray or Castillo" thought occur to them as soon as the Reds trade rumors began to surface

Do most players just leave things to their agent regarding particulars or are the players involved quite a bit?
Mark P
8:49
Depends on the player, really.  Some guys like to keep contractual matters (even when it comes to finding a new team) at arm's length, apart from telling their agent where they have particular interest in playing.  Other guys like to really delve into things more closely.

Mike Trout for one of Pete Alonso or Dom Smith, Ronny Mauricio, Brett Baty and Matt Allen. Mets take on all of Trouts contract. Who hangs up first?
Mark P
8:52
Minasian might at least say "nice try, Sandy" rather than laughing and immediately hanging up, but he's definitely hanging up

Is Dayton Moore on the hot seat at this point?  Three lousy seasons in a row, only 3 winning years since 2006  + a new owner, is he in jeopardy of losing his job or does '14/'15 buy him more time?
Mark P
8:54
Moore reportedly signed an extension with the Royals within the last year, so he isn't going anywhere
Angels
8:55
I think the constant Adell questions show the lack of prospect depth and the desperation of angel fans to finally get an ace.
Mark P
8:56
I don't blame Angels fans for being frustrated, but there are other ways to land a star pitcher than by trading a player who seems universally considered a future star
Chase S
8:58
Are the Mets or Jays really going to give Springer more than 5 years on his new contract?
Mark P
8:58
If that's what it takes to land him, I can see either team making that move.  Don't forget, the Mets already exceeded expectations in giving four years to McCann, and the Jays were apparently the only team to offer four years to Ryu

Where does 61* rank among your favorite baseball movies?
Mark P
9:00
I haven't seen 61* since it first came out, but I recall it being a pretty good movie.  Really good Barry Pepper performance as Maris

Would you trade Kris Bryant?
Mark P
9:01
In a perfect world where money isn't an object, no.
In a world where my boss is telling me to cut payroll for 2021, I may have no choice
Wes
9:02
A’s chances of resigning Semien at this point?
Mark P
9:03
Still unlikely.  The A's seem to be in a holding pattern, as they're not openly unloading salaries like other teams, but they're also certainly not adding
M's Optimist
9:04
Where do you see the M"s finishing in 2021 over a 162 game season? Do they have a shot at 1st place in the division?
Mark P
9:05
Even in a weakened AL West, a whole lot would have to go right for Seattle to take first place.  A winning record would be a nice step forward for the M's but I think the playoff drought is continuing
Entrance Music
9:05
What would your walk up song be??
Mark P
9:06
By my standard answer of "whatever is currently playing on my iTunes," my walkup song is Extreme Ways by Moby

This is something that has always confused me.  Since Farhan left the Dodgers for the Giants, who is the GM for the Dodgers?
Mark P
9:08
They never hired one.  Josh Byrnes is the senior VP of baseball operations, and there are two assistant GMs.

But ultimately, it's all just job titles.  Friedman is the leader of the baseball ops department, everyone answers to him

Does Scott rolen get in to hof ?
Mark P
9:08
I hope he does.  He is an underrated star, in my view.

If (big if) the Reds were to trade Castillo, what would a package look like?  One player in the top 20 of a BA100 list, or multiple top 100s, or a grab bag like Darvish?
Mark P
9:10
Reds can quite reasonably ask for more than the Rays got for Snell --- Castillo only just became arb-eligible, for he's cost-controlled for three years
GM for the day
9:11
Bo Bichette to indians, for carrasco, lindor.. is it bedtime or is this realistic?
Mark P
9:11
There is virtually no chance the Jays would trade Bichette
GIRARDI JOE
9:12
If you were on the radio or TV, the producer would be playing the music to say wrap it up, no?
Mark P
9:13
Well, I guessssss it's been over two hours, but the first chat of the year could afford to be a bit longer.

Thanks for all the questions, back next weekend with another chat!
