Did I wait too late to start this chat, and now risk being interrupted by a Jameson Taillon trade at any moment?  Only time....will tell.

Let's dive into some questions!
Tommy

Over/under February 1 for Realmuto to be signed?
Mark P
10:30
Will Realmuto sign before February 1?

If the pirates take on ottavino could they get more prospects for Taillon?
Mark P
10:31
The idea of the Pirates taking on any money seems questionable, but in theory, sure.  The Yankees would love to get Ottavino's contract off the books and free up a bit more luxury tax space
Braves
10:32
Possibility of JT realmuto to Braves?
Mark P
10:32
Probably not that great.  Knowing the Braves' strategy, they might be seeing if Realmuto will take a one-year deal due to dissatisfaction with the current market, as they reportedly did with Springer.

Anything about the dbacks please ? CF, bullpen help ?
Mark P
10:33
Arizona is in the running for quietest offseason of any team.  Doesn't seem like they'll do anything major, and still instead more or less try again in 2021 with the same roster, in the belief that last year was just a fluke
Sandy Aldersen
10:35
Do I try to sign JBJ Jr. or trade for a true CF?
Mark P
10:35
Bradley isn't a "true centerfielder
?
Sorry, typo there.....full sentence was "Bradley isn't a true center fielder?"

I was so confused I hit the send button too soon!
10:36
Anyway, Bradley makes a lot of sense for the Mets, absolutely.

Hypothetically, let’s say that I’m the Dodgers GM. What would I have to give up in a trade for Jose Ramirez? (Assuming he was available) It seems like it’s gotten to the point where the Indians have been asking for quantity over quality, and got especially lowballed in the Lindor trade.
Mark P
10:38
I'm not sure "lowballed" is really the right term, but Cleveland was hampered by other teams knowing that Lindor was definitely on the move, and the number of other shortstops available to clutter his market.

With Ramirez, however, no such barriers exist.  Cleveland would start by asking for at least two of Josiah Gray, Ruiz, and Lux, and they'd probably ask for Edwin Rios too
Ramon Laureano
10:39
Any possibility that Sandy Alderson pries me loose from the A's?
Mark P
10:40
Pretty unlikely.  Cohen and Alderson said that the Mets were more likely to acquire talent via signings than trades since they wanted to hang onto their top minor leaguers.  Now, they already went back on that to some extent in the Lindor deal, but that also means their farm system is even thinner.

Do the Rays need a new owner to have a chance at a World Series?
Mark P
10:42
I mean, they came awfully close to winning a Series last year.  Say what you will about the team's financial situation and its approach to roster construction, but they've been able to contend despite these limitations

Didi and Jays a perfect fit?
Mark P
10:43
Assuming Didi signed for more than a one-year deal, I'm not sure it would be "perfect" considering the Jays surely haven't given up on Bichette as a shortstop.  If you sign Gregorius or another shortstop-only type to a longer-term deal, you're making Bichette into a 3B or 2B right now.
Twins guy
10:44
Any movement on Story to the Twins? Or is he more likely traded at the deadline?
Mark P
10:44
Nothing on that front, though there has been a real lack of news on the Rockies in general.  We don't know if they're planning to rebuild, contend, thread the needle between reloading while moving Arenado or a big short-term contract, etc.

10:45
Tanaka 15 mill get him to Anaheim?
Mark P
10:46
That seems to be his rough asking price, so if the Angels were willing to pay up, I see no reason why Tanaka wouldn't have interest.

Trade proposal
10:47
Red Six send Benentendi, Vasquez and Chavis to the Rays for Brujan, Baz and Bitsko. Who says no?
Mark P
10:47
I tend to think Tampa, since I'm not sure they're willing to take on that much (modest) salary
Nicholas
10:48
Cardinals like to sign their promising young players long term contracts, maybe the reason they haven't signed Flaherty one of those because he ain't interested?
Mark P
10:50
Flaherty and the Cards are going to an arbitration hearing, and even his pre-arb salaries were renewed rather than agreed upon (details here: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/03/cardinals-renew-jack-flahertys-...)

So yeah, it seems like the two sides have trouble seeing eye to eye on even more basic contract talks, let alone an extension
Dodgers
10:52
It seems like if things continue to trend as they are currently that we will see fans in stadiums at a reduced rate to begin the season and possibly even full stadiums by the All Star Break. What say you?
Mark P
10:53
I'm a lot more doubtful than that.  It will be interesting if MLB issues a blanket 'no fans' policy across the league (for the start of the season at least), or if some teams will be allowed to welcome some fans based on local regulations.

10:53
Canha, Rosario, La Stella fits for Atlanta?
Mark P
10:54
Those guys would all be very good signings for the Braves.
Iceberg
10:54
I’m still not sold on the J.A. Happ signing. Can you help me convince that he will at least help the Twins win a playoff game or win the Cy young or something?
Mark P
10:56
How about this one...Happ has played on a lot of postseason teams in his career, and his teams have always won at least one playoff series
Guest
10:56
After seeing the price tag on Happ and Richards' one year deals, are you surprised Kluber received 1/$11?
Mark P
10:57
Not entirely, since despite the last two lost seasons, Kluber has shown that he has a much higher ceiling when healthy.
Taillon Trade
10:57
"high-ceiling prospects, even if that means taking players who are further away from reaching the Majors"

So you're saying Taillon for Jasson Dominguez?
Mark P
10:58
Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and predict that Dominguez isn't part of this deal.
