It seems like we've had an offseason's worth of moves within the last week, so plenty to chat about this week.  Let's dive into the questions....
Dak
8:08
Is Jose Ramirez going to the Braves
Mark P
8:09
Not unless Atlanta makes Cleveland a truly over-the-top offer.  As seen as the Eddie Rosario/Cesar Hernandez signings, the Tribe are still trying to win in 2021.  While a Ramirez trade may be inevitable, I don't think it'll happen for another year

8:10
Yadier Molina and done for STL?
Mark P
8:10
I guess we'll have to see what the exact fallout of the Arenado trade is to see if the Cards might have another hole to fill, but I'd guess the proverbial heavy lifting is done
Tyler
8:11
When should the arenado to cardinals trade by approved and completed?
Mark P
8:12
According to most reports it might be a week, given all of the many contractual items to be arranged, league approval for the money going from the Rockies to the Cardinals, physicals on the players involved, etc.
MN Boy
8:12
How do you feel about Simmons going to the Twins?  Any rumors of pitchers heading MN's way?
Mark P
8:13
If Simmons is healthy and up to his usual form, it's a nice move for the Twins.  Adding Simmons is a huge upgrade to any infield defense
8:14
Plus, better run prevention in the form of improved defense is also helpful to the pitching staff
Astros fan
8:14
It seems both sides are amicable to it so what does it take to sign Correa long term?
Mark P
8:16
None of the shortstop contracts this winter served as real comps for Correa, so it's hard to forecast a specific number.  Frankly, I doubt he signs an extension, as he has indicated in the past that he is eager to test the market
Blue Jays Fan
8:16
With the Rockies seemingly selling, any chance the Jays can swoop in for Marquez? They could send some decent prospects and some cash...
Mark P
8:17
Ha, my Jays fans friends and I have tossed around a number of "Marquez + Desmond's contract for prospects" scenarios within the last day in our text chain.  But if the Rockies really are in sell mode, half the teams in the league (at least) should be in on Marquez
Cohen
8:17
whats the holdup with Bauer?
Mark P
8:18
Nobody has met his asking price.  It's probably as simple as that.
Dave
8:18
Should the Phillies be going after Rosenthal to bolster the pen?
Mark P
8:18
Makes a lot of sense, sure.
Sophie
8:18
Are the Phillies now contenders for the division? If not, what more do they need?
Mark P
8:19
In a word, pitching.  Their bullpen and their rotation both still need some work, in my view.
James
8:19
Will the Rangers pick up another pitcher who can eat innings at the top of the rotation?
Mark P
8:19
It seems like the Rangers are probably done with any big moves, i.e. bringing in a "top of the rotation" type.
Jaxon
8:20
I understand the money side of the Arenado trade but kicking in 50 mil, the Rockies return was way to light. Your thoughts?
Mark P
8:20
It seems ludicrously light, based on the information known about the trade thus far.  Rockies fans are justified in being irate about this.
Clint
8:21
Do I get moved for a high end starter at the deadline?
Mark P
8:21
I assume this is Clint Frazier and not, like, Clint Eastwood.

And my answer is no, because I think the ship has sailed on Frazier trades.  If you're the Yankees and have a bunch of outfield injuries every year, you're going to want to keep the young guy who has shown he can hit at the big league level
Uncomfortable
8:23
Is there a trade market for Trevor Story?  He's great, but he's a rental and any potential destination has locked in their SS.
Mark P
8:24
I think a lot of teams even with current shortstops in place would make room for even one year of Trevor Story, so his market would be pretty robust.  I have to imagine a lot of teams have called the Rockies about him
MJ
8:24
When Scott Rolen goes into the HOF, what hat does he wear?
Mark P
8:25
Surely a Cardinals hat, I'd think.  The 2006 Series is the clincher.
Jerry DiPoto
8:26
Paxton on a one year deal?
Mark P
8:26
(Dipoto = Mariners GM)

He'd make a lot of sense for Seattle, sure.
Minasian
8:27
Why have I waited this long to get another starter? I have to be pursuing Bauer and believe I have a realistic chance at getting him, right?
Mark P
8:28
(Perry Minasan = Angels GM)

As per the latest reports, a Bauer/Angels match isn't happening: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/01/angels-not-expected-to-pursue-t...
As such, I have to think the Halos are still exploring trade options, or maybe looking to sign Odorizzi
Amateur GM
8:29
Why do fans on every other team not named the Cleveland baseball team believe JRam can be had for cheap? This isn’t the same scenario for Lindor when they were forced to get pennies on the dollar because they waited too long to trade him.
Mark P
8:29
Bingo.  Ramirez is an immensely valuable player.  Cleveland can rightfully ask for an absolute haul for a controllable, inexpensive, MVP-caliber player
Stu OK
8:30
Padres seem to be relying on a closer being available at the trade deadline if they need one. Too risky?
Mark P
8:30
There are worse ideas than seeing if Pomeranz can close games.  Or, maybe one of the Padres' younger arms is brought up as a closer, 2006 Adam Wainwright style
MARCO
8:32
will we finally see a colorado rebuild?
