Jason Martinez

I'm thinking end of the month. That should give him another 30-40 PAs.

who hits leadoff vs lefties in LA w/ Forsythe on dl? Puig?
Jason Martinez
5:11
Hernandez is there today. I'm guessing that will continue.

Any Chance Yanks trade Headley at Deadline if Miguel Andujar continues to hit in minors?
Jason Martinez
5:14
I don't think Andujar's performance in '17 would have much do with it. If they're in contention, Headley stays. If not, Headley would likely be shopped. But since Headley is under contract thru '18, I don't think they would trade him this season unless they felt confident that Gleyber Torres or Andujar could step in next season.

Any chance that the Yankees look to add some starting pitching if they're in the race later in the year? Seems to be their only issue right now.
Jason Martinez
5:17
That rotation looks good right now and they have some good depth with Chad Green, Bryan Mitchell, etc. I also think Chance Adams gets a look at some point. With that said, I can see them at least exploring a deal for a frontline starter if they feel that they're an impact starter away from being a World Series contender. I think that's much more likely to happen in the offseason, though.

ETA for Tyler O'Neill making MLB debut?
Jason Martinez
5:19
Unless there's a significant injury to an OF or Nelson Cruz, I don't think he'll be much of a factor in '17. Maybe a September call-up. Early 2018 is more likely.

5:21
What would it take for the Braves to get Manny Machado?
Jason Martinez
5:21
I think a few more of their lower-level prospects would need to emerge as Top 100 guys. Don't think it will happen in-season, but they could be a factor next offseason with guys like Ronald Acuna and Kevin Maitan as trade chips.
Rob
5:22
Who is the top prospect due to be called up soon other than moncada that will have an impact?
Jason Martinez
5:22
I need to take a closer look at things before I can give you a good answer. My 1st "Knocking Down The Door" on MLBTR is due out on Friday, so I should have some answers in there.
5:24
By the way, "Knocking Down The Door" is my weekly piece that identifies minor leaguers who could be close to an MLB call-up.

How can the Angels fix their late inning situation? Jose Alvarez, who should be a Lefty vs. Lefty guy, is setting Bedrosian up.
Jason Martinez
5:26
I didn't think they had enough late-inning help when it was going to be Bedrosian, Street and Bailey. I don't know if there's a good enough internal option. Alex Meyer has always had that potential. Not sure if they give him another look as a reliever. He's going to make a spot start for them on Friday.

What's SF going to do in LF? I'm hoping for a Morse resurgence.
Jason Martinez
5:28
Could be a revolving door until they find the best answer. Morse is interesting, although I can't see that working out defensively. Melvin Upton Jr. would be my choice for a guy who ultimately solidifies the position and holds onto it, at least until Jarrett Parker returns.

How do you the Dodgers address their early injuries to Rich Hill, Logan Forsythe, etc. and also be able to play at a high level as the Dodgers are struggling right now.
Jason Martinez
5:29
Same as the last few years. They're one of the deepest teams in baseball, so they can usually hang in there until they're back to full health.

Does starling marte get booed by Pittsburgh fans when he comes back?
Jason Martinez
5:32
Maybe one good boo from most of the crowd during the 1st at-bat of his 1st game back. Not much after that, though.
Chris
5:35
Do the Pirates do a complete teardown if they are out of contention in July or trade the minimum pieces (Watson, Cutch), and hope marte/kang are on the team and productive in 2018. Their starting pitching is young and good. You would think they have to think they can compete in 2018, right?
Jason Martinez
5:37
Most of their core players are under control for several years so there won't be a complete teardown. If they're out of it, I can see them shopping Cutch, Freese, Hudson, Watson, Bastardo, Nicasio. Nothing major unless Cutch bounces back and is having a big season. His value would skyrocket if that were to happen. And it should already be decent.

5:37
Who finally winds up in CF for the Tiger
Jason Martinez
5:39
Not a very interesting answer to this. Probably a Tyler Collins and Mikie Mahtook platoon once J.D. Martinez is healthy. Even if they're contenders, they don't have a lot of trade chips to go out and acquire a CF.
Dave
5:42
At what point does Toronto right the season off and start shopping their players? Who would be on the block?
Jason Martinez
5:42
Any team who believed they were a legitimate playoff contender wouldn't start looking ahead to 2018 until at least early-to-mid June. There are too many examples of teams getting hot and quickly making up ground. Jays have that potential if their rotation is healthy.
5:43
If they do become sellers, I think they'd be open to discussing any player. Estrada and Donaldson would be the most discussed names, in my opinion.

5:43
how long before teams see Ervin Santana as a guy they want to trade for?
Jason Martinez
5:46
Question is not when other teams want to trade for him. I'm sure he already has plenty of interest. Question is when will the Twins decide to start trading their best players. I think they want to see how long they can hang around in playoff contention. So I woudn't expect a trade anytime soon. Maybe June.

At what point do the Red Sox give up on Pablo? He's looked pretty bad
Jason Martinez
5:50
I think he'll have a very long leash. 3 hits yesterday. Marco Hernandez would probably be next in line and he hasn't hit much. If Rafael Devers looks ready to contribute around mid-season, maybe that's a possibility. But he's in AA and only 20 yrs old. Not sure if they see him as MLB ready as Xander Bogaerts was.

5:51
What would a realistic package the Yankees would have to give up for Jose Quintana?
Jason Martinez
5:51
2 of Gleyber Torres, Jorge Mateo, Clint Frazier would be the starting point.
James Franco
5:54
Wtf is up with Buxton? He's the Reverse Mookie right now...
Jason Martinez
5:54
That's just the way it goes with a young kid who has an extremely high ceiling and extremely low floor. The Twins know what he's capable of (1.011 OPS and 9 HR last September) so they'll be patient. But it could just take longer for him to figure it out. He's only 23.
PLama
5:57
Why am I still not even close to believing in Avisail Garcia?
Jason Martinez
5:57
Because he's been a disappointment since raising everyone's expectations as a 21-yr old rookie with the Tigers. He's not this good, but it shouldn't be a surprise if he has a very good season and becomes a quality regular. He's only 25.

Jason what say you on Angels trading Trout, would it be a fair and balanced trade or should we enter it with caution how do u spin it?
