In case you don't have this bookmarked already, here's our Top 20 August Trade Candidates list ... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/08/top-20-trade-candidates-mlb-aug...
4:34
Avilan (No. 15 on the list) was traded today and Matt Harvey (No. 12 on the list) has reportedly been claimed by an unknown team (TBD if he changes teams).

4:35
Assuming Cutch gets dealt, where do you think he will end up?
Jason Martinez
4:37
STL makes sense with Ozuna/Fowler on the DL. Maybe Oakland. Maybe the Indians, although Greg Allen is doing just fine in CF and not sure if any team would bring Cutch in as a CF.
Bob
4:38
A's should get Gio Gonzalez, right?
Jason Martinez
4:38
You mean that you don't trust Edwin Jackson, Brett Anderson, Trevor Cahill and Mike Fiers to continue getting the job done?
4:39
I can't believe that's a serious response I'm giving in August about a playoff contender.
But they should get Gio. Could only help.

What do you think about the cards Postseason shots this year.
Jason Martinez
4:40
Decent. Never give up on a team with a talented roster in July. Or August, which is why the Nats still shouldn't be counted out.
John
4:41
do you think the dodgers claimed harper to block him from going elsewhere? If so which team do you think they were blocking
Jason Martinez
4:43
Yep. Blocking him from any team they could face in the playoffs. In this case, I believe there are at least 10 teams that would've had a shot if the Dodgers hadn't put in the claim.
MD Mark
4:43
Do you think the recent Nationals trades signify Robles being called up?
Jason Martinez
4:44
I think he'll be up as soon as the Triple-A season ends, if not on 9/1. Just finding his groove (8 for his last 15) after missing most of the season due to injury.

Should we have claimed Murphy and put him at first?
Jason Martinez
4:45
Yes.
4:46
Murphy could've hit .400 the rest of the way with half of his games at Coors.
Slim Brady
4:46
What does Braves rotation look like next year? Have Gausman, Folty, Newk, Teheran, Fried, Soroka, Allard, Gohara, Wright, Wilson, and possibly Ian Anderson. Gotta trade a few for a corner OF bat right?
Jason Martinez
4:49
Dealing from a position of strength might be an understatement. They also have Touki. Patrick Weigel is also a pretty good prospect who missed most of '18 recovering from TJ surgery. A trade or two should clear things up.

4:49
Where does Michael Kopech stand in regards to ROTY eligibility next year, given the timing of his call up and projected remaining starts?
Jason Martinez
4:50
He can't surpass 50 IP. Even if he averages 6 IP/start and makes 6-7 more starts, he'll maintain his '19 eligibility.
Oliver Drake
4:51
I've been LIGHTS OUT since I joined the Twins... one of the best relievers in that span, no?  Did the other four teams give up on me too soon this year?
Jason Martinez
4:53
Relief pitchers can sometimes figure things out in their late 20's and after they've been DFA'd 3-5 times. Blake Parker and Kirby Yates come to mind.
Pad Squad
4:53
How come no Padre can ever seem to hit?
Jason Martinez
4:56
My thoughts after they had been at Petco for a few years was that it was a very similar problem as Rockies pitchers were having. Ball plays differently in the home ballpark so they change their approach/confidence level drops and the struggles carry over to the road (to some extent).
4:59
With that said, the ballpark is nowhere near as pitcher-friendly as it was a few years ago. Just a bunch of young guys trying to figure things out. That's why I liked the Hosmer signing despite the high price tag. He was a big part of a Royals lineup filled with hitters who grinded out at-bats and wore out the opposing pitchers. Not big stats but a very effective/successful lineup.
Hmmm
5:00
Billy Hamilton to Cleveland??
Jason Martinez
5:03
I don't think Hamilton would gets thru waivers. Very affordable and a perfect fit on a playoff contender off the bench. He has a .333 OBP and 18 SB in his last 200 PAs. In regards to the Indians, Greg Allen is doing the job right now. He has a .356 OBP and 7 SB in his last 92 PAs.
Boach the Coach
5:03
When do I retire, and will I make the HOF?
Jason Martinez
5:05
I'd guess he'll give it 2-3 years in hopes of one more championship run. YES he's a Hall of Famer. 3 WS titles and 4 WS appearances. And he should have 2000 wins after next season.
Theo
5:05
Should I spend more money on a big FA starter this off season or consider Yu to be a solid option?
Jason Martinez
5:06
Never spend a lot of $ on pitchers.

Arrogance or confirmation bias - every writer who pre-picked Nats is still hanging on for dear life with the “roster is loaded with talent” message.  Are baseball writers this afraid of being wrong or just more arrogant than the average fan?  No offense by the way
Jason Martinez
5:12
None taken. I'm wrong a lot. Baseball is not easy to predict, which is a big reason why I enjoy it so much. One thing I know is that it's a long season and a team with a really good roster, as long as they're within reach of a playoff spot, can quickly move to the top of the division if they get hot in August/September. I spent most of last season saying the Cubs would be fine despite a most underwhelming performance until around mid-August.
Kishan
5:12
Do you think the dbacks could actually win the division
Jason Martinez
5:14
Yeah. Where is their weakness?  Aside from Robbie Ray's struggles, it's a very talented/deep team right now.
Zulander
5:14
Which Tigers get call up?
Jason Martinez
5:17
OF Christin Stewart will get the call. He had an OPS around .950 in April/May and he's struggled since.  SP Matt Hall should also get a look. Dominant as a reliever in AA and in 7 starts since a promotion to AAA.
Myers at 3rd
5:19
This looks like it may work.  Do we get to see a Myers, Tatis, Urias, Hosmer infield next year?  Maybe Mejia mixing in at 3rd when he isn't backing up Hedgey behind the dish (pushing Myers to the OF)?
Jason Martinez
5:21
Nah. I doubt Myers stays at 3B beyond this season. My guess for April '19 is Hosmer, Urias, Galvis (I think he'll be re-signed to 1-year deal for under $6MM) and 3B is TBD. I'd expect Tatis around mid-season with Galvis sticking around to mentor.
