Bart at C next season with Gerald moving to 1st?
AvatarJason Martinez

Bart might be the closest-to-MLB-ready catcher taken in the draft in a while. Probably since Posey. But even Posey spent a full season in the minors after he was drafted in '08. He was a September call-up in '09. I'd guess that's the best-case scenario for Bart with '20 more likely.

Is it time for us to spend big in the upcoming off season? Or do we wait until we know more about Moncada, Eloy, Kopech, Giolito dc?

They can spend big $ and I think they're open to spending big $. They also have a good enough farm system to acquire an impact player or two. Should be a very interesting offseason.

Is all angels pitching injury a coincidence
AvatarJason Martinez
5:29
Most of those guys could be considered "injury-prone" or there were at least injury concerns since they were returning from injury. Still difficult to know who will or won't stay healthy.  I thought they needed to bring in a starter who was a good bet for 180+ innings.

Do you see the Reds dealing Sinzel for starting pitching? Riley has some pop but strikes out a lot.

If they don't trade him, it's because his value is down after barely playing this season. And if that's the case, it probably makes sense to just hold on to him since Scooter can leave as a free agent after '19.

Should I be interested in McCutchen or would I be better off trying for a pure CF ?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:36
They have Nick Martini and Ramon Laureano in the starting OF right now and Mark Canha has also played a lot of CF. So there's room. I can see Cutch fitting into that LF/CF mix somehow, even if it's 1-2 starts/week in CF and 3-4 in LF.

Hi, so Andrew McCutchen just cleared revocable trade waivers. What exactly does that mean?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:39
He cleared waivers without being claimed so now they can trade him to any team. If he were claimed, they would have either let him go as a waiver claim, work out a trade with that team or pull him back off waivers.

Is Anderson Espinosa an after thought at this point? He was so exciting before the injury.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:41
Nope. Pitchers recovering from TJ surgery are always forgotten about since they're out of action for close to 18 months. But just take a look at Chris Paddack to see how quickly a good pitcher can put themselves back on the prospect radar. Espinoza was considered one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and he'll be entering his age-21 season in '19.

Rumors that Cutch cleared waivers. Why didn't Cleveland take him?
AvatarJason Martinez

I'm assuming they wouldn't want to play him in CF so they'll stick with Greg Allen, who has been good as of late. And Melky Cabrera has 14 hits in his last 33 at-bats with 5 HR. I'm thinking that has something to do with not adding him as an upgrade in RF.

Am I a Hall of Famer to you, or are you in the "Keith Law" (also known as "dummy head") camp that say I do not belong? Even if you're a dummy head, it's OK, you're nicer than Keith Law anyway.
AvatarJason Martinez

Yes, he belongs. There are 2 closers from that era (1995ish-2005ish) who are in the Hall of Fame and maybe one other (Billy Wagner) who could get in. All had 13-15 years of being a top closer in the game. I don't think anyone else is even close. Not many relief pitchers who can even string together 3-4 good/healthy seasons in a row. Closers get paid a lot of $ because teams with 9th inning problems are usually disasters. They are obviously an integral part of a roster and Hoffman/Rivera were 2 of the best ever.

I'm Adam Jones. I'm the guy that can help these young guys. I've been the backbone of this team for almost 10 years. I want to stay in Baltimore and love my adopted city. I'd happily sign at an affordable price. I've got alot of games left in me and I can be a real asset to my team. Why am I underappreciated?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:55
I don't think his leadership/clubhouse presence are under-appreciated. But he'll be entering his age-33 season as a corner OF (probably) who has put up league average numbers for a few seasons. Not a huge market, although I'd love him in SD for a year.

When is an MLB transaction OFFICIALLY a transaction and what is your source for Roster Resource?  I’m referring to DL, promotion, demotion... that kind of thing.
AvatarJason Martinez

I get 95% from writers/reporters on Twitter and then I use the MLB transaction page to make sure I didn't miss any minor moves. Offseason is a bit trickier because some signings/trades are pending physicals, but I've only had to undo something 2-3 times in 10 years (Fowler to Orioles and another move involving the Orioles, I think).

Gotta run. Thanks for chatting! Same time and place next week.
