Pretty close. If Machado had 2 years of club control and the Phillies thought it would put them over the top, I think they'd trade him. But Manny only has 1 year left and the Phillies aren't one player away just yet. Not sure I can see them trading Sixto in any scenario this offseason.

Are Padres serious about slowing their rebuild and begin spending no e.g. on talent? Or is this just a ticket grab again.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:25
Rebuild is pretty much over. It doesn't mean they're going to compete in '18 or that they're holding on to a player with value who only has 2 years of club control left (Brad Hand). But they've assembled one of the best farm systems in baseball and have cleared their payroll. That was the main part of the rebuild. Any moves now would be focused on '19 and beyond. So signing or acquiring younger impact players who are under club control for several years makes sense.

Who do you suspect is on their way to Detroit for Kinsler?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:27
If I was an Angels fan, I'd be disappointed if it was any of our top 5 prospects (Barria, Maitan, Jones, Marsh, Adell). I don't think they would've had to give up either of those guys, but the farm system is pretty thin outside of that group. So we'll see.

What St Louis OF would SF be interested in.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:30
They'd like to add a CF so Span can move to LF. So maybe Grichuk or Bader. But I don't know if the Giants view either of those guys as better options than Steven Duggar. If they're going to add a player, I think they want an established veteran (Cutch, Lorenzo Cain, Carlos Gomez).

If the market on Moustakas drops significantly can you see the Mets get interested
AvatarJason Martinez
5:32
Yes. I don't think it would drop far enough for the Mets, though.

Do you think that signing Brandon Morrow means that the Cubs have moved on from Wade Davis?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:35
Not at all. With Morrow's injury history, I doubt they signed him to be their closer without adding another late-inning option. Even if it's not Davis, I don't think they're done adding someone who could close or share closing duties with Morrow.

Why does it appear the D'backs are not trying to build for a strong run next year? The payroll is low and they are thinking of trading away SP. Trade talks appear as if they are not in a 'win-now' mentality, but build for the short-intermediate term, correct?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:39
Makes sense to shop one of their starters to clear some salary and take advantage of a market where pretty much every team is looking to add starting pitching. Trading Greinke would allow them to re-sign JDM, I believe. Even if you consider the payroll to be "low", they aren't expected to add much more to it.

What goes to STL from OAK in exchange for Piscotty?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:41
I have a feeling that it will be prospects that they can include in a bigger deal (Donaldson, Machado, Archer). They just traded away 2 of their best prospects (Alcantara/Sierra) so they need to reload a bit.

IF Atlanta was to say trade for Machado, who would be your guess going back to Baltimore?!
AvatarJason Martinez
5:45
I'd guess 3 of their top 6 pitching prospects (Kolby Allard, Mike Soroka, Fried, Kyle Wright, Ian Anderson, Joey Wentz). Not sure if Braves want to do that now. They didn't take the next step in '17 so I doubt they believe that they're one bat away from being a serious contender.

Cease, Rutherford and Reynaldo Lopez for Machado and a negotiating window. Who hangs up?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:51
I don't think that's enough for one year of Machado and I also don't think Machado is in a hurry to sign a long-term extension. And I don't really see any team negotiating a $300MM+ contract extension with Machado in a 3-5 day window.

Does Jason werth get an mlb deal if so with who
AvatarJason Martinez
5:53
Sure. I think he can find a bench job with a contender. Maybe a starting job with the White Sox or Marlins. Can't see him making much $, though.

Do you think the Cole to yankees deal gets done?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:54
Yankees have the prospects and the need. That would be my pick.

Who is the starting 1st baseman in Cleveland on opening day
AvatarJason Martinez

I'll go with Yonder Alonso.

Can you explain the whole negotiating window thing? Is the deal contingent on the player signing an extension?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:58
Correct. Manny for 1 year isn't nearly as valuable as Manny + a few days to negotiate a contract extension. If no extension is agreed upon, no trade. It's been done before.

I saw a Hand/Happ rumor with the Cubs. Is that worthy of a straight up deal or does one team have to add something? Would like to get Montgomery back as a Padres fan along with Happ. Would also like to send Renfroe, Josh Naylor and a young arm for Odorizzi.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:59
Padres would have to balance that out somehow for 6 years of Happ. Happ/Montgomery for Hand and prospects would be interesting.
6:00
I think Renfroe could very well be on the trade block if the Padres sign a 1B and move Myers to the OF. However, a Odorizzi only has 2 years of club control. I think any SP targets would need to have at least 3 years.

Are any of you guys on location in Orlando?

Tim is in Orlando. Not sure if Jeff and Steve are there. I'm at home in San Diego. Went to DC last year and I'll be in Vegas next year.

2 prospects. Not reported yet.

Any chance Giants get JDM? And who would we have to give up?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:05
He's a free agent so they just have to pay him a whole lot of $$$. Maybe in the $125-150MM range. They have a few big contracts coming off of their payroll next offseason so maybe they can fit him in there ... https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-san-francisco-giants-info/

I’m a Cards fan and saw that Alex Colome followed multiple cardinal related accounts last night. Is this a sign that they are close to dealing for him and are finishing up the smaller details, or should it just be considered water under the bridge?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:07
I don't think he would know one way or another if the Rays were close to trading him. But I think it's a sign that he would be really happy if it happened.

Would Miami demand Acuna back from Atlanta in a possible Yelich trade?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:09
Probably in the opening bid, but they'd have to settle for less. The Braves have the prospects to get something done without including Acuña, but the Marlins might not want to trade Yelich to a division rival.
