Do you expect STL to move Fowler after a horrible 2018?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:19
They can't move him after a horrible 2018. They'll give him a chance to turn things around. He's been a good player for a long time who had one bad year. Good bounce-back candidate.
Zaidi
5:20
Shouldn’t I be looking at bounce back candidates to potentially flip at deadline as well?  Shelby Miller/Dozier types?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:22
Yep. But those guys will probably sign later because I'm sure their agents are trying to sell teams on pre-2016 production for Shelby Miller and pre-2018 for Dozier. Teams will probably wait them out until price drops.

Avi Garcia to the Braves.  Why is this not a good idea?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:24
I think the Braves are in a position to add a RF who was much better last season. Not sure they want to add a guy who they only hope will bounce back. Could happen, though, if the price is too high on the others and they like Avisail.

What can we get in a trade involving Swihart?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:25
Not much. Teams know he's the odd man out in Boston and he didn't hit last season. Some upside so I think there will be interest.

How are you projecting the left side of the Yankees’ infield?  Is it manny or bust?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:29
I think someone like Freddy Galvis or Jose Iglesias factor in as a stop-gap for Didi. If Manny signs, that could make it more likely that Miguel Andujar is traded. If Manny doesn't sign, Galvis or Iglesias could play SS until Didi is ready.

Is there any way the Giants are competitive next year.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:32
Sure, but chances aren't great. Rotation isn't bad with MadBum-Samardzija-Suarez-Dereck Rodriguez and Bullpen is fine with Smith-Melancon-Watson-Dyson. Lineup still has Posey-Crawford-Belt-Longoria-Panik. Depth isn't good and they do not appear to have much $ to spend or prospects close to helping out.
5:34
So they need a lot of things to go right. Their best players would have to avoid injuries and their young players (Duggar, Shaw, Tyler Beede, Shaun Anderson) would have to make an impact much faster than expected.
Dipito
5:34
Should I trade or keep Haniger. I'm stuck in a hard place here.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:35
They're doing the right thing. They're listening to offers but the price is really, really high. They have all the leverage.

What chance is keston hiura in brewers lineup by allstar break
AvatarJason Martinez
5:39
Depends on who they get as their stop-gap and how he performs in the upper minors. Lots of hype right now but only 73 games of experience in Double-A. Close-to-MLB ready bat. But needs to crush the ball in AAA if he's gonna get such a quick call to the Majors.

I know Homer Bailey was signed through '20 (with a '21 buyout), but why did the Reds give up Downs and Gray? Did they not like these prospects? It seems like a steep price to pay to rid themselves of Bailey's contract.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:40
It was more than just getting rid of Bailey's contract. Puig and Wood are really good players. And Kemp will attract fan interest and, if they're lucky, continue to hit as he did in '18.
Josh
5:41
If you were the Reds, would you rather move Senzel or Trammel as the centerpiece of a Kluber trade?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:42
I'd move the younger player (Trammell) because adding Kluber would increase the urgency to win in '19 and Senzel can help right away.
Les Gomez
5:43
Does Wil Myers make sense for the Mets?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:44
Not really. Their need is in CF. Corner OF is already crowded with Nimmo, Conforto and Cespedes (when healthy).
AJ Ellis
5:44
Does AJ Ellis make sense for the Dodgers?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:45
If Barnes hit in '18 and was the clear favorite for 70% of the playing time, I'd say yes. But that's not the case so I'm expecting them to add a catcher who can take on at least 40% of the starts.
Tom
5:47
Starling Marte or David Peralta to NYM?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:49
Marte would be a great fit. Signed for 3 more seasons. But not sure the Mets have the prospects to get that done and not sure the Pirates are willing to sell off one of their best players.
Tom
5:50
What do you see the Nats doing at 2B?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:50
I think they sign Jed Lowrie or Asdrubal Cabrera. They need a lefty bat with some pop.

5:51
How about Cody Allen to the Mets for 7th inning? Reunite him with Callaway?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:52
Sure, as long as he'll take a 7th inning guy contract ($5-6MM/season). Mets might prefer a lefty.
BSum
5:54
Cody Allen seems a better fit for the Braves than the Mets, correct?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:55
I'd be worried about giving him closer $ and a closer's job. He's averaged 72 regular season appearances since 2013, not including post-season. Lots of mileage on that arm. It showed in 2018.
Al Avila
5:56
What does a Castellanos trade to the Braves net me?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:56
Maybe their 10th best prospect but it would be your 3rd-5th best prospect.
5:57
Clarification: The Braves' 10th best prospect would probably be 3rd-5th in the Tigers' system.
RoxTalks
5:57
Even though their bullpen investments were largely bust last year, could the Rox retain Ottavino, even with his big market?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:58
They should, but probably can't take the risk because of Dunn, Shaw, McGee and Davis all making so much $$$. And only Davis was good last season, although shaky at times.
Seebs

Alonso, Hiura and Senzel. Which gets to the majors first this year?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:01
I'd guess Alonso by early May. As things stand, Senzel has an outside shot to be Cincy's primary CF. But he'll have a much better chance if he's traded. Can't see the Reds no adding a CF before Spring Training.
