Are the Orioles the worst team you've ever seen?

I haven't seen them, but probably not. I've been a Padres fan since 1981 and they've had a few really bad teams. The '93 team lost 101 games after the fire sale. But the Orioles, based on the numbers, are bad all around. Can't hit. Can't pitch. Can't field.

Wha could Oakland possibly sell? And what do you think of Matt Chapman and his gold glove chances?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:22
Jed Lowrie and Trevor Cahill, if he can return from his latest injury by early July and continue to pitch effectively thru late July. Blake Treinen's value might be peaking so I would think they'll at least listen on him.
5:23
Chapman's chances appear to be strong. Donaldson, Beltre have missed time with injuries. Longoria is in the NL now. Machado is at SS.

Is Max Muncy this years Chris Taylor?

5:25
Seems that way. Dodgers strike again! I wonder if even they thought he could be anywhere near this good.

Who are some closers in waiting, come the trade deadline besides Crick and Yates?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:28
Jace Fry could get a shot with the White Sox. With Nate Jones going on the DL and Soria pitching good enough to draw trade interest, I did my research today. Fry is not just a LOOGY as I thought might be the case. Lefties are 2-for-35 against him, but right-handed batters can't hit him either (6-for-29). They also have Bruce Rondon, who used to throw 100+MPH and is having a good season.

Does Marco Gonzalez have a chance to be an all star this year.

I think he's worth discussing, but not sure 2 guys from that same rotation will be picked. Paxton will get in.

Freddie Freeman is the NL mvp so far?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:34
Yes. He would be my pick. And my Roster Resource Power Rankings like him, too. He's currently No. 3 behind Trout and Jose Ramirez.

Was Francisco Mejia called up to showcase him for a potential trade for relief help?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:35
No, just insurance for one day with Roberto Perez unavailable.
5:36
I don't think they need to showcase him. He's struggled at the plate in AAA, but still a legit Top 50 prospect in baseball. His value is high.

If Marcus Stroman is healthy at the deadline, do you see him as a possible trade candidate?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:37
Yes. Question is how much teams would value him after missing time with shoulder injury. Asking price will be high and it should be. If he can come back healthy by end of this month, I think there's a chance he could be a trade chip by end of July.

Another check in on Hanley. Seems like it's only crickets so far. Any rumors?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:39
Nope and no surprise. Market for 1B/DH hasn't been good in last 1-2 years. Not a good time for A-Gon and Hanley to be free agents.

Lunhow couldn’t seriously entertain a trade proposal of Tucker or Whitley for Hand? I know you have to give up something good to get something good, but that just seems a little steep.
AvatarJason Martinez
5:43
I agree. But I'm pretty confident that Preller will ask for one. And I think Luhnow will probably say no.

Do you think PED use is more prevalent than what most assume in MLB and MiLB?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:48
I assume that players are always looking for a way to get stronger, faster, healthier, etc. and there are always people trying to figure out a way to mask illegal substances. A lot of $$$ involved. Lots of MiLB players who are on the verge of being out of the game. Some players are willing to take the risk.

Seems silly to me to trade for moustakas when the Braves have Riley coming as early as late this year early next year don’t you think???
AvatarJason Martinez
5:50
Moustakas has a mutual option in '19 and will probably opt out so he's not blocking Riley in '19. And Riley isn't really proving that he can help in '18. Lots of Ks in AAA.
5:51
OK, gotta run. Same time and place next Wednesday!
