Jason Martinez

Welcome! FYI - 40 days until the trade deadline and 7 teams have reached or are close to reaching "no chance to contend" mode ... ATL, MIA, NYM, PHI, SD, SF, CIN.  Let's chat.

Will the mets ever call Amed up
Jason Martinez
4:39
I think they're getting to the point where they can either just say it's not worth it to start his MLB service time. Or maybe he can jumpstart them and help get them within 5-6 games of a WildCard by 7/31.

Would Tapia, Macmahon and Rodgers be enough to get Quintana from the Sox?
Jason Martinez
4:40
I think so and I also don't think the Rockies would trade Tapia AND Rodgers. Maybe not Rodgers under any circumstances. Potential No. 1 prospect in baseball in '18.
Cole
4:41
Do you think a package of Kyle Tucker and Forest Whitley is enough to get Sonny Gray and his 2+ years of remaining control?
Jason Martinez
4:42
Probably could get it done, although the A's would be selling low. I think the A's are hoping he can string together 4-5 quality starts, though, and hope for a bit more.

What would it take for the Ms to move Gallardo in a trade? Or is DFA the only way they'll be able to get rid of him?
Jason Martinez
4:44
No team will want to pay him much more than prorated minimum. M's are stuck with paying him. It's worth a shot to stash him in the 'pen in case they need him to make some starts down the stretch. Wouldn't surprise me if he's DFA'd soon.

How much longer till Cashman trades for Matt Adams?
Jason Martinez
4:47
I don't think the Braves will trade him until Freeman returns or if they fall a few more games behind a WildCard spot. Enough time left to keep hopes on them gaining a few games and making a run once Freeman returns. I'm sure Cashman will at least ask in the meantime.

Where are the Phillies going? Oh my God! Give me some hope Jason!
Jason Martinez
4:48
Plan was always to compete in 2018 or 2019. Any success this season would've been a bonus. Hopefully they'll start bringing up some of their best prospects in the next month or two to get some MLB experience.

Do I get a "Will Smith" type a trade for Brad Hand? And if so what team and what prospects?
Jason Martinez
4:51
I think they'll do slightly better. Either one really good prospect (maybe in the top 75-100 range) or 2 good prospects. Smith had injury concerns at the time of the deal. Came back quick from knee surgery. Hand is healthy now and seems pretty durable.
Henry
4:51
Surprised to see Fisher get sent down?
Jason Martinez
4:53
Not really. There have been a few examples of prospects getting a quick taste of the Big Leagues before a permanent call-up later in the season. They have such a big lead in the division that it makes sense to send him to the minors and let him keep working on his game. He'll be back. Way better option than Aoki.

4:54
Should the Cubs trade arrieta if they are out of it by the deadline? He is definitely gonna sign with another team this offseason
Jason Martinez
4:55
Yes, but there's no way they'd be out of it. No team in that division is good enough to run away from the Cubs.
David
4:56
What are your thoughts on Freddie Freeman moving to 3rd?
Jason Martinez
4:59
I don't think he'd embarrass himself, but it would be below-average defense at a very important position and I'd be worried about higher chance of injury. When I think of a 1B moving to 3B, I recall Phil Nevin awkwardly diving for a ball and hurting his shoulder when the Padres played him there way back in the early 2000s.

Will Angels be buyers or sellers at the deadline?
Jason Martinez
5:01
Buyers. Only 1.5 out of WildCard spot and they have the potential to have a very strong bullpen if Street and Norris pitch well when they return from DL. They just don't have a lot of trade chips to add a SP.
Chase
5:02
What happened with Fister?
Jason Martinez
5:03
He had an opt out today or tomorrow, I believe. He wasn't going to be called up so they released him. I guess he wasn't impressive in his 3 AAA starts. His numbers were OK ... 15.2 IP, 7 ER, 16 H, 5 BB, 10 K.

5:03
Wouldn't it be ironic if i got traded back to the Padres for Solarte?
Jason Martinez
5:04
It would be and Solarte (when he returns from DL) would be a great fit with that team. No chance Padres take on any of that contract, though. Plus, they'd rather play their young guys than add another veteran.
Jason
5:05
If the Mets turn into sellers, who do you expect to see them trade away?
Jason Martinez
5:06
Definitely all the free agents to be .... Walker, Granderson, Bruce, Salas, Jose Reyes, A. Reed, Duda, Rene Rivera ... and probably will listen on guys like Asdrubal, Blevins, Harvey.

Frazier to Bsox? What can WSox get?
Jason Martinez
5:09
I think the Sox would have to settle for low-level prospect(s) with high upside. I don't think they'd trade any of their best guys (Groome, Devers) for a rental. If it's an upper level, close-to-MLB guy, maybe Brian Johnson or Henry Owens. Their value has dipped, but still pretty good back-of-rotation options.
Freddie
5:10
I played 3rd in college and my defense was pretty good.
Jason Martinez
5:11
So was Phil Nevin.
5:12
Phil Nevin could mash, by the way. Just wasn't a 3B at that point of his career. Freeman does seem more athletic. Just don't know if the Braves would really go through with that plan.
Tyson
5:14
Who will cosart get traded to?
Jason Martinez
5:14
I think KC and Minnesota should have interest. Maybe Baltimore.
Trev
5:15
Is Clayton Richard a trade chip for the Padres?
Jason Martinez
5:15
Definitely. Only 1 or 2 really bad starts all season. Pitching deep into games. Usually allows 3 ER or less.
Austin
5:16
Should one of my teammates have plunked Russo?
Jason Martinez
5:17
Nope. I was glad to see Andy Green pretty much call out when an unwritten rule is dumb. It was an illegal slide but Rizzo wasn't trying to hurt Hedges.
