By TBD, I'm saying that their future 3B isn't on the roster right now. Could be a trade acquisition. Their farm system is loaded and I expect them to make at least one very significant trade in the next 2 years.

What is your opinion of Pablo Lopez an under the radar starter for the Marlins ?  He's unscored upon in AA through his first 4 starts.

Also on my preliminary list for "Knocking Down The Door". Tough call because he's in AA, but he's already on the 40-man roster so he could get priority over AAA guys like Zac Gallen and Ben Meyer.

If Riley is promoted do the braves keep Bautista as a 4th OF or bat off bench? We
AvatarJason Martinez

Yes, I think that's the plan even if Riley isn't called up. When Dansby returns, Camargo and Flaherty would share time at 3B with Bautista, who could also get an occasional start in the OF. But he's a good bat to have on the bench on a contending team.

Is Jack Flaherty up for good?

As long as he's pitching well, he should stay. Wainwright's elbow hurts so I wouldn't count on him. Biggest question will come once Alex Reyes is ready, which could be in a few weeks.

What’s a worse case of service time manipulation, waiting 2 weeks before calling someone up (Acuna) or sending them down after each start (Barria)?
AvatarJason Martinez

Barria isn't losing any service time as long as he returns within 20 days. That's more taking advantage of the roster rules to give them an extra reliever. Especially helpful on a team that uses 6 starters. Both are smart moves. I'd want 7 yrs of control for my best players instead of 6.

Do you see the twins making a trade at catcher sometime before the trade deadline? Who do you guess?

Bringing Wilson Ramos would make sense. Lucroy will be available if the A's fall out of contention. And they probably have the prospects to get Realmuto.

Is it simply a knee jerk reaction to think that the Mets may be better off trading Degrom, Syndergaard and any other valuable assets, to try and reload the Farm and do a rebuild, considering the success some Teams such as the Braves and Yankees have been experiencing? I know some luck is involved but both of those Teams rebuilds are now way ahead of schedule. The Mets have some nice Prospects that are 2 - 3 years away. with the possible haul they could get for deGrom, Syndergaard, Cespedes, and Rosario (for example), they could be more competitive in 2 years than they are today.  Your opinion please.

Staff aces with years of club control could bring back a haul so it has to be considered. But it's hard to find a team willing to pay that kind of haul, especially in the middle of the season. It's still early. They could be back in it by July.

Is Dane Dunning on a trajectory for a big league debut in 2018?
AvatarJason Martinez

Don't think so. I think we'll see Kopech at some point. But Dunning is likely to debut in '19.

What are your thoughts on how meaningful strikeouts are to hitters?  It seemed, at one point, they were considered by analytic experts as ‘no better/worse than any other type of out’ but are now seen as a key predictor of future performance.  Is it possible to be both?

It's not always the case, but a MiLB hitter with a poor BB/K rate (even if they have a high BA, power numbers) is an indication that they'll have a hard time making adjustments in the Majors. So when a guy like Vlad Jr. has more BBs than Ks and is hitting close to .400 with power, you figure he'll be just fine in the Majors right now.
5:46
Some players do get better/more disciplined when in the Majors, but it's a long season and it's harder for some guys to break out of a slump. I watch the Padres on a regular basis. There is a difference between Franchy Cordero and Christian Villanueva, neither who had a good BB/K rate in the minors. Both have had to make adjustments after strong starts. Franchy is taking a lot more walks and going the opposite way. Villaneuva went 2 weeks without a hit after pitchers figured out how to pitch to him.

OK, gotta run. Thanks for stopping by! Same time and place next week.
