But on a somewhat related note, another one of the best (and oft-injured) former pitching prospects out of Mexico is off to a really good start with the Dodgers' AAA team. Manny Bañuelos (remember him?) has a 2.16 ERA with 4 BB/29 K in 25 IP. Still only 27 yrs old.

Kyle Tucker will be the starting LF or RF when he gets the call. Marisnick is the 4th OF who plays mostly vs LHP so not directly related.

He went 3-for-3 with 2 HR on the day I wrote that Vlad Jr. was "Knocking Down The Door" and mentioned Morales' 0-for-21 slump as being related to Vlad's arrival. That is no coincidence!

I don't think he'll be released in any case. Probably a DL stint. I'd call it a "phantom DL" stint, but something always hurts if you're a professional athlete. So

There were injury concerns with every one of their starters (Richards, Ohtani, Skaggs, Heaney, JC Ramirez, Tropeano, Shoemaker) so it shouldn't be a surprise. I thought they needed to add a healthy/durable SP this offseason and they didn't. One of the free agents who is almost always good for 30+ starts (Cashner, Lynn, Cobb) would've helped.

How do the Yankees go about filling Montgomery’s spot in the rotation? Trade seems unlikely this early in the season but don’t see an obvious internal fix. Thoughts?

It's early enough that they can give 1-2 guys a chance to string together a few good starts. Sounds like Domingo German will get a shot. If not, I think they can probably make a trade for a guy like Tyson Ross or Doug Fister before mid-season.

What is your honest assessment of the giants? I feel like you are the only writer that gives them any kind of credit at all. Steve said yesterday that he still feels they are the 4th best team in the division.

I've been saying that they could be scary if they can keep their heads above water until MadBum returns. But now they've lost Panik and Cueto for an extended period of time. I have less faith now, but still wouldn't completely write them off. Dodgers lost Seager and Dbacks have lost Taijuan Walker (and Ray, temporarily).

Scooter's shoulder is hurting and Senzel is heating up (finally). 8 hits in last 19 with 2 HR. Maybe we'll see him this month.

Funny how quickly things change in baseball. Last week, I said that his chance to get called up in the 1st half was gone because of Suarez's quicker-than-expected return and because he wasn't hitting.

Cam blew his chance when he blew the save last night. Hard to predict what Scioscia does, but he seems to trust Justin Anderson a lot. Throws 98MPH and hasn't given up a run this season.

Um... have you seen Cashner, Lynn and Cobbs starts this year? Plus, each has as much injury history and the list of angels starters you put. None of those three makes the angels better

Cashner has at least 26 starts in 4 of last 5 seasons and Lynn was always a 30+ starts guy before TJ surgery. It's early. Can't judge any of them on one month. All I know is that I don't trust any of the Angels' starters to give them 25+ starts. That will not translate to success.

Hand, Herrera, Iglesias are going to the be the top closers available. Herrera will cost the least since he's a rental. I think Hand is their best fit. They have the farm system talent to get a deal done.
