One big-name free agent (Donaldson) off the board! Hall of Fame voting has started. Non-Tender deadline is on Friday. Lots of fun trade rumors swirling around. The good thing about liking baseball so much is that I'm never bored. It never stops.

Are you buying the Mets Mariners smoke ?
Jason Martinez
4:35
There is no way that Jerry Dipoto hasn't talked to Van Wagenen to get a feel for how willing he is to deal with him. Probably earlier in the process than it would seem from the rumors. But there are some potential fits, especially if the Mets are willing to take on Cano's contract.

Should the braves trade for Nick Castellanos?
Jason Martinez
4:37
Nah. They can't count on him improving defensively. This season is too important to take that chance. Even if some think he can get better, it's too risky.

deegordon/chatwood swap fair?
Jason Martinez
4:39
Nope. Gordon is a productive player. Plays every day. Plus speed. Versatile. He's hit .300+ multiple times. A bit overpaid, but not a bad contract swap candidate. Chatwood is a month or two from being released if he doesn't turn it around.

Why would the Phillies want Goldschmidt when it would mean putting Hoskins back in LF?
Jason Martinez
4:41
I know why they'd want Goldschmidt. But unless they plan on trading Hoskins and Santana, it doesn't make much sense at all. I assume they've learned their lesson. Defense is important.
Astros

Jtr for cionel Perez Kyle tucker and Jake marisnkck
Jason Martinez
4:43
Sure. Sounds like Tucker or Whitley will have to headline the deal. Pretty sure the Astros would trade any other prospects in the deal. Marlins shouldn't back down.

Hi Jason. Happy Holidays, What do the Yankees have to do to get Kluber? Did Cashman talk to them, did I miss something?
Jason Martinez
4:47
I'm sure the Indians are discussing Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer and even Danny Salazar with several teams. Yankees traded away one of their best chips (Justus Sheffield) and it might take their next best prospect (Florial) to get another frontline starter.
4:48
Indians would really have to like Miguel Andujar because that would probably be the Yankees' other best bet to headline a deal. They have some really good secondary pieces (Clint Frazier, Greg Bird, Jonathan Loaisiga), but need a really good centerpiece.

4:48
Avi Garcia to Braves for one of Atlanta's young arms--realistic possibility?
Jason Martinez
4:51
Don't think they'd have to trade any good prospect. Avisail might not even get tendered a contract by the White Sox. Good bounce-back candidate but, as I mentioned in my answer to the Castellanos question, the Braves don't need to take big risks. They are a really good team that wants to be a WS contender so finding a more reliable option to take them to the next level would be ideal.
4:52
With that said, if they exhaust many of their resources on pitching—for example, trade multiple elite prospects for a frontline SP and give a big contract to a closer—maybe they'd be more likely to go after a cheaper option with some concerns but significant upside.

Is Greg Bird a good baseball player?
Jason Martinez
4:53
Probably one of the best 500 baseball players on the planet. That's good, right?
4:55
There's being good at baseball. Then there's being good at baseball consistently for 162 games. Then there's being good at baseball consistently for multiple years. Bird is still in that first category. To be determined whether he can get beyond that.
Matt Klentak
4:55
Herrera, Sir Anthony, Efflin and Medina for Bauer? Who says no?
Jason Martinez
4:57
I don't hate that at all, especially if the Phillies can sign a closer and a CF (Pollock).

1. Sonny Gray 2. Gio Gonzalez 3. Trevor Cahill 4. Mike Fiers 5. Daniel Mengden

Jesus Luzardo could help by June 1st. That dude is good.

Hi Jason what kind of package would the Red Sox have to give up to get Edwin Diaz and do you think they would have to take Robinson Cano.
Jason Martinez
5:04
Yeah, I think they would have to take on Cano. If Diaz is available, their will be many suitors. And the Red Sox's farm system won't be as good as many of them.

5:05
Do you think the brewers will sign Corbin?
Jason Martinez
5:07
If he leaves NY without signing, they probably have a decent chance. But I have a feeling that the Yankees will sign him before he visits another team.
A.J. Preller
5:07
Do you think I actually pull of Syndergaard? Is it possible to keep Tatis/Gore/Paddack/Mejia/Urias and still get him?
Jason Martinez
5:11
Best offer without those guys probably looks something like this ... Adrian Morejon, Michel Baez, Logan Allen and either Austin Hedges or Mejia.
5:12
Not sure that's enough for 3 years of Syndergaard. And it's a really strong offer.

Farhan Zaidi has been on the job a couple of weeks now and nothing!   Moving players to protect for the rule 5 draft anyone could do in the front office.  What gives?!
Jason Martinez
5:16
No one has really done anything yet (except for Dipoto, of course). It's early. Zaidi knows what he's doing. Trust me. The reality is that he'll have a tough time turning that team into a winner in '19. Better off taking a step back, trading MadBum and give Zaidi a chance to start building his type of team.

I'm loving some of the people coming to the Mets, especially Baird and Guttridge. How do you feel this could help, both in short and long term?
Jason Martinez
5:18
Love it. I assume it will be a challenging transition for Van Wagenen so it makes sense to surround himself with as much experience, expertise as possible.
5:20
As opposed to getting a job you've never done before and surrounding yourself with a bunch of other people with no experience/expertise because you think you're smarter than everyone. Or because "you think your gut tells you more than anyone else's brain" or something like that.

Who’s the best 8th inning set up guy for the Dodgers to trade for?
