Edwin Diaz or Jose Leclerc would be perfect. But costly. Not sure they can pull off something like that.
5:24
Realistically, I think they'll add a reliable/experienced guy via free agency. Maybe Andrew Miller. Zach Britton, Jeurys Familia or Kelvin Herrera would be good fits if they don't land closer jobs.

What teams do you expect to make the biggest splash this offseason?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:27
Aside from the obvious ones (Philly, NYY)? I think the Angels need to do something big, only because Trout is only under contract for 2 more years. White Sox, Twins and A's are all in great shape payroll-wise. Padres got 2-3 big moves in them before '20 and I think they're willing to do something this offseason.

Who is the best prospect that could be on the move this offseason?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:33
I think the Astros end up trading Kyle Tucker or Forrest Whitley. Maybe the Reds trade Nick Senzel. Tatis Jr. is supposedly "untouchable", but I think the Padres would trade him in the right deal. Maybe a Syndergaard trade expands to a blockbuster-type deal.

Can the Cards pull off trade for Bumgardner
AvatarJason Martinez
5:35
Yes. MadBum has only 1 years left and not a sure thing to be as dominant as he was a couple years ago. A lot of teams can afford him. Bidding war can bump up his price, but it's not going to be out of the Cardinals' range. They have a good farm system and a lot of good close-to-MLB-ready pitching.

Donaldson .280 38 Hr 113 RBI if healthy how far off am I?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:41
That's best-case right there. He's 32 and has missed a lot of time over the past 2 seasons. Having Johan Camargo in the super-utility role will allow the Braves to rest Donaldson 1-2 times per week. I think 500 PAs with 25-30 HR, 90-100 RBI is more realistic. And that's if he doesn't miss a lot of time due to injury again.

Chances the reds stick to their history and pursue 2nd tier fa options instead of tier 1 guys?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:43
I'm sensing something bigger. Not sure if they'll be in on the top FAs, but I think they have at least 1 big trade that will shake things up a bit.

Should the rays be in on goldschmidt? Could a package headlined by bauers work?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:45
I'm sure they're interested. Not sure about Bauers. He was really bad in the 2nd half. They have a good farm system, though. They have the resources to get that deal done if the Dbacks are willing to deal him. Lots of other teams would be in on him, though.

But the Indians need OF and is Odubel any better than, say, Naquin at this point?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:51
Odubel has at least proven that he can be good over a full season. He's actually been pretty good for four seasons. As things stand, the Indians have a lot of options (Naquin, Allen, Zimmer, Leonys Martin, Luplow) but none have proven that they can consistently good for 162 games. They need at least one reliable option to pencil in for solid production.

Do you expect Cleveland to trade one of their top three starting pitchers?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:55
Yep. It's time. Trading any of them could get back a player to help in the OF or bullpen and good prospect(s). And they'd still be way better than any team in the AL Central.

5:56
Can the Reds trade for a front line starter without giving up Senzel?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:57
Probably. Hunter Greene and Taylor Trammell are good enough to headline a deal for an impact player.

Syndergaard and deGrom for Trout?
AvatarJason Martinez
5:59
For some reason, that kind of reminds me of that joke where 3 friends are stranded on an island. They find a genie in a bottle who grants them each 1 wish. The first two wish to go home. The 3rd friend wishes for his friends back.
6:01
In other words, Trout wants to play for a winner. He's traded to a team with two of the best pitchers in baseball only to find out that they now play for his old team.

Does Texas commit to W. Calhoun in 2019? He's slipped significantly in Fangraphs' prospects ratings.
AvatarJason Martinez
6:03
They should. Need to figure out if he's the real deal. One of the more impressive MiLB hitter in '16 and '17. Even if the Rangers aren't throwing in the towel, their offseason priorities should be: 1. Pitching 2. Pitching 3. Pitching
6:04
And then CF and catcher. There is room to give Calhoun at least 400+ PAs right now.

6:05
Fried, Inciarte, Wilson and Allard enough to get one of the Indians SPs?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:06
Yep. That should do it. Maybe even more than enough.

Do you think the Padres will win the World Series in our lifetimes?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:09
I really hope so. I've gotten to celebrate two NL championships and an AFC championship. And now my football team is gone. That's why I laugh when fans of teams that have just won a championship within the last few years are complaining about how bad their team is.

6:11
How am I to find a starting ss and 2b?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:13
Plenty of options. No one that will make Pirates fans think they're gonna win the World Series. But between Dozier, Asdrubal, Jose Iglesias, Mercer, Galvis, Hechavarria, Forsythe, they should be able to fill both spots with solid players.
Joe Jackson
6:14
Seems to me that the ChiSox should start adding this year like the Cubs did with Lester.  Do you see them starting down that road?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:15
Yep. That's where they are in the rebuild. Unrealistic to expect them to be a playoff contender, but I think they're open to adding pieces now that will help for the next several seasons.

Who do you think the surprise free agent the Twins could sign would be?
AvatarJason Martinez
6:19
I think they'll be more active on the trade market. I will predict that they'll make a competitive offer for Manny Machado and will be in that race longer than anyone expects before he signs elsewhere.
6:20
Gotta run. Thanks for chatting! Same time and place next week.
