I've heard people talk about trading Renfroe, what would we get back for him? Didn't we trade Rizzo too early?
Jason Martinez
5:29
They traded Rizzo too early. But in all fairness, they replaced him with one of the top 1B prospects in baseball (Alonso) and Andrew Cashner was a legitimate frontline SP prospect. And Petco Park might've been the worst ballpark for a lefty hitter at the time. I'm sure they knew he could be really good. But not as good as he became. In the case of Renfroe, I think they know that he can be a 35+ HR guy, but there are also concerns about whether he can be a guy who doesn't strikeout 175+ times with a sub.300 OBP. If they do trade him, it's because another team believes he can be really good and the return would reflect that.

When will we see some of the signings begin?
Jason Martinez
5:33
Things will pick up a bit soon, but late November is usually when things get interesting. 1st notable signing in 2016 was Kendrys Morales (3 yr, $33MM with TOR) on 10/11.

Ideal outfield target for the bluejays?
Jason Martinez
5:36
Ideal would be JD Martinez. I think they'll end up with Jay Bruce, CarGo or Melky Cabrera.
Chad
5:38
What free agent pitcher/s do you see the Twins getting if any?
Jason Martinez
5:41
I think Lynn will be a top priority and someone on the next tier (Cobb, Chacin, Vargas) would be Plan B.  I think they'll sign a late-inning reliever, but their selling point would be that they would be the closer. So a guy like Morrow, Minor or Nicasio could pass up a chance to be a well-paid setup man for the opportunity to close on a very good team.

Would Clayton Kershaw really opt out next off-season?
Jason Martinez
5:44
Oh yeah. I think he'll do a lot better than the 2 yrs and approximately $70MM that he'll be due. Best pitcher on the planet entering his age-31 season. Should be able to add another 2-3 years on at the same AAV. I'm sure the Dodgers would have a really good chance of signing him to a new deal before free agency started, though.

What starters do you believe are the most likely for the Orioles to sign?
Jason Martinez
5:47
Someone from the 2nd tier of free agents ... Cobb, Chatwood, Chacin, Vargas, Cashner and maybe another bounce-back candidate (Tyson Ross, Clay Buchholz, Derek Holland, Hector Santiago)
Joe Kerr
5:48
How many guys get a 100m deal?
Jason Martinez
5:48
Darvish, Arrieta, JDM and maybe Hosmer, mostly because he's only 28 years old.

5:51
Do I make an impact in the cubs bullpen this year?
Jason Martinez
5:51
100 Ks in 63.1 IP in the Minors last season! I think so. Just need to get the walks down a bit.
The balls
5:52
You think wellington castillo signs on as the primary catcher somewhere, or is he bound for a timeshare?
Jason Martinez
5:54
Don't think he'll end upon a team where he gets 75% of the playing time. But I think he gets 60% of the starts if he signs with Oakland or Arizona. Not too many team teams looking for a starting catcher.

5:55
Should the Brewers pursue Lance Lynn as their #2 starter?
Jason Martinez
5:55
Yes, but I actually think they should go after Darvish or Arrieta with Lynn being the backup plan. This is a very good team that needs a frontline SP to take it to the next level.
Jim
5:55
Danny Duffy to the rangers, Angels, Twins, Rays. Which if these teams have the pieces and most likely to go after duffy?
Jason Martinez
5:57
Twins and Rays probably have the pieces. Angels and Rangers probably don't. But let's see how KC approaches the offseason. I doubt they're going into rebuild mode at this point. If they do, Duffy is top trade chip.

Now that Maxwell is looking at legal trouble, do the A's take a run at catchers, I.e Avila?
Jason Martinez
6:02
That incident probably doesn't help Maxwell's case to be seen as their catcher of the present/future, but I don't know if that was the case before it. Avila could be a target. Maxwell has options remaining. In any case, there has been lots of buzz about Sean Murphy in the Arizona Fall League. Sounds like he could be an elite defensive catcher. He could be a factor later in the season or, more likely, in 2019.
Yeah offseason
6:02
Just read JD Martinez is seeking $200 million.  Really?
Jason Martinez
6:03
Doesn't mean he'll get it, but why not start there? I can see him closer to $125-$150MM, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

How can the Reds acquire Verdugo from the Dodgers? Combine with McCarthy/ Ryu?
Jason Martinez
6:04
I can see that being part of a bigger deal involving Raisel Iglesias.

Gordon to Angels is not all that bad of a fit... Halos have cash, and more intriguing prospects than the industry pretends (Barria comes to mind); Fish need to clear payroll. Why is my favorite baseball site, MLBTR, so quick to dismiss this as a legitimate possibility?
Jason Martinez
6:10
It's not that they don't have the prospects to acquire Gordon. Barria, Thaiss. Jahmai Jones and Jo Adell are really good prospects. Their farm system is slowly improving, but still not very deep. Why trade away 1-2 of their best prospects for a 2B when there are decent options on the FA market and other trade possibilities that wouldn't cost a top prospect?
Mike
6:11
Where will Neil Walker end up? Seems like an under appreciated player.
Jason Martinez
6:11
Angels seem like a good fit.
Marine Layer
6:12
How much would it take for the Mariners to get Christian Walker from the DBacks?
Jason Martinez
6:14
Probably wouldn't cost too much. Dbacks would be doing him a huge favor. Unless they think he can play LF—maybe he's better than Yasmany Tomas—he doesn't really have a spot on this team. He's basically in AAA as insurance for a Paul Goldschmidt injury. And Goldschmidt has been hurt like one time in his career.
Cutch
6:17
Almora and Haap for G. Cole. You says no?
Jason Martinez
6:19
If Cole had 4 years left of team control, I'd say maybe.  Since he only has two, Cubs aren't giving up both of those guys. Maybe not even one. Happ, Schwarber, Almora have huge value. Think frontline SP with at least 3+ years of club control. Michael Fulmer. Chris Archer. Marcus Stroman. Aaron Nola.
WookNH
6:21
Will Alfaro. E starter in Philly...If so, what can we expect?
Jason Martinez
6:22
I'm almost positive that he's out of options so they'd have to keep him on the MLB roster. If that's the case, I think he'll play at least 50% of the time. Expect lots of strikeouts. Low OBP. Lots of HRs, some that will go really, really far. He'll throw a lot of guys out trying to steal, but not really a good overall defensive catcher at this point in his  career.
Yuuu Darvishhh
6:23
How much $ did I cost myself with my performance in the World Series?
Jason Martinez
6:26
It's only 2 starts, but it's true that performing well on the biggest stage can get you a lot more $ in free agency and not playing well will have the opposite effect. Maybe one less year and a few million $ per season. Just a guess, but maybe he gets something like 5 years, $110MM instead of 6 years, $150MM.
