Some one who will stick to the business side of things and let Preller run the baseball operations. Sounds like that might not have been the case with Dee. I just want someone who is willing to bring back the brown and yellow permanently.

Zero chance. The Braves will try to compete in '17 and why not after their 35-27 finish. Even if they weren't, trading their star player to a team in the same division is unlikely and the price would be really, really, really, really high.

Sure, but I don't think they'd get much. Maybe some combination of salary relief and mid-level prospect. I think teams would be overly cautious. After his last strong finish when the Dodgers traded for him, the Twins gave him a ton of $ only to see him revert to being not very good.

Do you see Joey Votto be shopped and ultimately being traded in the offseason?

I don't think so. He has 7 years and $179MM remaining. Even if he's the best hitter in baseball for the next 3 yrs, there's a good chance his decline starts with 3-4 years left in the deal. Reds would have to eat a lot of $. Reds also had a decent finish to the '16 season and I think they're ready to move away from the rebuild.

I think the Dodgers and Giants both do everything in their power to sign one of Melancon, Jansen or Chapman. It will be a ridiculous amount of $ but both teams will be desperate with the current state of their bullpens.

Would Rick Renteria gotten out of the Cubs, as Maddon is doing?

Who knows? As I told a friend yesterday when the Giants were up 5-2, there's a reason Maddon gets paid so much and a reason he's considered one of the best managers in the game. He wasn't going to let his team lose this series. Renteria hasn't had a chance to prove himself yet but he was deserving of one. Good hire.

Realistic expectations for the Angels this offseason?

I don't think their trade chips are good enough to have an effective rebuild. Instead of wasting Mike Trout's prime, maybe Artie Moreno will open up his checkbook again. Risky, but probably no other choice if they want to compete in '17. If that's the case, I think they can outbid teams for Cespedes and one of the top pitchers (Hill, Nova, Hellickson). The injuries to their starters, especially if Richards can't avoid TJ surgery, have set them back.

Biggest free agent signing for the Padres this off season?

I don't think they'll do much. Maybe bring Jake Peavy back to end his career in SD. There are so many of those types of pitchers available. I think they'll end up with 2-3 of them but won't be bidding on the top guys. Same in regards to the bullpen. I like their young nucleus of hitters and I think they do, too.

Braves say no. I like Vogt, but not at that cost. Did you see what Inciarte did in the 2nd half? Not sure if he is that good, but he was one of the biggest reasons they were so good down the stretch.

Dodgers have Justin Turner, Rich Hill, Josh Reddick and Kenley Jansen set for fre agency. Who stays, who goes?

I think Turner and Jansen stay. Biggest needs with no in-house replacements. They still have a lot of starting pitching and outfield depth. Maybe if they trade Puig and Reddick's price is not significant, they can sign him, too.

If they really want to replace Ortiz's production, it makes the most sense to spend big on Encarnacion or Bautista. Carlos Beltran would be a good fit, too. They might even stand pat and give Pablo Sandoval a chance to rebound. They have plenty of offense. Moncada should be ready to take over at 3B, which would make Travis Shaw an option. Or Shaw at 1B and Hanley at DH.

Who do you think the Rockies next manager is.. can we go after some good pitchers??

Bud Black. Another longtime Padres manager by the name of Bochy has done pretty well after catching on with a division rival. Black could do the same. I really like the Rockies and their young pitching. Very talented. Could make a big jump in '17. Might need to add one more veteran starter this offseason.

Does Javier Baez's coming out party (if it continues) mean the end of Jorge Soler's tenure in Chicago?

I would think so. He's better than a 4th OF and his value probably hasn't dipped much. It's not like he was benched because he wasn't playing good. Just no room for him in the starting lineup.

Smyly took a step back in '16. Close to a 5.00 ERA. It could get even uglier pitching in that home ballpark. Phillies would also need a catcher if they traded Rupp. Alfaro isn't ready.

Should the Braves trade Albie in order to upgrade rotation?

If it was for a guy with frontline potential and at least 5 yrs of club control, maybe. And even then, I probably wouldn't. I don't trust pitchers to stay healthy and pitch well on a consistent basis. I also really want to see Swanson-Albies playing together in the majors.
