OFFSEASON! OFFSEASON! OFFSEASON! OFFSEASON! OFFSEASON! OFFSEASON! OFFSEASON! OFFSEASON! OFFSEASON! OFFSEASON! OFFSEASON! OFFSEASON!
Not gonna lie. I really love the offseason.
4:35
And the MLB offseason doesn't mess around. Gardner back to the Yankees. Trevor Rosenthal to the Nats. Fernando Rodney staying with Oakland. Lots of 40-man roster cleanup. Already a few waiver claims. And we're just getting started.

First real Trade to happen is when?
Jason Martinez
4:37
It already happened on October 11th. Marlins traded Kyle Barraclough to the Nationals.
4:38
Next one? Could happen any time. Definitely should have a few by mid-November. Teams have deadline around Nov. 19-20 to add Minor Leaguers to 40-man roster. Trades will be made to clear space.

Is Gardner traded by the end of July?
Jason Martinez
4:41
As long as the Yankees are in the playoff race, Gardner is a perfect fit and has an important role. Even if he's a part-time player, he gives them speed off the bench and a few starts per week.
4:42
I suppose Ellsbury could be that guy, too, but he needs to prove he's healthy. Could be a different story if both players are healthy and filling a similar role in July. Yankees won't count on that, though.

Surprised the A's kept Rodney?
Jason Martinez
4:44
Not really. At $5.25MM, he's still a good value as a 7th-8th inning guy. They have a lot of bullpen depth and Trivino could be the primary setup man, but Rodney gives them a veteran and he's well-liked in the clubhouse. Also makes it easier to trade 1-2 of their relievers this offseason now that Rodney is back.

Just saw the release about Solarte. What are the chances he gets non-tendered and if so could a reunion with SD be likely?
Jason Martinez
4:46
I believe his arbitration projection is close to his club option so it sounds likely that he'll be non-tendered or traded. Padres would be a good fit. Solarte at 3B, Galvis at SS (if re-signed) and Urias at 2B would be fun. Good stop-gap for Tatis.

What does a Jose Iglesias contract look like?
Jason Martinez
4:49
Not a great market for SS. A lot of FA options (Iglesias, Mercer, Galvis, Hechavarria) and not many starting jobs available. I'm guessing he takes a 1-year deal at around $5-7MM and hopes to turn it into a multi-year contract next offseason if he has his best offensive season.
Farhan
4:50
I will leave for Sf right?
Jason Martinez
4:51
Dodgers can't let him go to SF. I don't see that happening. I think they'd let him go just about anywhere else.

4:52
What do you think of next years FA class? Any specific names to watch this year that can raise their stock before hitting the market?
Jason Martinez
4:54
Some big names available. Arenado, Bogaerts, Rendon, Bumgarner, G. Cole, A. Hicks, C. Sale, Khris Davis, Jose Abreu, Goldschmidt. There are a few bounce-back candidates. If Sonny Gray can turn it around, he could get a big payday. Same for Marcell Ozuna.

BVW to mets... People over reacting with his hire or you think it really is the convoluted pulsating web of conspiracy, incompetence, and conflict of interest media is trying to play it out to be ...
Jason Martinez
4:57
I think the owners have every right to choose who they're the most comfortable with. It's their $. And it's a lot of $$$ we're talking about. With that said, I haven't heard a bad thing about Van Wagenen. As long as he's open-minded and surrounds himself with smart baseball people who he'll listen to, he should be fine.
Having deGrom, Syndergaard, Wheeler, Matz in his rotation could also make him look pretty smart.

Who's playing 2b for the Dodgers next season?
Jason Martinez
5:01
Hard to find an upgrade over what Chris Taylor has done the past two seasons. He hasn't played much 2B, but I wonder if he'd be even better if he played just one position. Dodgers might find him most valuable in a utility role, though. In which case, I think they could look to add a free agent. Maybe Asdrubal or Jed Lowrie.

5:01
To much money for Rosenthal? Will that be are only bullpen add?
Jason Martinez
5:03
About what would be expected. Dominant reliever when before injury. Only 28 yrs old. No way he would've been an under the radar bargain signing. His track record is too good. That's why Nats didn't wait.
Jaff
5:04
What team would be a good fit for Whit Merrifield?
Jason Martinez
5:05
Every team is a good fit. He's cheap. He plays just about every position. And he can hit anywhere in the lineup. Gets on base. Steals bases. Will be interesting to see if Royals will trade him.
Danny
5:06
Percentage chance that Goldy gets traded?
Jason Martinez
5:08
Maybe 10%. Dbacks are good enough to compete right now. I doubt they'd consider trading Goldy unless they made a decision to cut payroll and rebuild. I believe their projected payroll is around $140MM. If ownership asks front office to cut by $20MM+, trading Goldy would be the easiest way to do it.

3 SS in our top 10 prospects, who is in? who is out?
Jason Martinez
5:11
I haven't seen any updated prospects lists but I'm assuming Bichette, Kevin Smith and Logan Warmoth. Bichette is 1st in line and I haven't heard any plans to move him off SS in '19. Whether the other 2 stick at SS could depend on Bichette. But they're still a few years away.

I know people say that postseason results don’t sway FA money. But both Machado (attitude) and Grandal (catching ability) looked poor this postseason. Will it effect them at all?
Jason Martinez
5:14
I think teams tend to overreact to a good post-season performance (I bet Joe Kelly is going to get paid!) rather than a bad one. I think Machado and Grandal have probably lost some $, but not too much. Teams will look at 6 years of production.

5:15
will we get a gm b4 gm meetings next week???
Jason Martinez
5:18
This would be smart. However, these aren't specifically meant for trade talk or agent meetings. That's the Winter Meetings in December. Still, things move quickly in the offseason so I'm surprised the openings haven't been filled.
Tony
5:18
Will be Puig be moved?
Jason Martinez
5:20
I think they'll be open to moving him and I think there would be plenty of interest. He is not a big risk because he's only under contract for 1 more year. He could also be motivated since he could a huge payday with a good season. Would be fun if he went to Miami.

5:21
What about Clint Frazier?
Jason Martinez
5:24
As things stand, I think Gardner, Greg Bird and Frazier are competing for 1 starting job. Bird and Frazier are also trade candidates. Both have MiLB options, too, so no pressure for the Yankees. They're happy with the depth.
