Which of Mets young rotation signs a extension?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
deGrom is easily the best bet, in my view. He's slightly older but way off from FA, sort of in that Kluber situation of being a late-emerging pitcher. Wasn't a huge bonus guy. So, he might like some cost certainty and NY might like some savings.

3:18
Dodgers to throw the farm at TB for Archer closer to reality now?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Never say never, but that's just not how this front office has operated. And bear in mind that they not only stockpiled injury-prone starters, they also stockpiled loads of options behind them.

3:19
What is a comp for Boog Powell's ceiling?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Boog Powell
(Probably nothing like the real Boog Powell. I have no idea, honestly.)
jahn cena
3:20
limp bizkit or korn?
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
Korn. You correctly pegged my high school years.
JSix
3:20
With Desmond now in Texas, could a trade involving Andrus and Rockies CarGo happen (with other pieces)? Reyes will probably be suspended for a while.
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
No.
you never answer my questions
3:21
Any news on the Lincecum sweepstakes?
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
That's one way to describe it!
Ben
3:22
Matt Kemp traded somewhere for a bad contract
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
Don't see it happening. Then again, as noted in the aforementioned post on spring trades, Vernon Wells was dealt to the Yankees in March.
Of course, less $ left on his deal then. And SDP still can use Kemp.
Doug
3:23
What's your take on the PECOTA predictions for the Royals the past two years?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
hot take coming ...
3:24
They are projections, which are based upon statistical assessments. They are tweaked from year to year based on results, but even if they were improved to near 100% accuracy in assessing true talent there would be wide variations due to things like luck, sequencing, injury.
3:25
Now, will the Royals legitimately prove that the system is missing something? Maybe! If so, hats off to GMDM. But no reason to hate the computer and the people making best efforts to provide interesting info.
Mike
3:25
We missed you Jeff.
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
Gee, thanks. I missed you too, though I won't lie -- it was generally preferable to be roaming the mountains and cities of Wales. That place was awesome!
Ben
3:26
Twins trade for Desmond at deadline. Put him at ss
Jeffrey Todd
3:26
I doubt it, but I will be rooting for this scenario because it would likely mean that all kinds of mayhem had already happened and would continue happening.
Ben D
3:27
Can Mallex Smith make Braves team this spring?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
No, I don't think he can, barring a miracle spring and injury/trade to clear space.
But yesterday was impressive.
Yaakov
3:28
Will Montero make the Mets roster opening day
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
He wouldn't have anyway, but it didn't help that he was kind of shelled today against the Nats.

3:28
Who's more likely to be a Jay next year, EE or Bautista. My bet is on EE.
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
I'd have said Bautista before, but now definitely looks to be EE. Not sure whether he's terribly likely, either, but at least the FO will be able to say it tried.
Ben D
3:29
I've heard a lot about changes coming to international signings. Maybe even a separate draft. Why couldn't the international players just enter the amateur draft MLB already has?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
I can't even begin to answer that completely, so for now you'll just have to trust me that it's way more complicated than that.
3:31
Remember that all these countries have varying domestic systems and built-up interests surrounding young baseball players. Some have their own thriving pro leagues (Japan, Korea, Taiwan), others are relatively quite disorganized (Europe), others have loads of complicated internal mechanics (DomRep, Venezuela), and others are Cuba. There's a ton to unpack and reconcile there.
3:32
Different ages, legal considerations, practicalities, etc. It's something I hope we'll get into in the podcast and on the site. Will be a topic with CBA talks.
Jesse Pinkman
3:32
Any idea when MLBTR is hiring that part-time writer?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
Not sure of exact timing, but I believe you'll hear soon if you made it into the next round.
3:33
I do hope that you disclosed your meth habits, though, and I can assure you that you're out.
Bobby Evans
3:33
Who is this years Giants unheralded rookie that makes an impact on the roster?
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
I think they've had quite enough, frankly. But Clayton Blackburn has seemed to draw good internal reviews even though he's not a hyped prospect.
