Jeffrey Todd
2:12
Hey! I'll let everyone gather up and start asking questions, then we'll get rolling.
Mat Latos
2:13
Can I win the AL Cy Young or will it be my good buddy Chris Sale?
Jeffrey Todd
2:14
I realize this is tongue in cheek, but ... much as I liked the signing, and think Latos is a great value, we definitely can't put too much stock in the early earned run results. Velo isn't at its peak last year, not much in the strikeout department, and the classic indicators of luck are present (low BABIP/high strand rate/no dingers).
Mike
2:15
Julio Teheran to the orioles for?
Jeffrey Todd
2:15
Having a hard time seeing why the O's would give up value for Teheran.
Andrew
2:15
If the Rangers aren't going to trade for Lucroy, who will? I can't imagine him still being a Brewer after the trade deadline.
Jeffrey Todd
2:16
Lots of time for additional needs to arise. Even if starters are playing well enough, plenty of teams could be in position to like the idea of improving behind the dish. That being said, let's bear in mind that mid-season catcher trades aren't exactly common, so it's kind of a unique situation.
Chandler
2:17
How bad are the Astros missing McCullers right now? Too early to panic about their lack of SP depth?
Jeffrey Todd
2:18
Well, he was going to be limited in innings anyway, so it's not exactly the worst result to have him save those while seeing what you have in the veterans. Of course, you'd rather not be mired in last place and rather not see a young starter dealing with shoulder issues. Silver lining, though? Kind of?
2:19
He threw 157 last year, which was a pretty big jump from year prior. So, maybe not a strict limit, but if they make the postseason and he was in the rotation all year, it'd have been a big ask.
Expand-o-matic
2:20
If you had to hedge 2 cities to bet for the expansion to 32 teams, what are your choices?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
No idea, and haven't thought about it, but Montreal and Havana would be pretty sweet. Probably unlikely.
Wade Miley
2:20
What am as a SP? What we've seen or improvement coming??
Jeffrey Todd
2:21
Improvement over his first 3 outings? Sure. But he's 29. There isn't likely much room to grow as a pitcher. I'd expect more low-4.00 ERA type results by year's end.
Suspended Animation
2:22
Any chance Reyes gets "time served" and isn't suspended beyond the time he has been on Admin Leave?
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
I doubt that very much.
Jacob
2:22
Do you think Chris Heston could come back as a starter or is he destined for the bullpen?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
He wasn't ever a heralded guy to begin with, and he's squeezed between the current staff and a bunch of rising prospects on the 40-man. Doesn't seem terribly likely he'll be more than a swingman, though that doesn't mean he won't hold down a rotation job again for some time at some point.
John
2:23
What's up with Mike Trout?? Is it just April or something to be concerned with?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
Let's stick with the track record for now.
Theo Epstein
2:23
Should I be concerned with my star players (Rizzo, Hayward, Russell, zobrist) slow starts?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
He's more likely pleased with what he's seen everywhere else and licking his chops at the idea of those guys turning things up.

2:24
if draft pick trades were allowed what would the 1st overall pick value be in terms of players already in proball
Jeffrey Todd
2:25
It would depend year to year, because sometimes you can choose Bryce Harper and sometimes you can choose a high school lefty with 1-1. The interesting thing, though, is that the first overall pick not only has the prospect value that comes with it, but also the added draft pool $ that a team could use to add other drafted players. Would be fun to argue over if it were allowed.
otto
2:26
why is Rob Manfred dragging his heels on the Reyes case?-he has had 6 1/2 months to deal with the facts....it will be 30 games because he has no guts
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
I am surprised it has taken so long.
Wallace Wrightwood
2:26
O's would give up value for Markakis though, right?
Jeffrey Todd
2:27
They are getting pretty good work from their current options. And as I've said before, I see Markakis as a roughly neutral value player/contract. Like, ATL could get a return from a team that wants him if it eats cash, or could more or less offload the salary for a marginal prospect.
Dodgers 2016 WS Champs
2:27
Who's some frontline pitchers the dodgers can target on the dateline? And what would they have to give up?
Jeffrey Todd
2:28
As things are shaping up, Jose Fernandez could be the most interesting name to watch this summer. Not sure at all that he'll be dangled, but that would be fun to see.
Jeremy
2:28
Every time Harper is interviewed he mentions how much he loves the city and the fans. Do you think he would be genuinely interested in signing an extension after this season or is this a ploy to get the fans on his side at the negotiating table down the line?
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
I think he could have genuine interest in the right scenario. Like, a $500MM scenario. Either way, I don't see why it has to be a ploy -- maybe he's just stating how he feels, even if it doesn't motivate him to sign a deal all that much.
East bay
2:29
Gray, bassit, graveman, Hahn, and manea.
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
+ Alvarez ... will be fun to see how that plays out

2:30
Should the Blue Jays consider asking Bautista to move to 1B and call up Pompey, removing Smoak/Colabello from the lineup. Or perhaps look outside the org for at least half a good platoon?
Jeffrey Todd
2:30
That means giving up the rights to one or both players and trusting Pompey. They can pursue alternatives in a few months if things aren't working out, or dump one and call up Pompey once they've had more time to evaluate.

Matt Wisler matched Kershaw (maybe even better) today. How good do you think he could be?
Jeffrey Todd
2:31
I don't have a specific opinion, but I've seen him do some nice things. Opinion doesn't change much based on matching Kershaw on one day, though.
Aaron
2:32
Thoughts on what the Rangers do with Mazara when Choo comes back? Does he go down to AAA? Or does Ian Desmond become a $8m bench player?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Great question. I do think it'll be hard to just send him right back down, but maybe his start allows them to bring along Choo/Hamilton slowly to make sure they are 100% and see how it plays out.
