MLBTR Live Chat With Jeff Todd

Jeffrey Todd
2:16
Let's get some questions going and we'll get started shortly.
2:17
BTW, public service announcement: our podcast will be on temporary hiatus while we select and begin working with a new producer. I know how devastating that is to hear since we have so much interesting stuff to discuss this time of year.
Adisen
2:19
Why are the white sox not pulling the trigger on Jay Bruce?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
Well, he may not be available right now for a reasonable price. And he's really not shown signs of returning to the player he was. This year and last he's been right around average in terms of overall production. Defense still lagging. So, not a guy who would necessarily make a huge impact - why overpay and take other options off the table?
Tom
2:20
Who is going to be the next major pitching prospect to get called up? Urias, Glasnow, someone else?
Jeffrey Todd
2:20
More or less impossible to predict, but those look like the first guys up since De Leon has some minor elbow stuff going on and Taillon seems likely to be slower. Maybe Snell gets back up first, though.
Randall
2:21
If everyone is healthy and throwing well, do Mets go to 6 man rotation when Wheeler returns?
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
Would hold some appeal to spread the load and slow the inning tallies on some of those arms, but who knows? It was such a big subject last year, seemed like, and they may not want the intrigue. Could also just use Bartolo as a super swingman who saves starters some frames.
A Phish Called Wanda
2:22
If you're John Coppolella, do you trade Julio Teheran?
Jeffrey Todd
2:22
Yeah but I would wait for something really interesting. Otherwise, I'll let him anchor the staff and hope he breaks out again to boost his value.
Tyler
2:22
What would the Cubs have to give up to land Gray/Reddick from A's?
Jeffrey Todd
2:23
I'm not going to make specific predictions, but those are some big pieces to ask for. You'd be looking at multiple high-quality prospects who are at/near MLB readiness for sure. You can imagine a few of the names that might be targeted.
Trevor
2:23
Is Kyle Barraclough the Marlins closer of the future?
Jeffrey Todd
2:24
He has a really, really spotty track record of control. Reminds me a bit of Henry Rodriguez, who took the 9th for the Nats for a while. Truly electric stuff, but just couldn't consistently harness it.
David
2:24
When will the Astros get rid of Gomez in your opinion?
Jeffrey Todd
2:26
Not sure that's looking like a really viable option. Even if they decide to pack it in at some point this summer, is he going to bring enough back in trade? I guess he's still a likely QO guy regardless, though we're entering territory where it's possible to imagine him not even getting one if he continues at this awful pace.
Brad
2:26
With their respective starts to the 2016 season, what kind of value would you place on Ryan Braun and Jonathan Lucroy?
Jeffrey Todd
2:27
Certainly trending up, especially the latter. Braun pretty much still is what he's always been - sure, the hot streak makes you like the bat even more, but it's still a pretty big contract for a poor defensive corner OF. But I'm pretty bullish on his value and think he'd be a pretty hot commodity -- what other truly proven bats will be out there?
2:28
As for Lucroy, it's starting to look like a perfect storm. Catching position has suffered some serious attrition this year, and his bat is back.
Coppy
2:28
Any chance I can get Gallo or a top 15 guy for Teheran? He has a relative cheap contract for the next few years.
Jeffrey Todd
2:28
Not yet. If he can prove he's back to his 2013-14 level/stuff for an extended stretch, maybe.
JBJ
2:29
Major trade chip for a number 2 starter this year?
Jeffrey Todd
2:29
Don't see them trading away an important piece of the current team and future asset - just creates a new hole.
Fredi G.
2:29
Who is the next one traded off my roster?
Jeffrey Todd
2:30
Beyond the obvious guys with big contracts (Teheran/Freeman/Markakis), it is slim pickings in terms of veterans who might be of interest. So ... meh, let's see who is performing come July.
Jacob
2:30
Should the Dodgers be concerned that the league has started to figure out Maeda?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Not particularly ... he was never going to continue getting the results he was getting, and overall he's still been great. League will probably begin to figure him out, and he'll adjust, and on and on ... and he'll probably settle in as a nice mid-rotation piece at a good price.
Karl Malone
2:32
No PODCAST? Seriously, do you guys need my help every Monday for the Mailbag?
Jeffrey Todd
2:32
Clearly, Mr. Mailman. We also have put the mailbag on hold for a while -- just too little going on for quality questions to come in.

2:33
I see an increase in foul-language posts and personal attacks by some MLBTR commenters. Why are the moderators allowing this kind of stuff to taint your product?
Jeffrey Todd
2:33
We are trying to keep a closer eye on it, but it's tough to catch everything. Maybe we've let the balance shift a little too far in the other direction after running a tight ship for a while.
2:34
If you see something egregious, or a repeat offender, shoot an email through the contact form.
Twinkies
2:34
Why in the world did the Twins give Phil Hughes what amounts to a pay raise? They had him at 3 years, $24 million, then bumped him after a good first year. We all knew he would regress, why didn't Twins management? He's plain awful!
Jeffrey Todd
2:35
That's the risk you take. We all knew he'd regress somewhat, sure, but it's hard to argue with the incredible year he had -- not just solid K numbers but absolutely ridiculous control. They took a shot on a pretty young guy since they had the leverage, and .... yeah, hasn't worked out too great so far.
Hot Takes
2:35
If Latos continues to pitch well, will he be the most coveted free agent starting pitcher?
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
Long way to go for that to be the case. Obviously he's got the track record, and he's young, but there's still going to be concern about how he'll handle a long-term deal and he's doing this with 4.3 K/9. So ... he needs to show some underlying improvement.
Coach Dan
2:36
Why don't the Yankees just DFA Beltran & Headley and bring up Judge & Refsnyder? The can recoup the money by putting fans in the seats . The team is loosing at the gates with those two.
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
Aside from attentive fans, I don't know that I see the people of New York being all that excited by those two names, honestly. There's no real reason to think the young guys would be an upgrade, and you'd be losing the older players by doing that with a lot of season left to play. That kills your depth.
Neither of those guys is a slam dunk, particularly for the present season.
Max
2:38
Any ideas on James McCanns lack of production at the plate? he stuck out 3 times yesterday
