Hi
Steve Adams
3:06
WELL HELLO.
Hello world.
Welcome to this baseball chat.
I am excited to host this baseball chat.
Let us commence this baseball chat.

Do you see the Dodgers letting Jansen walk and signing Chapman and taking the draft pick from the QO?
Steve Adams
3:07
If I'm picking which of the two I find likelier to end up in LA next year, it's Jansen. We still don't fully know how OK the Dodgers are with Chapman's domestic violence allegations, for one thing. Secondly, there's the familiarity factor and the fact that I think Jansen gets slightly less than Chapman.

Jays keep, EE, Jose, Neither or both?
Steve Adams
3:08
I don't think they're keeping either one.

is this a baseball chat?
Steve Adams
3:08
IT SURE IS.
Though feel free to ask me about television, video games, beer or any of the other things I enjoy. I'm the host and I'll answer what I want. Muahaha.

Which young player do you see having the better future in the next, let's say five seasons---Andrew Benintendi or Max Kepler?
Steve Adams

Benintendi

Sale and Quintana are both owed about $37M. Would you rather have the 3 years of Sale or the 4 years of Quintana?
Steve Adams
3:10
I love this question! Mainly because I've spent an inordinate amount of time thinking about it in the past! I don't think Quintana gets enough credit for how good he is, and the extra year holds so much value -- especially since they're pitchers, so assume they're going to be hurt for a good chunk of at least one of those years -- that I lean Quintana. But I actually bet I'm in the minority there. Sale's a better pitcher after all.
Not by a ton, but he's better.

Who do you think is available via trade for the Tigers after Avilas comments today?
Steve Adams
3:12
Can't imagine they'd be averse to moving Upton after he stunk for much of the season, but I doubt there's going to be huge interest there. I can't see Cabrera or Verlander on the block, so I don't feel that Avila's comments change all that much. I'd have assumed they'd be open to moving Anibal, Zimmermann, Pelfrey anyhow. Unless he's willing to move Kinsler, I don't know how much that changes my assessment of the Tigers' in-house trade candidates.

Melancon and Yoenis to SF?
Steve Adams
3:13
If we were making our Free Agent Prediction picks right now I'd probably go Melancon to San Francisco and Cespedes to... I don't know where yet. San Francisco would be in the mix, but there are 6-7 other teams I see as legitimate suitors for him.

How much do you see Jason Castro going for this offseason? Assuming he does not get the Qualifying Offer
Steve Adams
3:15
I think if he gets a QO he takes it, so no QO.

Castro is really interesting to me -- way more than he should be. I'm the high guy on Castro among MLBTR staffers, and I said give that man and his magical framing skills more than $20MM total over three years. Others on the staff are less bullish. Two years in the $15MM range might be a safer call. He'll be an interesting litmus test for how heavily teams are valuing framing these days.

Any Phillies rumors
Steve Adams
3:15
I heard they're rebuilding.
3:16
Really, though -- don't get your hopes up for a crazy active offseason. I can see them adding an arm to stabilize the rotation, but nothing too exciting. Adding a free-agent outfielder, but not one that's too exciting. I don't think 2017 is their "Let's get back into this thing!" target year yet.
3:17
That'll come once JP Crawford is MLB-ready and Jorge Alfaro or Andrew Knapp is ready to step in behind the plate and they have more certainty in their rotation.
Yankee fan

NYA's SS opening day in "2018", Gleybar Torres or Gregarious?
Steve Adams
3:18
There's no reason to assume that Torres will be ready to be a starting shortstop in the Majors come April 2018. He's yet to play above Class-A, he'll only be 21 at that time.
Plus, Didi is really good.
Pirates Fan
3:18
Do you think the Pirates will sing Ivan Nova?
Steve Adams
3:18
I think Nova will sign for about $15-20MM more than the Pirates are comfortable offering. And I think the Pirates would probably go north of $30MM to keep him.

Was Snit the right pick for Braves?
Steve Adams
3:19
Three decades in the org, good rapport with the front office and hugely respected by the players. I don't see why not.

Trade idea out there: Colorado Rockies trading center fielder Charlie Blackmon to the St. Louis Cardinals for first baseman Matt Adams and ex-closer Trevor Rosenthal. Your thoughts? Does that seem likely?
Steve Adams
3:20
I saw that and my head spun. That's underselling Blackmon so strongly that I can't even put it into words properly. An expensive/injured closer coming off a career-worst season and a decent platoon 1B, both of whom are already into their arb years? Bridich wouldn't just hang up his phone, he'd throw it out the window and change his number.

Jordan Zimmerman to the Braves? Would help DET clear payroll, which Avila said they're going to do
Steve Adams
3:22
How much of the tab is Detroit picking up? Because Zimmermann's season was pretty lousy after his hot start (which was hugely BABIP fueled as I recall -- maybe strand rate. Maybe both. But it wasn't looking sustainable)

Plus a huge factor for Zimmermann signing in Detroit was that he's a Midwest guy who wanted to be close to home. He got full no-trade rights through 2018, so it's tough for me to see that one playing out.

What will it take for the Mariners to pull off a Zack cozart trade?
