Minor league lefty Luiz Gohara was supposedly the centerpiece of that deal for the Reds (though there was another prospect from CInci and one from Seattle in the deal as well):

I'd say something along those same lines, though his value is down a bit now since it's a one-year rental instead of one-plus, and Cozart wound up hurt to finish out the season.

What is holding me (and my critics) back from being considered "elite"?
Steve Adams
3:26
He's already really good. Being a first baseman without a 30-homer season under his belt probably downs his value in the eyes of some. I think he just needs to find more consistency at the plate, personally. I haven't dived headfirst into his numbers or anything, but I know he was stopped hitting the ball to left field as often (a lot less often) in the second half of this season, which diminished his production.

Do you think we can see any combination of Newcomb/Allard/Sims/Jenkings/Teheran/Folty at the end of next season?
Steve Adams
3:28
Allard has had back problems, hasn't pitched above A ball and only threw like 60 innings this season. Teheran/Folty/Newcomb, sure, that seems plausible. They're going to add two SPs this winter, or at least try too, so I wouldn't bank on an entire rotation of guys currently in the org. (Generally speaking, it's almost always foolhardy to expect a collection of 5-7 pitchers to remain healthy over the course of a full season, as Sandy Alderson and Terry Collins will explain to you in detail.)
3:29
For the record: That wasn't calling Sandy/TC fools for the Mets' pitching injuries. The organization was really well positioned to handle those losses thanks to the depth it had.

Could I command 100 million this early into my service time in exchange for free agency years?
Steve Adams
3:30
Haven't looked at this closely or anything but my inclination is yes.
Rick Hahn
3:30
Which way should I go this offseason? One more shot with spending hike and then rebuild or........??????
Steve Adams
3:31
Go for it this winter and start selling in July if it bombs. No reason not to try once more to take advantage of a Sale/Quintana/Abreu/Rodon/Eaton core with solid short-term pieces like Frazier, Melky, Robertson, etc. surrounding them.
Avisail García
3:31
Did the White Sox finally got my hints about not being able to produce at MLB level?
Steve Adams
3:31
If he's not non-tendered or dumped elsewhere this winter, I don't know what they're doing.
Hector Olivera
3:31
Will someone give me a Major league deal, or do I have to settle for an invite?
Steve Adams
3:31
I don't even know if anyone's going to give you a Spring Training invite, man.

Best case scenario for Ryan Howard?
Steve Adams
3:32
Sign for a few million bucks to be a bench bat/platoon DH in the American League

Chance Teheran is dealt this winter?
Steve Adams
3:32
Atlanta's adding pitching help, not subtracting it.

Mike Hazen seem like a great choice for the Diamondbacks GM. Prediction on his manager?
Steve Adams
3:32
Torey Lovullo?
Kyle Schwarber's mom
3:33
Is my Kyle the new Cub super sub now that Javy looks like he will play second and Ben has LF covered?
Steve Adams
3:33
No one on the Cubs roster seems to have a set position except for Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell. I'm sure he'll move around just like everyone else.

Do Yankees sign any free agents
Steve Adams
3:34
I cannot fathom them sitting out of free agency again this winter. My Yankees Offseason Outlook will run tonight or tomorrow.

So the Tigers have three pitchers at or close to a 5 era and they need to rebuild. do Sanchez or Pelfrey have any trade value as they both have only one year left albeit at high rates and is there any way Zimmerman gets traded considering he is due 25 million the final two years of his deal.
Steve Adams
3:36
They don't really need to rebuild, they just want to get younger and trim some payroll, which they'll be hard-pressed to do anyway given the contracts they have. Someone might roll the dice on Anibal as a rebound guy, but neither of them has any real trade value. And, as I said earlier, Zimmermann has a full no-trade clause in his deal through 2018 and was excited to sign in the Midwest, near his Wisconsin roots. I don't think he's much of a trade candidate.

3:36
For teams that have a President of Baseball Ops and GM how much power does the GM have in comparison to those without a President? Do President's negotiate with other GMs/Agents on trades and Free agent deals or does the GM maintain those duties simply with presidential oversight?
Steve Adams
3:38
It varies from team to team, so there's no great answer to that question. In some instances, even clubs with just a GM split up some of those duties. Terry Ryan mentioned a few years back that he did most of the trade talks whereas Rob Antony handled a large portion of the legwork on free-agent and arbitration talks. Obviously, the president (or in that example, the GM/Terry Ryan) has final say over things, but the division of labor isn't set in stone.

While I'm dreaming of a Cespedes/Chapmon offseason for the Giants, it's more likely to be a Melancon and a 5th OF, right?
Steve Adams
3:39
Melancon more likely than Chapman I'd say, yeah. Doesn't have to be Cespedes or a bench guy. There are other outfield options out there... Fowler, Desmond, Saunders, etc.

ANY chance the TWINS name a big name gm with FALVEY TWINS need to be agressive.I wonder how twins would be with an owner who likes to spend?
Steve Adams
3:40
The Twins signed Joe Mauer to a $184MM extension and spent a combined $186MM on free agent pitchers over the past four seasons (Pelfrey, Hughes, Nolasco, Ervin). It's not that they don't spend, it's that the assets on which they've spent haven't yielded positive results.

3:41
On average, about 20 min into a chat, how many questions do you have in the inbox?
Steve Adams
3:41
Software doesn't keep a running tally, but a few hundred for sure. Depending on the time of year there'll be between 400 and a few thousand people in these things. Tough to get to all the questions obviously
Michael
3:42
Type of contract Trumbo is looking for?
Steve Adams
3:43
A larger one than he'll get, though that applies to any free agent.

Honestly, he's a one-trick pony (power), and the one trick he's got was a lot more prevalent this winter. They'll probably try for something nutty like five or more years, but I can't see him going past four years and around $60MM, and I think there's a chance he comes in south of both those numbers.
It'll depend, to some extent, if teams think he can play a passable first base. That'd go a long way towards helping his earning power.

3:43
What will the Rays do at the catcher position? They need to do something.
Steve Adams
3:44
They definitely need an upgrade, but they're not going to spend heavily. They'll probably continue trying to find underappreciated pitch framers with some upside in their bats. How's Jason Castro sound?
ATX Halo
3:44
Do Halos play it conservative again this off season or make a couple of key FA signings with the extra salary?
