As we get closer to an exam, it may be that more questions emerge.  Thanks to those that participated!
8:58
Well, we didn't have much of an audience with this.  But that's ok.  Later in the week, I'll reach out and see if anyone has more suggestions about ways that we can communicate
8:54
Today was the first day that one of my students told me that an immediate member of their family was COVID-19 positive.. so that gave me plenty of perspective.
8:53
I'm just a big believer in perspective.  Right now.. we have to do what we can to finish.  We have to be responsible, but let's just be perfectly honest... school isn't the main thing on people's minds.  Everyone of us still has requirements to complete the course or complete the semester... but our priorities should be with our families and health.
I don't think any of us really know what is "enough" or "right"
8:51
That's the thing that I talk the most about to other professors
8:50
It's really hard to know if I am doing "enough"..

Thank you for everything you are doing for us! It is so nice to not have to stress over this class along with everything else. Thank you!!

My advice to JP about the n=8 histogram can be found inthe middle paragraph on page 35 of the CSM.
JP
8:22
oh ok thats a little more clear thank you

so, the answer is D... we just wouldn't do the histogram.  There is no need to summarize a small data set... it's already summarized as it sits.
Histograms aren't created for small data sets like that.  At one point in the CSM it is roughly stated that single digit sample sizes don't lead to useful histograms..
The data can easily ALL be seen and understood.
8:16
The point of histograms is to SUMMARIZE the data with a picture.. .when the sample size is small, there is no need to create a summary.
8:15
Question 11 on the reading quiz was about a histogram in the case that n=8
8:14
Sure.. let me call it up on my screen.. just a second
JP
8:13
can we go over question 11 from the quiz. I looked at the key but just kind of wanted a better explanation

Sure thing... I haven't had any trouble getting in there today.. but yesterday, I was having the same major issues most of you were.  I'm not hung up on firm deadlines due to technology glitches... even if you continue to have problems, I'll create an opportunity for you to finish at some point.
JP
8:10
Ok well I have tried again today and am still experiencing issues but I will keep trying
AvatarGreg Miller
This is a time for kindness... and patience...
8:07
Nicki, thanks for the kind words... I know ALL of you have so many different requirements right now.  I am really focused on simplicity.  We have work to do, but I don't want to make requirements complicated.

Thank you for all your help!!!
AvatarGreg Miller
I can see the exact times everyone attempts to login, so I know who has been in there and who has not.
But for sure, if we continue to have small outages, I'll make adjustments to deadlines.  Flexibility is SUPER key right now
8:05
JP... MyStatLab has fixed their MAJOR issue from Sunday, but they have let us know that some users will still experience outages... I'm going to take a look at the individual activity levels tomorrow on a student by student basis

Hey Dr. Miller. Hope you had a good day and all is well with your family. I am still not able to acess the homeowrk
AvatarGreg Miller
In fact, I am working on a set of review questions just for Case 2A now and we have have a HW assignment by email focused on those review questions
8:02
Hey Victoria.. right now, I think the next exam is probably roughly two weeks away.  I'm not a fan of proctoring software, so my guess is that the exam will be open to your materials, but still timed.  And yes, I am going to post review questions
Victoria
8:01
Hi Dr. Miller, when will the next exam be? And will you post review questions on D2L for it like you did for the previous two exams?
AvatarGreg Miller

Emily ask this question early in the day and I am posting it now..  I think there may be some opportunity for extra HW points during April, but generally small assignments like this tend to only increase grades by one or two overall points... so it can help you if you are on the "border"... we'll see about this in mid-April
Emily
7:59
Is there a way we can bring up our grade like extra credit?
AvatarGreg Miller
Feel free to submit any questions you have... this room will stay open tonight until 9 PM
