IT was good but don't think it's on anymore. anyway I've been trying to find the test statistic for the last 30 minutes but I'm too enthralled by this convo!  I'm going to go finish the roofing case so I can eat some dinner! Thanks for your help and the interesting chat!

Wow.. I don't think I've heard of that show.. Interesting
Kasey
7:55
There used to be a show called the Bull that involved probabilities and the law.  The main character used body language and statistics to determine how potential juries would vote or find.  There are real jury consultants that do this.
AvatarGreg Miller
7:55
Lawyers like 0's and 1's
...and that's because we use probabilities to describe things.
"Statistics is never having to say you are absolutely certain"
7:54
Right.. plus one subject matter joke that statisticians say is
Kasey
7:53
Yes because they think to hell with probability! It doesn't matter because I will argue better than the other side! lol
AvatarGreg Miller
It was just totally random.. just fell into some research with SFA Nursing and the additional clients spawned from there.
7:53
So, I developed a lot of network connections with nursing academic units around the state and health care workers that are associated with nursing and hospitals
No.. I just got brought on to do a lot of nursing oriented studies thru SFA's Nursing school
7:52
They don't like when you state their are small chances of things.. they like people talking in certainties.
Kasey
7:51
You said you do more consultations for medical offices.  Is this usually for legal reasons?
AvatarGreg Miller
7:51
To be 100% honest.. most lawyers are a little difficult to work with.. they don't like probability.
Kasey
7:50
gotcha, very interesting.
AvatarGreg Miller
it was just a tactic.. and everyone knew that was the direction the county would go.. it bought them time.
7:50
But, it didn't work well for them, because the data was pretty damning.. it wasn't like I was the only one that could see the structure of the data..
7:49
Right.. they knew how i "wrote", "spoke", "argued" and so they thought they had a better chance to win, if a new analyst was brought on
Kasey
and wanted someone to calculate others in their favor.
7:49
aka they didn't like your findings. lol
AvatarGreg Miller
7:49
But, of course... it didn't matter.. they just wanted me out b/c they knew I had seen the hiring data for the entire county over a two year period/
The "other side" just wanted a fresh statistician!! Hahaha
Oh, they used the data
7:48
The lawyers wanted a "Fresh" look after we uncovered the poor practices in the other office.
Kasey
7:48
They didn't use your data in the second suit?
AvatarGreg Miller
7:47
Yes, but I wasn't a part of the second suit
Kasey
7:47
And then a completely new suit had to be filed?
AvatarGreg Miller
So in the process of resolving one suit.. the data led to another where the county was found guilty the second time around!
7:46
the office that was originally sued for discrimination was cleared... but another office that wasn't part of the original suit was found to have committed biased hiring practices
Kasey
7:46
That's how it usually is both parties lose and none are happy with the result. lol
AvatarGreg Miller
7:45
It didn't turn out anything like anyone expected... LOL...
Kasey
7:45
That is interesting.  I would love to hear how that turned out.
AvatarGreg Miller
7:43
It was a class action suit about racial discrimination regarding hiring garbage collectors that ride on the back of garbage trucks.. I kid you not...
Kasey
7:43
Interesting.  That sounds like it involves law and social issues!
AvatarGreg Miller
Had a paralegal bring over literally BOXES of data files that were just stacked up my office half way to the ceiling...
7:42
I'll tell  you about a racial discrimination lawsuit I worked on for Lufkin & Angelina County at some point when time is more free.. it was wild.
